I really liked writing this chapter. It is also the longest chapter I have written for this story! (over 2 thousand words!)
Disclaimer: I do not own the Vampire Diaries or any of the quotes or characters.
Here is Part 2 for the finale:
The Mikealson's have had a great past two and a half weeks, but Klaus knew that it was too good to last. Something terrible was surely going to happen soon.
Klaus really wanted to be moving onto a new city, but he wasn't sure if he should bring the Salvatore along or not. Stefan was good company and he made his sister happy, but Klaus wasn't sure if Stefan would follow his rules.
Klaus supposed that he could always compel Stefan, but then Rebekah might get mad.
Klaus was sitting at the bar alone. Stefan was out dancing with Rebekah. Klaus wasn't in a good mood to find a random dance partner. He wanted to go on a mass murder spree, however that would draw Mikael to Chicago and that wasn't something Klaus wanted.
Klaus ordered another drink when he picked up a small commotion coming from Gloria's office. He thought nothing of it.
Probably just the witch knocking over some books, Klaus thought.
He didn't want to be out at all tonight, but Stefan and Rebekah convinced him to join them. Only to have the couple abandon him at the bar.
Klaus realized that Gloria had been on her brake for longer than usual. He got up from his seat at the bar
None of the band members seemed to be concerned, but Klaus knew that if Gloria died, or even became hurt, his boundary spell would fall and Mikael would capture him. Klaus would not let that happen. He would survive.
Klaus looked around for Rebekah and Stefan. Klaus was still not sure if he would allow the Salvatore to accompany them when they moved to another town.
Klaus spotted the two huddled in a corner of the room.
He ignored them and decided that he would find a drink a little stronger than alcohol.
He found the perfect victim when he felt something wash over him. Klaus froze. He had a bad feeling. Klaus recognized the magic that spread throughout his body.
Gloria had told him that he would be aware when the boundary spell fell. Was that it?
Klaus saw that the bartender poured him a new drink. Klaus grabbed it and moved closer to the dance floor. Stefan and Rebekah left their corner to go back out and dance. At least they were out where Klaus could keep an eye on them
Klaus wanted to be ready in case the time came to run, but he also did not want to be paranoid if it was a false alarm.
Maybe the witch was just practicing a quick spell, Klaus hoped. A spell around the speakeasy to make sure it wasn't discovered.
Unfortunately that was not the case.
Klaus straightened when he felt Mikael's presence. His step father wasn't even in the building, but Klaus knew it was him. He had gotten used to being near Mikael over the past centuries.
"Chicago Police," someone yelled. The police roared in and started shooting.
"Great, he compelled help," Klaus said aloud. He was upset that his step- father wasn't man enough to fight himself.
Klaus finished his drink and through it over his shoulder.
"Bekah," Klaus said approaching the couple.
Rebekah POV
As soon as the police came, Rebekah and Stefan ducked down behind the bar.
The mirror above the bar shattered on top of Stefan and Rebekah. The shreds from the mirror hit the bottles of liquor which also broke into pieces and showered down on the couple.
Stefan bent down and picked up one of the bullets. Wooden.
"Who's here," Stefan asked.
Rebekah shivered. She knew her father had caught up to them. They hadn't been near him in years. She had hoped he wouldn't find them for at least another decade. Unfortunately for her it didn't last. He plan to stay with Stefan in Chicago didn't last. This "for a while" didn't last.
The world was crashing down around her bullet by bullet.
"Come on sweetheart," Rebekah heard Nik call out. She didn't want to leave behind the bar. Not because she was scared; she didn't want to leave Stefan.
She wasn't sure if Klaus was going to let him come with them or not.
Stefan got up, so Rebekah decided to follow. Klaus allowed her to lead the way out of the bar and to their safety.
She touched her necklace. It had been with her for so long, it had given her hope throughout everything. One touch and she knew she was going to make it out okay.
Rebekah didn't feel the necklace fall to the ground.
She continued to Gloria's office. She was going to take that door out knowing that not many people knew about it. She made it through the office and outside. She ran at vampire speed down the block. She knew that Mikael could catch her, but he was probably more worried about Niklaus.
"Nik!" Rebekah suddenly realized that Nik and Stefan were not behind her. Where were they?
She couldn't stop. Klaus had told her every single day, that if they ever got separated, they should continue to the meeting palace.
In Chicago, Klaus decided that they should meet at the warehouse across the city where their family was kept in coffins.
Rebekah ran at vampire speed until she was safe.
Klaus POV
When Stefan bent down to pick up Rebekah's necklace, Klaus stopped him.
He looked into Stefan's eyes glad that they never gave him vervain.
Klaus had made his decision. He would not allow Stefan to be going with them.
Stefan was still new to the way of the originals.
Klaus knew that Rebekah would be upset. But she would get over it. She has gotten over all of the other ones. And she had moved on every single time not even remembering the past loves.
Klaus compelled Stefan to forget and then he sped away. A confused Stefan was left behind.
Klaus ran until he made it to the warehouse. He saw his sister waiting for him. Her eyes lit up at the sight of him.
The compelled car then arrived ready to take them out of Chicago.
The rest of the Mikealson family was to be locked in the basement of the warehouse. Klaus didn't want to carry them with him while he was on the run anymore. He would put them away himself and change the records so future workers would never go down and un-dagger his family.
The driver pulled to a stop.
Klaus checked his pockets to make sure that he had all of the belongings that he absolutely needed. Everything else would stay at the apartment or it would be shipped to him once he found the next location.
"Hurry up Rebekah," Klaus said as he opened up the door.
"He'll be here any second," Rebekah said. She was waiting for Stefan. She had hoped that he was only behind Nik because he was younger and didn't have enough strength to run fast.
"We need to leave," Klaus said. "We have been found."
"Not without Stefan," Rebekah said determined.
"Stefan's not coming. He had to disappear. He would draw to much attention." Klaus felt his pocket again. The dagger coated in the white oak ash was there. He was prepared to stake his sister if she would not cooperate.
"What did you do?" Rebekah asked she had tears in her eyes. She was upset that her brother never let anything go her way.
"Come, we don't have time for one of your tantrums," Klaus said. He left the car to grab Rebekah's arm. He would forcefully drag her along if he had to; or dagger her, whatever he wanted at the moment.
Rebekah pulled her arm out of his grip. "I don't want to run anymore Nik. All we do is run!"
Did she not know that he did not want to run either? Klaus didn't enjoy the constant fear of being followed. He wanted to settle down as much as she did, but it would be impossible until Mikael was dead.
"I want to be with Stefan," Rebekah said. She started to cry.
She thought that he would give her a normal life? Klaus thought.
He knew that his sister had only ever wanted a normal life. Every guy she had ever been with was so she could have a normal life. Rebekah liked to be with humans because it made her feel more like a human.
Stefan was the first vampire courting her in a very long time. Klaus could not deny that Stefan was different; not only did Stefan get along with Rebekah, but he also got along with Klaus.
Klaus knew that Rebekah would find someone else and she would get over Stefan, but he would not put up with her tantrum for the next month. She needed to choose. She needed to make the decision to be an adult on her own.
"Fine then choose; him or me?" Klaus said giving her an ultimatum. If she chose Stefan then she would be daggered and rotting in a box until Klaus need her again; however, if she chose to stay with Klaus, Rebekah would be able to live.
Rebekah didn't reply knowing that if Klaus heard her chose Stefan her punishment would be worse.
"That's what I thought," Klaus said upset.
He turned away and went back to the car. "Get in the truck, let's go." Klaus said giving her once last chance to change her mind.
"Good bye Nik," Rebekah said. She did not move from her spot. She wanted to live with Stefan. She decided that she would find him and live a happy life with or without her brother.
Klaus stopped walking.
As Rebekah turned around and headed for the exit, Klaus was there. He stabbed the metal stake through his sister's heart. He cradled her to him as she desiccated turning a blackish blue color. Klaus hated seeing the veins run up her body, but he knew it was his only choice.
Klaus carried her to coffin. He placed her in softly. He leaned down and kissed her forehead. He looked at her one last time.
"If only you cooperated," he said. "I will see you when it is time for you to be in my presence."
As much as he loved his sister, she was a nuisance. And with Mikael right on his tail, Klaus could not be distracted with watching his younger sister.
Klaus closed the lid of Rebekah's coffin. He compelled the driver to load all of his family's coffins into the basement.
"After you finish that, close the door and lock it. Then I want you to take this knife and stab your heart," Klaus said as he handed the man the knife.
"But won't you need my assistance in driving?" The man asked. He did not want to die.
"No, you are no longer needed. I will run." Klaus said. He looked into he man's eyes one last time. "Do not talk to anyone as you complete your task."
After Klaus was certain that his family would be safe for a few years, he ran off.
He was saying good bye to Chicago. His sister was gone and Stefan no longer knew about them.
Klaus was free to escape Mikael on his own...
Up next is the Bonus chapter. It's scenes from the present (Season 3 and 4 of the Vampire Diaries) from Stefan and Rebekah's pov. I am still taking suggestions for scenes for the bonus chapter!
Please Review! They make me really happy and encourage me to write more!
