After drying Percy, gently placing him on a bed, Luke lightly sat on the mattress, gently brushing Percy's hair away from his face.
He sighs.
Son of Poseidon, huh?
Well, Luke thinks. At least we know.
Technically, the others don't know yet.
So at least Luke knows.
A part of him feels annoyed, though. His two companions are children of the Big Three, with special powers and devastatingly good looks, and he's just a normal child of Hermes.
Jack of all trades. Master of none.
He feels left out.
Jealous, even.
Jealous that Thalia and Percy would bond over their powers, and he wouldn't be as important to them anymore.
He wouldn't be a part of them anymore.
What did he have in common with Thalia or with Percy? He wasn't a son of the Big Three, he didn't have powers, he didn't have the bond that those two were sure to have.
When they got into fights, they could just zap the monsters away with their powers... And Luke? He'd be useful for stealing food and clothes when needed. That's it.
It makes him feel so helpless. He wouldn't be able to protect Percy anymore. Hell, Percy would probably end up protecting him. He wouldn't be Percy's big brother anymore.
He can't help but feel angry at the god of the seas. How could he let Percy go through everything he's been through?
At least Luke was given a weapon.
How could he leave Percy so defenseless? Didn't he care?
Of course not, he bitterly thought. Most of them don't.
At least... At least Percy had him and Thalia, he thought.
They're family.
Poseidon's not family. He's just the supplier of a half of Percy's DNA. Family takes care of each other. Family supports and loves each other.
Family doesn't let you face everything alone.
He won't let Percy face his parentage alone.
He won't let Percy face it at all, really. He won't let Percy grow up with a bitter hatred for the gods, for his father.
But who the hell said Poseidon deserved a place in Percy's life, to be called his Father?
Maybe one day, Luke will tell him. But for now, he's dead tired, and he collapses onto the bed beside Percy.
