A/N: Thank you so much for the kind reviews! I want to apologize for the long wait on updating. Family and the holiday got in the way. Also, kudos to GiJoules83 for noticing the "clue" I hinted at last chapter! In the end that clue will all make sense. Sorry if the story is riddled with errors, I jammed through this chapter as fast as I could...I really, really hope you enjoy.
As the night progresses, Jane and Maura head to the blondes room where innocent kisses turn into something more intense. Clothes begin to come off as the passion grows as well as the bond between them. When grinding is not enough for either of them, Jane skims a scarred hand down the blonde's waist and into the spot that Maura craves. Just as the blonde begins to enjoy Jane's touch the brunette jerks her hand back as if she were burned.
As she feels the other woman yank away, Maura opens her eyes and when she does sees a stunned Jane looking at her with her mouth agape. Fearing that Jane doesn't want this with her Maura's insecurity makes her pull the sheet around her body to cover herself up.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pushed this." The blonde looks down as she speaks.
"NO!" Jane shouts so piercingly that the other woman jumps back startled. "No," Jane says more gingerly as she tries to get the blonde to look at her. "I…I saw…I saw something. I don't know how but I saw things."
"I don't follow Jane, you 'saw things', what does that mean?" Maura pulls the sheet tighter around her. "Maura, I think I saw your childhood through your own eyes. I saw a school and I saw a younger version of your mother. You were saying goodbye and I felt what you felt. Like when you said you felt what I felt when I first saw you."
"Your mom was leaving you at the boarding school to come back to America. You watched her leave, and even though you wanted to go to this school. You were sad and you reasoned that if she stopped and told you to come home with her you would. When you saw her leave you were saddened that she didn't think twice about leaving you." Jane finishes and as she does she scoots closer to Maura, wrapping her up into her arms.
Maura holds on tightly to Jane, "I wanted nothing more for her to ask me to not stay there, to go to a school back in the States. I was so—" Maura stops and Jane watches the blonde as she thinks. "Wait, I can't believe I didn't catch that before. I was so wrapped up in the happiness of you coming back that I was temporarily blinded to the facts."
Jane loosens her hold on the other woman as she comes eye to eye with Maura, "What Maur?"
"You had asked me if I knew what you first thought of me." Maura looks to the brunette as if it is obvious. The blonde begins to explain more when she sees the dumbfounded look upon the other woman's face. "I have only had memories that come before your blood donation. From what I understand, at the time I met you, you had already donated your blood."
"So what are you saying Maura?" Jane looks to the blonde for the explanation. "I don't know. My only theory would be that, your donation and my transfusion has created a stronger connection than I had originally thought."
"So like we are connected for life now? Like this was meant to be?" With a smile on her face, Jane questions Maura. "I would only be guessing if I said yes, but I would have to test further for a definitive answer."
Pulling at the sheet that Maura had covered herself with, Jane grins devilishly. "If testing means more of what we were doing, than I would like to endlessly test your theory."
By the morning, Jane had received so many of the blonde's memories that it began to create a headache for the brunette. "I don't really get it, but I like that I can know things about you…I feel you. I feel so connected to you that it makes my heart hurt." Jane declares as she snuggles with the blonde.
"I have had that feeling for a while. When we were fighting, my only thought was that I needed to be your friend even if we couldn't be more. I have this draw to you that seems to overpower every other one of my senses." Maura brushes the hairs that surround the brunette's face before she kisses her temple.
"I know what you mean…this feeling is more than I can bare. It heightens every second I'm with you." Jane pauses before she looks sorrowful. "I don't think I could go through what you went through when we were fighting. I wouldn't be able to be away from you knowing you were mad at me. I'm sorry for everything."
"It's okay Jane. I have you back now…you and Stinky." Maura smiles brightly as she squeezes her arms tightly around Jane.
The tall detective walks into the precinct with a different stride about her and she is sure other will notice, but she doesn't care. For once in a long time she is happy, more than happy she is finally content with her life.
As she steps into the office she notices the other two detectives hard at work. "What was so urgent that you had to call me almost 20 times…ON MY WAY IN? I'm not even late, for once I'm early!" Jane laughs but stops immediately when she sees her partners face. "What? What did I miss?"
"Janie, sit down." Korsak suggests as he pulls out a chair, "Cavanaugh wants all of in his office. He's on the phone right now with Dr. Isles."
"No!" Jane pushes the chair back so hard that it tips over and clatters as it hits the floor. "What is wrong with Maura?"
"Nothing!" Both the men say in unison before looking at each other as they silently debate whether they should tell Jane themselves. "Jane." Frost starts and Korsak shoots him a disapproving face. "I may get into a lot of trouble by telling you this…but it's Hoyt."
"What does Hoyt have to do with Maura?" Jane asks urgently as she feels the bile rise into her throat. "Nothing…well something." Korsak bumbles over his words and it's Frost who returns the annoyed look this time.
"Listen, Hoyt went into the hospital for an emergency surgery for appendicitis. While prepping him, Hoyt grabbed a scalpel and attacked the nurses and doctors." Frost looks to Jane to make sure she was following.
"Why wasn't he cuffed?" Jane questions the two detectives.
"He was in for surgery, they didn't think he would need to be cuffed. He acted as if he was in severe pain."
"200mg of Decadron would give Hoyt an abnormal white cell count, it mimics the symptoms. HE WAS FAKING IT!" Jane whines the last part as if she is pleading for someone to let her go back in time and stop this from happening.
"We aren't disagreeing with you Jane, but it's the facts." Korsak tries to grab back woman's attention. "But that is besides the point, while trying to escape, Hoyt ran into the officers stationed on the outer door."
"Jane, the officers shot and wounded him as he fled. When they caught up with him they noticed he was unresponsive. They radioed in that he was dead." The younger detective informs the brunette.
"Cavanaugh called Dr. Isles personally to head directly to the crime scene, we tried calling you so you could head straight there as well." Korsak chimes in just as Cavanaugh's door swings open.
"I have to get there right now!" Jane calls out and runs out of the office, ignoring her superiors shouts to come back.
Walking through the hospital hallway, Jane can't help to feel sickened and also elated to finally being able to see Charles Hoyt's dead lifeless body. The detective pulls out her badge as she nears the yellow tape.
"Rizzoli, Homicide…Victor 825." She informs the officer keeping guard. Grabbing the tape, Jane goes to duck under the thin yellow barricade. "Hold on Detective Rizzoli, no one can enter until Dr. Isles gets here." The officer stops the brunette before she gets to the other side of the police tape.
Jane's stomach drops and her head spins, "Dr. Isles isn't here yet?" she questions the officer while she whips out her cell phone. As she dials Maura's number the officer answers her question, "No, she hasn't showed up and the department is going to send another doctor out if she doesn't show up soon."
Flags go up for the detective even before she hears the doctor's voicemail pick up. When Jane hears the beep indicating it's time to leave her message, the detective frantically speaks into the phone. "Maura! Where are you? Call me as soon as you get this message. I will not stop calling until I hear from you!" Hanging up Jane immediately calls Frost but he doesn't pick up. Again she leaves another voicemail, "They have Maura…I can feel it Frost! You need to track her phone and find out where she is." Jane slams her finger down on the end call button."
Maura let's out a scream as she feels the panic shoot through her body. It only takes a moment to regain her bearings, and when she does she watches a man exit his car and walk up to her car window.
"Sorry about that, I didn't see you there." The man tells the blonde when she rolls down her window. "Since it's private property we can exchange insurance and be on our way."
"I have to be somewhere, it's just a fender bender. I'll just pay out of pocket." Maura waves the man off. "Don't be silly. Follow me to my car, I will not take no for an answer."
Against her better judgment, Maura exits the car and follows the man to the passenger side of his car.
The phone rings and Jane immediately picks up her phone. "Maura! Is th—" Jane goes silent as the voice on the other end interrupts her.
"Jaaaaaane. Long time no talk." Hoyt slithers out and Jane's head pops up into the direction of the hallway Hoyt's body should be. "No, Jane I'm not dead."
Walking past the yellow tape, Jane slams the officer to the ground when he tries to stop her. "Now, now Jane. There's no need for violence."
Not bothering to look around, the brunette makes her way to the blooded body facedown on the ground. Kneeling down, Jane takes her scarred hands and flips over the body.
"Is that enough proof for you or should I send you pieces of Dr. Isles Jane?" Turning to the side, the detective vomits what little she has in her stomach. "Yes, Jane we have her, and if you want her back you will walk outside and enter the blue van that's waiting for you."
"Okay, I'm coming. Don't you dare hurt her." Jane gives out one last demand as she hangs up and walks out of the hospital.
After the hold up with Cavanaugh, Frost and Korsak make their way to the crime scene. Both detectives eyeing each other when they see the commotion happening at the scene, "What is going on here?" Korsak hollers over the people talking.
"Rizzoli, she came busting in here. Slammed down the officer guarding the scene and then tampered with the crime scene before running out of here." An officer informs the two men.
Stepping around the tape, the two men eye the hospital-gowned corpse on the floor. Frost goes to speak but the words he is about to say leave someone else's mouth, "That's not Charles Hoyt?" the soft but firm voice says from behind the young detective. Both men turn to the blonde standing a few feet behind them.
"Dr. Isles? Did you just get here?" Korsak asks with a bewildered face. "Yes, I was in a very mild car crash with a rather pushy gentleman…where's Jane?"
"We don't know…the officer out there said she took off." Korsak informs Maura and watches as Frost pulls out his cell phone. "Shit, my phone was off from the meeting with Cavanaugh." Frost groans as he turns on the phone.
"Here, she probably called me too." Maura retrieves her phone from her bag. "She did, let me listen to the voicemail."
Almost at once, both Frost and Maura's features change with understanding. "Hoyt has Jane." Maura says as her phone drops to the floor.
Jane wakes to the cold metal of the back of the van, only realizing she is cuffed when she tries to sit up. When she hears the laughter of the man she has come to know quite well, Jane spins until she is facing Hoyt. "Where is she?"
"Oh Janie, you are just as I remembered…feisty…stubborn…beautiful." Hoyt rubs his fingers down Jane's face and watches as the brunette fights to pull back from his touch.
Jane tugs at her restraints as she screams at the top of her lungs, "WHERE IS SHE?" Hoyt's face brightens with the dulling sunlight from the outside as the van door opens and a man climbs in. Jane watches as the smile appears on his face and the snickering falls from his mouth, "You see that man right there? That man is my apprentice. I sent him out to delay your stunning girlfriend making you think we took her." Pulling out his scalpel, Hoyt rubs the flat side over Jane's cheek. "I know you too well Jane, so determined to maintain justice over the wicked…to protect the ones you love. I used her to my advantage. I wanted to kill her but it makes more sense to keep her alive. To live on and be tormented by the fact that she forced you here…that she was the one to kill the only person that loved her. But don't worry Jane, after you are gone…we will keep a good eye on her and make sure she suffers."
"NOOOOOOOO!" Jane screams and the pain from Hoyt's words are more excruciating than the slice of Hoyt's scalpel.
Sorry about the cliffhanger, but it will be okay! The next chapter should be the last so I will have that up soon. Also, I am starting a new story soon so keep an eye open for that.
