Chapter 3

Previously:

"Guess what happened? I just got a phone call from your mother!" Dianne spat, turning towards me. Oh crap! What had my mother told her?

"She told me you are only 17 years old!" Oh crap! Oh crap! Oh crap! She knows how old I am! Oh crap!

"Uh mom. I can explain. It's not what you think it is." Ezra defended.

Dianne glared at us for a moment then spoke once a again. "Get in!" She gestured towards the door. "We need to talk!"

Ezra and I nervously dawdled into the house, not prepared for what the evening would bring us.

Aria's POV

The grandfather clock that hung on the wall opposite me was ticking at an agonizingly slow pace. I shifted uncomfortably on the leather couch underneath me, causing a loud squeak to escape from the soft material. Dianne glared at me from her position on the teak rocking chair. Ezra's glance was focused on his beat up Converse shoes. Wesley was ordered to go to his room and stay there until Dianne was done talking, or should I say yelling, at us.

Since no one was talking, I took this as an opportunity to scan the house. Flowers were placed in almost every corner of the vast room, it's pleasant fragrance wafting into my nose. There were two flights or stairs on either side of the living room, leading to the second floor and the terrace. All in all, this house was immaculate.

When was Dianne going to speak? I asked myself nervously in my head. It was bad enough that this was the way she found out I was a minor, but now she wasn't even going to tell me what she thought about the situation!

Ezra coughed suddenly, causing my eyes to land on him. I shot him a desperate look that said "what are we supposed to be doing now?" Ezra shrugged his shoulders in response. We were both lost for suggestions.

My eyes caught Wesley spying on us from the doorway seconds before he spoke up, breaking the beyond awkward silence. "Can you guys please say something, I'm really looking for some drama her." He openly confessed.

"Go to your room Wesley!" Dianne yelled at the top of her lungs, taking the three of us by surprise. Wesley nodded meekly and scurried back upstairs. Once he was gone, Dianne zeroed her eyes onto Ezra.

"You have 5 minutes. Explain this situation or else I would kick Aria out." Dianne demanded and Ezra nodded.

His eyes met mine before he started to recite our story. "We met before I knew Aria was my student. I kissed her and the next day I realized I was her teacher. I immediately broke up with her and tried to find a job in New York. But then I realized that running away was not going to solve anything so I returned to Rosewood. I was then offered a job at Hollis, which meant that Aria and I could finally be together. I love Aria."

Ezra had left out the part about how we were together when he was teaching, how difficult it was to convince my parents that what we had was real and how I was the reason he lost his job at Hollis.

"You love Aria? Are you serious? That is your reason for dating your student? Because you are in love with her?" Dianne spat. She wasn't convinced that our love was real. She wasn't convinced the Ezra was madly and deeply in love with me. She did not believe a word Ezra had told her.

"Yes, I am in love with her." Ezra shot back confidently. He then scooted towards me and intertwined his hands in mine. I smiled up at him, grateful that he was not ashamed of our love story.

"This is ridiculous!" Diane continued, glaring at our intertwined hands. You can't be in love with her! She is 17 for god's sake!"

"Age doesn't matter in our relationship!" Ezra replied. "Look, I don't care if you don't believe our story. I am in love with Aria. She means the world to me. And I am not leaving her because of your opinion." Ezra finished boldly.

I stared into Dianne's eyes, trying to figure out her thoughts. Was she still mad at us? Was she still not convinced that our love was real? Luckily, my question did not have to go unanswered for long since Dianne finally spoke up.

"Well I can't do anything legally to stop you from being together, so you are allowed to spend Christmas in this house." Dianne turned to me and said. "However, you mom just called me and told me to make sure you were in different rooms for the night."

"What?" I asked confused. "Why would she do that?" I wondered out loud. When to talked to my mom yesterday on the phone, she had said nothing about spending the night in different rooms.

"Because your only 17," Dianne replied, before heading upstairs. Once she was gone, I grabbed my phone and quickly punched in Ella's number. Thankfully, she picked up on the first ring.

"Hello," she greeted.

"Why did you tell Dianne to make sure Ezra and I spent the night in different rooms?" I demanded. Why would my mom do this? Did she actually think that Ezra and I would do something with his mom right down the hall?

"Your 17 Aria! You shouldn't be sleeping in the same room as your boyfriend." She replied.

"Excuse me? Yes, I'm 17, but you always said I was way more mature than my age. And Ezra and I have been together for two years!" I yelled. I was really getting frustrated with Ella. I know she was just doing her job as a mother, but why couldn't she just trust me?

"Don't talk to me like that!" She snapped back at me. And before I knew it, I heard a click on the other end, meaning that Ella had just hung up on me.

I sighed. Why does this have to be so complicated?

"It's okay babe." I heard Ezra say. "It's just for a couple of nights."

"I know, I just get so frustrated when we have to explain our relationship to everyone."

Ezra wrapped his arms around me. "Let's just ignore everyone else, okay?" I nodded and planted my lips on Ezra's.

Once I had retreated to the guest room, I opened my suitcase and started unpacking the contents buried inside. It had been a long day but thanks to the long nap I took in the car, I was able to keep my eyes open. I decided to change out of my uncomfortable clothes and into my pajamas. It was already 10 in the night and I figured Dianne would not be serving us dinner since she hadn't left her room for hours.

To be honest, I wasn't really looking forward to my stay at Ezra's house. I knew for a fact that his mother absolutely hated me and his brother was a creepy pervert. Ezra and I weren't even allowed to sleep together in this house! I also had this feeling that my mom was very mad at me for yelling at her. I couldn't help it. I was just extremely angry at her.

Christmas was the time that I had dedicated solely to Ezra. I hadn't spent a lot of time with him because I busy with Exams and College application essays. And now that the holidays had finally arrived, his mom was determined to not let us spend time together.

"This vacation is going to suck!" I told myself before laying down on my bed and dimming the lights.
