Title: Unexpected
author: Cindy Ryan
pairing: Greg/Molly

Day two of their long weekend dawned bright and sunny. Plus the temperatures promised to be perfect. Perfect for sailing and a picnic. Yesterday had been wonderful with the garden walk and a nice meal in the dining room of the bed and breakfast. After dinner last night Greg had asked the inn keeper about who to contact. The inn keeper had gone a step above and made the arrangements for them. Now at ten on a saturday morning Molly stood on a dock on the right side of the lovely marina.

Molly smiled as she watched Greg excitedly talk to the boat captain. She'd never known he had an interest in sailing. But then most boys growing up in England had been sailing at some point or fishing. Glancing down at the brown picnic basket in her right hand Molly could still smell the freshly baked bread the sandwiches were made on. The food so far at the bed and breakfast had been wonderful and Molly couldn't wait to get back home and thank Mrs. Hudson for the recommendation. The B&B was definitely everything the landlady had promised it would be.

"We're all set, Molly-girl."Greg stated as he joined Molly and took the basket from her. "Ready?"

"Can't wait."Molly replied with a smile."Going to be a lovely day."

Greg kissed Molly briefly. "Yes it is."

An hour later the boat dropped Molly and Greg at a beach south of town. The boat captain had recommended to Greg that they go inland for a perfect picnic spot. Greg took Molly's left hand in his .

"Come on, we're not staying here."Greg stated with a smile.

"We're not?"Molly inquired with a puzzled look.

Greg squeezed Molly's hand and her fingers entwined with his. "Trust me."

Molly smiled. "Always."

Ten minutes later Greg easily found the spot the captain had recommended. They had followed a path that lined an inlet into a small grove of trees. The inlet emptied into a small lagoon that was ringed by a few flowering plants. The cold wind that filtered in was enough to remind Greg that they were still in England and not somewhere tropical.

"Oh Greg, this is beautiful."Molly exclaimed quietly.

"Our boat captain said it was the perfect spot for a picnic."Lestrade commented as Molly pulled away from him and walked to the water's edge.

"He was right."Molly replied as she crouched down to dip her right hand into the water.

Greg spread the green and blue plaid blanket on the ground and began setting up the picnic. He smiled as he watched Molly explore the area. It warmed his heart to see Molly happy and having fun. This trip was doing wonders to help heal Molly's emotional wounds from the kidnapping. Greg knew it was only a start but it was a very positive start.

"You hungry or want to wait a bit?"Lestrade asked.

Molly returned to Greg and sat down on the blanket. "Starved."

The contents of the basket which consisted of a variety of sandwiches, fruit salad and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. There was also a bottle of white wine and two glasses. The meal passed with content small talk. About the village, the people they had met and the sight-seeing.

An hour later Molly lay snuggled next to Greg her head resting on his chest as his arms encircled her waist. This felt like a dream or a fairytale. Molly had to keep reminding herself that it was real; that she'd finally found her prince.

Greg had been so kind and attentive to her after the kidnapping. Molly knew that without Greg in her life her recovery would've been much slower. They say love heals and Molly believed that was true. This trip had also aided her recovery and been a test. A test to see if she and Greg could spend time together and leave the police work and dead bodies behind. Molly had been amazed to realize they could. There had been no mention of Sherlock either.

"What are you thinking about?"Greg asked softly.

Molly turned slightly so she could see Greg's face and smiled. "Just thinking how lucky we are. Even if this doesn't last..."

"What makes you think it won't last, Molly-girl?"Greg inquired huskily.

"I..."Molly trailed off suddenly flustered and tounge-tied.

Greg straightened and sat up so he was facing Molly. He took her hands in his.

"I know we're just at the beginning,"Greg began softly. "But I like what we have here and I wouldn't mind seeing it continue. I love you, Molly."

Molly felt tears begin and she didn't stop them. She smiled and squeezed Greg's right hand

"I love you too."Molly replied. "You're stuck with me Greg Lestrade for as long as you'll have me."

Greg leaned forward to kiss Molly. "That sounds like a wonderful plan."
