Chapter 2: The Living
After Kid walked Akira and I 'home' I dropped my stuff next to the door and went to my room. Akira went to have dinner with my uncle. I skipped dinner altogether. I guess Akira was worried because she came by my room a couple of times.
When I was alone in my room I just sat there and thought about the events of today. What was with this place? Am I supposed to feel safe here? I'm pretty sure this isn't a place most people would want to be. Akira is so calm around my uncle. I just can't help but feel scared around him. I'm so out of place in this town.
"Hey!" Akira stood outside my door, dressed and ready to go. And also happy as hell, "Good morning!"
"Sure. Good morning." I stood in the doorway slumped over, still in my pjs.
"Don't be such a downer! Get ready! I heard Stein say that Lord Death said that Kid was coming to walk us to school! Well, more like walk you to school."
"Fine." I got dressed in my normal outfit, brushed my tangled white hair, grabbed my bag, and stood in front of Akira when I was done. "Ready."
"Good! Kid's here! He's waiting for you!" Akira can sometimes be totally clueless. She just couldn't see that I don't like Kid. He kind of just annoys me. He clings to me and just stares at me all day. It kind of creeps me out.
"Ugh! I don't want to see him! I don't know what his deal is but he sees me as a goddess or something!"
"Aw! He really likes you! Come on! I think it's cute!" I failed. I tried to explain to her why I don't want to hang around him, but I failed.
We walked downstairs and we saw Kid sitting on Uncle Stein's couch. As I turned into the room Kid looked up at me, with a brightened face. "Hi," I mumbled.
"Oh hello. Speak up Akane," Stein calmly said. I just shrugged my shoulders. I looked over to where Kid was supposed to be sitting, he wasn't there. I looked around the room and he wasn't anywhere.
I suddenly felt a pair of arms snake around my waist. I quickly turned around and punched whoever it was, on instinct of course. It was Kid, he is now lying on the floor with a bloody nose. "Sorry," I blushed. Stein and Akira were laughing. "Let's just go to school," I stormed out of the house.
Akira had to drag Kid out of the house. It took him until we were halfway to school to wake up. "Welcome back to the land of the living," I sarcasticlly said.
"Why thank you?" Kid said, unsure of his response. I laughed at him.
"It was a joke. So. . .to class?" I suggested. Akira and Kid nodded.
We walked down the hall and passed by Maka and Soul. "Hey Maka, Soul," Kid nodded.
"What's up Kid? And Akira was it?" Soul motioned towards us. Akira nodded and tried to hide her blushing face, but by the smile on Soul's face anybody could tell he saw. I smirked at his ability to notice Akira, usually it's me who get's noticed.
We all walked to class together, every few steps Soul would glance at Akira and vice versa. Kid on the other would not quit starring at me. I saw him out if the corner of my eye several times, I turned my back to him just to stop the paranoid feeling I was getting from him.
When we got to class Uncle Stein was already waiting for us. Some strange sort of animal was lying on his desk shaking of fear. "Welcome to your daily dissection," was the last thing we heard.
