Epilogue
Sweat was running down Cami's face. She was using the poles at the school gymnasium to do flips and better her climbing skills. She had been in the gymnasium after school every day since her wounds had healed. Cami jumped down and stuck the landing. She went to her bag and took out a towel and a bottle of water.
Cami rubbed the sweat off her neck and drank her water. She looked out the window to the soccer field. Sam was running down the field by himself with a soccer ball. He was sweaty and panting, but handling the soccer ball with expert care. He balanced the ball on his foot and kicked it into the goal. Cami picked up her bag and went outside to see Sam.
"Hey, Sammy!" Cami called once she came outside. "Care for a little one-on-one?"
"You think you can take me on?" Sam asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Just try to keep up." Cami said, running onto the field. She kicked the ball out of his hands and ran down towards his goal.
"Hey!" Sam yelled, running after her.
The two of them were evenly matched as they fought each other for the soccer ball. Hidden in Sam's bag were his shock pistols and hidden in Cami's bag were her canes. Their parents would not let them leave the house without them. They were quite adept at hiding them from the school administration.
Both Sam and Cami had returned to their normal lives for the most part. A couple things had changed, like the pistols and canes. Their parents had both retired from active police work and now had cushy desk jobs that allowed them to get home at a reasonable time every day.
Murray worked as a mechanic and demolition driver who lived a block down the street. He was also sweet on the badger lady who ran the nearby deli. He was teaching Sam and Cami to drive. It was a rather stressful experience.
Bentley and Penelope worked as computer programmers who lived a block in the other direction. Their marriage is to be in the spring. They were always happy to help Sam and Cami with homework.
Panda King still lived in China with his daughter. She's still unmarried, but a young tiger was working hard to earn Panda King's favor. Jing King seemed to like the tiger too.
Dimitri was still the "Best Diver Dude Around", but was always happy to lend some style assistance whenever anyone called or came over. Everyone stayed away as often as possible.
Guru visited whenever he needed to escape from his stalker apprentices. He taught Cami and Sam some Dreamtime skills when the circumstances allowed it.
Every single one of the Cooper Gang was keeping in contact, waiting for the day that Tijd would resurface. They all hoped that would never happen.
Cami and Sam played soccer against each other until they fell over, completely spent. They lay on the ground, panting. They laughed breathlessly on the ground.
"I win." Cami laughed.
"No, you didn't." Sam laughed. "I did."
"Unlikely." Cami smiled. Cami heaved herself up. "Come on." Cami helped Sam up and they picked up their bags. In their hurry the bag's zippers weren't completely shut.
"I hear Murray's making tacos tonight." Sam said, jogging to catch up with his sister.
"Sweet." Cami smiled. "I love taco night."
Cami and Sam walked home together through the twisty streets of Paris. Little did they know that someone was watching them through the hidden cameras recording the streets corners and traffic.
Tijd watched the twins walk back home. They had passed the test with flying colors. Both the little Cooper and the little Fox had much potential. They needed to be broken and then controlled. Then they would be quite useful to him.
Tijd then noticed something in both Cami's and Sam's backpacks. Tijd paused the video and zoomed in onto the backpacks. In both of their backpacks, they both carried a notebook with the Cooper emblem on the covers, but the emblems were varied slightly.
Cami's was the Cooper emblem, but with a mask over the eyes. Sam's was the Cooper emblem with a line running down the center of the face. Neither Sam nor Cami were going to be given the Thievius Raccoonus until they were eighteen, but they had each started their own version, to be copied into the Thievius Raccoonus when they inherited it.
Cami noticed her bag wasn't zipped and stopped. She shoved the notebook deeper into her bag. She hadn't shown it to Sam.
"Hey, Sammy, what do you think you are going to do?" Cami asked, delicately.
Sam knew immediately what she was talking about. He froze for a moment as he zipped up his bag. He shoved his notebook deeper into the bag. He hadn't shown it to Cami. "I don't know, Cam. What about you?"
Cami smiled slightly. "To be a thief or not to be a thief?"
"That is the question." Sam said without missing a beat.
"No idea."
"Me neither."
The two of them looked at each other, thoughtfully. Neither knew what they would pick, or if they were going to do it together, but they had two years to decide and a lot could happen in two years. Right now though, they were Samuel Fox and Camille Cooper, a teenaged raccoon trying to pass Junior Math Analysis and a teenaged fox trying to pass Junior English Literature.
Whatever the future held, whether Tijd would return or some other unforeseeable enemy, both Sam and Cami would be ready, no matter which path they chose.
Is it too late to start adding author's notes? Hello readers, I guess this is the first time I've talked to you guys as me and not Cami or Sam. Big thanks to all of you for staying with me and not getting to ticked off at me because of my irregular updating schedule. Kind of funny, I started writing this FanFic while I was watching a walkthrough of Sly 1-3. Now I have Sly 4 Thieves in Time playing as I write this. Weird. Now I'm rambling. Still, thanks all and I hope this ending satifies you. In all honesty, I have no idea whether Cami or Sam will follow in Sly's footsteps, nor do I know whether or not I will write a sequel. Maybe. Thanks guys for staying with me until the end.
