Eyes Open: A KakaIru Two-Shot.

Part Two: Close Your Eyes

Rain poured down on him, but he didn't notice. He was numb. He couldn't feel anything, physically or emotionally. His world was gone. His life was gone. Everyone he had ever loved was gone, and now the man he loved had left him. He was a monster. What, or who, could possibly love him, after all? It was over.

...

After awhile Iruka had calmed down and looked up from his hands, which were covering his face, to stare at the door. His mind was blank and he felt numb. After what seemed like hours of staring at the door, but must have only been minutes, a thought came into his mind, and suddenly panic replaced the numbness.

What have I done?

He quickly stood up and wiped his damp eyes with the back of his tanned hand, then swung the door open and ran outside into the rain, not even thinking to close the door behind him as he left. He sprinted down his apartment stairs and when he got to the road he stopped briefly. He looked around desperately for any sign of Kakashi, but found none.

Even after running throughout the village, he still didn't find any trace of the man he loved, and would always love. He was beginning to feel horribly depressed as the time passed looking for the Jounin, and he wanted to just curl up in the wet and rainy street.

He had almost lost all hope of finding the Jounin when an idea hit him.

The memorial stone…

As soon as the idea came into Iruka's mind, he was running towards where the stone was. His sandals slapped against the wet pavement, causing the few people out on the streets to turn their heads and look in his direction. By the time they looked though, he was already out of sight.

When he finally got to the stone, he saw Kakashi standing in front of it, his head hanging down and his damp hair drooping over his face.

Iruka sighed in relief, wanting to cry he was so happy to see the stupid, lazy Jounin. He was behind the taller man before Kakashi even sensed him in the area.

Tanned arms wrapped tightly around the Jounin's waist and a tanned, scarred face pressed between the other man's shoulder blades, breathing in the familiar and calming scent.

Kakashi had jumped slightly in surprise from the sudden contact, but automatically knew who it was hugging him. He would know that hug anywhere, as well as the chakra.

"I'm so sorry," Iruka cried, hugging Kakashi tighter. His voice was muffled in the damp fabric. He squeezed his tear-swollen eyes shut, burying his face deeper into the wet material of the Jounin's green vest. "I didn't mean it! I was just angry; I wasn't thinking at all!"

Kakashi turned around- with much effort, due to the fact that Iruka was hugging him so tight- and wrapped his arms around the Chuunin.

"Don't be sorry," Kakashi said gently, his voice barely audible. "It's not your fault." He sounded like he had been crying, but who would think twice about the infamous Copy Ninja crying? Iruka would, and he was probably the only person who could testify to that.

Kakashi's long arms held the man he loved closer to him, scared that he might lose him forever if he let go. He pressed his masked face into the familiar wet, brown hair, inhaling the comforting smell of his Chuunin through the soaking fabric.

After a couple of minutes of just standing there embracing each other, both taking comfort in the others arms, the silence was broken.

"I just wish you would talk to me," Iruka said softly against Kakashi's chest, his voice muffled.

Kakashi looked down at the Chuunin, his face showing understanding, sorrow, and most of all, apology.

"I know, love. I'm sorry. I'll tell you everything, I promise. But first we need to get out of the rain. Not to mention get some sleep. We both need to calm down before we talk."

Iruka nodded in agreement against the older man's chest.

"Ok," he said, believing the Jounin when he said he would tell him everything. Kakashi might have been absent, but he never lied to the other man. Not without making it an obvious joke, anyway.

When the two men got back to their shared apartment, they both went into the bathroom.

Kakashi leaned into the bathtub and turned on the hot water, then switched it so it came out of the showerhead instead. He adjusted the temperature, adding a little cold water.

Turning around to his Chuunin, he unzipped the other man's vest and let it fall to the floor, then pulled off the now soaking wet shirt, revealing the tanned and lightly scarred chest that belonged to the person he loved so much.

Iruka did the same to Kakashi, and once they were both out of their clothes, Kakashi stepped into the shower, pulling Iruka in with him.

The shower was blissful. Nothing sexual happened, as it tended to a lot when they showered together. The two lovers simply held each other, washing each other's hair and body. Long after they were clean, they continued to stand under the hot, constant stream of water, heads buried into each other's bodies and arms wrapped tight around each other.

When the hot water started to go warm, the Jounin turned off the water, and they both stepped out.

Once dry and in their pajama pants, the two lovers got into their warm and welcoming bed.

When they were both tucked cozily under the covers, Kakashi's arms wrapped around Iruka and pulled him close into the safety of his arms.

Iruka's arms wrapped around the Jounin in response, and he soon happily fell asleep in the warm and safe embrace.

This is home.

"First things first. Why hasn't your behavior been the same? And where have you been lately?"

Kakashi was sitting on the couch across from Iruka, who was sitting on a chair. Both men had a hot cup of tea cradled in their hands.

"My behavior changed because this is the month Obito died," Kakashi said simply, not showing any emotion in his voice. "And I've been spending all my time at the memorial stone."

Iruka's eyes widened, looking at Kakashi in shock.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked, almost feeling outraged. Although the strong feeling was directed at himself, and not the other man. Why had he not noticed? Kakashi hadn't been distant. He had been depressed.

Kakashi didn't answer for a moment. His single-visible eye stared at the hot contents in his cup.

"I guess I just wanted to deal with it on my own," he said slowly, considering his words. "I'm not used to talking to anyone about it. And I didn't want you to worry..." He trailed off, nervously spinning the cup around in his pale hands.

Iruka's eyes softened with understanding and he moved over to the couch to sit next to the Jounin, placing his cup on the table before he sat down.

He then hugged the infamous Copy Nin, who wasn't always as smart as people thought he was.

I love this man.

"Kashi, you could have told me…"

Kakashi hugged the younger man back, the other's touch automatically comforting him like it always did. He sighed.

"I know. I was being stupid and stubborn. I'm sorry… If I just told you then none of this would have ever happened." Regret filled his voice, and it matched his sorrowful, grey eye.

Iruka nodded slightly, agreeing with the other man.

"Yes, you were," Iruka agreed. "But I still love you."

Kakashi smiled slightly and kissed Iruka.

"I love you too, Ru. Always."

A smile tugged at Iruka's lips and he kissed Kakashi back, brushing his lips against the other man's in soft caresses.

"Always," he repeated. "But promise me one thing…"

Kakashi slowly pulled away from the kiss and looked down at Iruka, his single grey eye full of promise and dedication, while his other eye was covered with his black cloth eye patch he wore at home.

"Anything."

"No more secrets."

Kakashi leaned down and softly kissed Iruka's lips again.

"I promise."

He was then pushed back by Iruka so he was lying on the couch with the Chuunin on top of him.

Before Kakashi could register it, Iruka's lips met his.

After awhile of blissful kissing, Kakashi picked Iruka up and walked to their bedroom, laying the younger man down on the bed. He then got on top of him and their lips found each others again.

The kiss was pure love, sweet and blissful, and the intensity of the kiss steadily increased. It was still filled with love, but became much more.

It was like they were starving or drowning, and only the other person could save the other.

They clung to each other, and their bodies wrapped together as Kakashi took Iruka's vest off, then his own, then Iruka's shirt, then his shirt…

All of their clothes finally ended up in a pile on the floor.
