'Are you sure?' Noah whispered, he was as pale as a piece of paper, he was shaking, too.
'I...' Susan didn't know how to answer. Like, there wasn't such a way to be sure about that in the situation they were, there weren't many echographs in the zombie apocalypse, but she felt something 'I'm not, Noah, we don't have a scanner or anything, I don't even have one of those stupid carton tests! Oh my, we're fucked up, aren't we?'
'I'd say so, Sue...a baby...now...it's sick' His voice was getting weak, like he was almost crying.
'If I said I'm sorry, would it change anything?'
'Don't be...a baby must be something joyful, and we'll make it work. It'll be our kid, goddamit! I bet he's gonna be really goodlooking' he attemped to make her laugh, and it worked.
'I love you'
'I know' he smiled.
'You asshole' she punched him in the arm playfully, then, she heard the noise of Otis' van parking outside the farm and her heart almost stopped 'It's Otis...' she was voiceless.
Otis was one of Hershel's daughter's husband and he and Susan were pretty close. He had been almost as a dad replacement for her. He had left with one of the newcomers to get some stuff Rick's child (who had been shot) needed to live. Susan was really worried he was... you know.
'Hey, hey...' he grabbed her chin softly and lifted it up, so she looked him in the eyes 'I'm sure everything's okay...I mean, he left with that huge guy, Shane I think, and Otis is tough as fuck' he smiled, trying to cheer her up 'I'm sure they're back with everything that Carl needs!' He got up and offered her his hand, so she had a little help to stand up, he wanted to be gentle, his girlfriend might be pregnant and he didn't want her to make big efforts or to be worried.
'He didn't make it' Shane said. He was all covered in blood and the medical stuff was in his hand. He didn't even seemed sad about it. Daryl gazed at him, he didn't like that guy.
Patricia (Otis' wife) couldn't speak, she just started to cry violently, like if it was her job to cry and in some way, it was now. Maggie and Beth hugged her, don't knowing what to say.
Susan came running, tears already going down her round red cheeks, and when she saw her whole new family crying, she felt how her tiny legs couldn't work. She fell. She fell on the mud, she wanted everyone to leave her there.
Noah almost screamed in the baby's name, but he knew it would be a big time fuck up with her dad around there. So he just limited to go pick her up, even though Daryl had already took her in his arms, as if she was a little child.
She fell asleep, and woke up in her bed at the middle of the night, Noah snorting by her side. She turned around so she could face him and smiled like a fool when she saw him sleeping. She didn't want to sleep anymore, and felt like walking a little bit, maybe drinking a glass of water or something? The fact was she needed to clear her head, so she got up, trying to make no sound.
She was already drinking her fifth glass of water, when she heard steps on the porche.
'Who is it?' she asked when someone knocked on the door.
'Come out'
'Yes, dad, in a minute' she finished off her drink, grabbed her bow and carefully opened the front door.
'What is it?' she whispered.
'Are you okay?' he asked.
'Uhm...no?'
'I know what would make you feel better' he said, smiling, almost laughing, it was weird to see her dad acting so joyfully.
'What?' she couldn't help smiling.
He lifted up an old crappy notebook, a notebook she recognised right away.
It's good to be back! Do you want me to go on? Tell me what you think!
