Thank you to all the reviewers, followers, people who have favorited this story and anyone reading this. I am so so so sorry it has taken me so long to post this next chapter. I can not believe I haven't updated it since last November! I started it way back at the end of November but then I have had college work and January exams. Then I just didn't have time for much writing and got a bit of writers block. More recently I have just had a load more exams and course work to finish off. Thankfully that is over now, however I do still have college to attend and work for next year to do, but it will be minimal in comparison. So hopefully I will have more time for writing.

This has been a chapter I have wanted to write since the first ideas for this story. It has also been a chapter which was hard to write. I really wanted to pull the story along a bit more than the previous chapters have, which is partially why it has taken so long to write. I hope everyone reading this continues to enjoy it.

Summary: Zero and Kaname have always been similar, with similar traumatic experiences and pasts. Both are drawn to one another, though they are loath to admit it. As they both know the biggest difference Zero is a level D, who will one day fall to level E, while Kaname is a pureblood. However a new Day Class student seems to have hidden secrets which concern Zero, and when the truth is revealed the changes it brings about throw them into the greatest danger ever possible.

This will be a Yaoi fic, which is M/M with ZeroXKaname and vice versa. There will possibly be some TakumaXShiki as well. Some possible other pairings but Kaname/Zero Zero/Kaname will be the main one. This will mostly be Romance, Drama and possibly Humour.

A.n. This is slightly AU as Ichiru died when Shizuka was killed and Zero has not got any of her blood– so there is nothing to stop Zero falling to level E. Kaname hasn't yet given Zero any blood and Yuki is still human. Also Rido hasn't yet attacked the academy.

Disclaimer: I do not own Vampire Knight or its characters, they are the work of Matsuri Hino, I am just borrowing them for the purpose of this fic. All I own are my own characters and the plot line.

There is OOCness and switching of pov's. I should probably have mentioned this before, but this is un-betaed,

On a side note, I personally prefer Zero seme and Kaname as uke, so that will come across more but I'm not going to place either in the exclusive role of seme or uke, so they will be changing round.

(Thank you Guest for spotting my mistake with Sara Shirabuki's name I have now corrected it)

Pureblood Powers

Chapter 6 – The Unexpected

Arriving at the Vampire Council

"Lord Kaname-sama."

Kaname stepped from the limo his face schooled to the neutral expression a true lead should have, calm and collected a regale air rolling of him. He strode forwards and into the council leaders room.

"Kaname-sama, I knew you would be arriving soon." Asato Ichijo knelt before him taking his hand

"It has been to long, my lord." Kaname felt sick, how he loathed and detested this man with every fiber of his being, still he managed to keep himself in check

"It has been the matter of a few weeks, unimaginably short to us a vampires, what use is it to me to be here whilst I should be attending school."

"Kaname-sama, we shall discuss that matter tomorrow night when our companion has arrived."

Meanwhile at Cross Academy

Zero, Yuki and Alanna are on patrol. Scuffles are heard from near the moon dorm walls

"Quick before the guardians catch us!" as soon as Alanna heard the whisper she leapt over the wall to land several meters down

"Names and class numbers, NOW!"

"Eep! It's the new guardian! Kinoto-san"

"What's the big deal, surely you understand. We only want a picture of the Night Class!"

"Its past curfew for Day Class students, you must go back to your dorms at once!"

"Alanna?"

"Zero, I just found these girls trying to sneak into the Moon Dorms!"

"You'd best take them to the headmaster, since they haven't given you their names or class numbers."

"Wait! I'm-"

"To late now, Alanna take them to the headmaster."

"I do know what to do Zero! Come on you two"

Zero watched to retreating back's of the three girls two following Alanna dejectedly. Zero sighed, heavily. Kaname had only been gone for one night, and was expected to return within a few days time and he, Zero, was already missing him. He laughed slightly at how if you had told him just a few months ago that he, the vampire hunter, Zero Kiryu, would miss ANY vampire, especially a pureblood, even more especially Kaname Kuran, he would probably have shot them with the bloody rose, or laughed them of the face of the earth. How feelings change!

The next night

At the Vampire Senate headquarters

Kaname hated staying at the Vampire Senate headquarters, still it was much better than returning to Asato's house. He wanted to be done with the business soon, so he could return to Cross Academy. He knew that Zero needed his blood to stay sane, unfortunately the time between feeds was decreasing, and Kaname knew Zero couldn't really last more than a few nights without him at the moment. However the Senate were being very cagey about why they had called him out here. Refusing to discus matter before someone else arrived.

Kaname was standing in his quarters when he felt the presence of someone he really didn't want to feel approaching.

"Why, Kaname Kuran! I have missed you" A sugar sweet voice said, it was like syrup, coating you, so most people didn't realise this woman's true evil nature, Kaname however wasn't most people and he had always been sure this woman was evil, yet he lacked the evidence to prove it, well he lacked evidence at present.

"Sara Shirabuki, what a pleasant surprise." Kaname said in the flattest and most bored tone he could.

Kaname hated loathed and detested Sara, the only person he disliked more was Asato and that was saying something! He hoped he wouldn't have to suffer her for long.

At that moment a level C servant appeared,

"Kuran-Sama, Shirabuki-Sama the meeting in the grand meeting room is about to start, and both of your presence's are required" he finished with a bow.

Kaname sighed, meeting always lasted way longer than they should, and by using the grand meeting room that was basically admitting that this was going to take about a week! The grand meeting room was much larger than any of the other meeting rooms. All the meetings that had taken place there had taken about a week from start to finish.

When he and Sara arrived at the grand meeting room, Kaname pushed open the oversized and elegantly engraved doors. As a young child when he had been living with Asato him ad Takuma had had many happy times, when they could slip away from their minders and come her and play – making up stories about the pictures they could see in the doors. Kaname particularly favoured the engraving of six pureblood vampires fighting a horde of Level E's, protecting some humans. This was Asato's least favoured engraving he would have liked to remove it, however the doors had been created at the age of the great vampire war. They were originally in the old Kuran manor, but when the council was created they had been a gift as the doors for the most important meeting room. So the doors remained – with their tale of ancient vampire history.

Today however Kaname had no time for reminiscing about the past or to study the doors. He simply went inside where two places were left for them, Kaname's at the head of the table and Sara's too his left, the rest of the council seated around the table waiting for them. This threw Kaname, usually Sara (or any other pureblood present for that matter) would sit opposite Kaname at the other end of the table. The seat to their left was that reserved usually for the mate or fiancé of the Pureblood, if they hadn't got a mate or fiancé then it was for their closest adviser, so Kaname had been prepared to suffer through a week of sitting next to Asato, Sara was an unwelcome surprise. And this did confuse him.

As they sat and the other vampires (all level B) stood and bowed too them, Kaname was in a fog – please don't let this meeting last to long, I can't stand Sara! – he was so lost in thought he didn't even listen to the first part of the meeting, it was about 3 ½ hours in when the statement of why the meeting was really being held shocked him back from his musings

"Well of course to continue the sanctity of purebloods, Kaname Kuran must marry Sara Shirabuki. She is the best female pureblood who can match Kuran, for power, there are so few pureblood left now."

"WHAT!" (He knew he should have sensed that something was up with Sara sitting next to him)

"Is there a problem Kaname dearest?"

The fact that Sara had just said this made Kaname feel even more sick. Marry SARA! Sara it seemed had no surprise at the idea, Kaname had a sneaking suspicion, that she had a hand in making this be decided so quickly - after all he was only 18! The idea was ludicrous, but it seemed he was the only one to think so. It had been drummed into him since birth, A PUREBLOOD MUST MARRY AND PRODUCE OFSPRING WITH ANOTHER PUREBLOOD, TO CONTINUE THE PUREBLOOD LINES, AND THE SANCTITY OF THE PUREBLOODS! With so few purebloods left, the chance of not marrying Sara was slim. Though why marry Sara now? Why not wait a few years? True purebloods did marry young (usually between 16 – 20) but that was long ago! There hadn't been a pureblood wedding since his parents! And even then they had both been over 24, how Kaname wished that the senate would move at least a bit more with the times, he did not want to marry Sara ever, let alone before he even hit 20! He knew there was another pureblood…but he didn't want anyone but him to know…and he didn't want to marry her anymore either! He might have wanted to just a few months ago, but not now – he had Zero!

But he also knew the senate would NEVER approve of him marrying Zero. Firstly Zero was a Level D, falling to Level E, this was just one step up from marrying a HUMAN, actually marrying a human might be better because then they could be turned and stabilised at Level D, while that wasn't an option for Zero. And secondly Zero was a non-pureblood GUY, who therefore couldn't provide any offspring. Kaname needed to think this over, and think up a plan so he could stay with Zero and escape Sara.

The rest of the council was now looking at him quizzically. Asato asked

"I take it there is no problem with this decision Kaname – Sama, you can surely understand it is the only option."

Kaname did some quick thinking "I will complete my studies before embarking in marriage, the wedding can be held at the end of the next academic year – after I have graduated." That should at least give me time to figure something out!

"While that isn't an unreasonable request, Sara has shown interest in attending Cross Academy herself. So you can marry her and continue your studies. It is perfect!" Of course Sara would have! She must have known about this before coming here! Damn!

"Could we not just be class mates till graduation?"

"Kuran – Sama, stop dithering. We know you have mated to that Level D hunter! This is unforgivable, the only way to get any delusions out of your head now and to truly prove to the vampire population, because we can publish the story of your love to them very very easily, that you are fit to be out leader, is to marry Sara as soon as possible, if you don't agree because of him we have no qualms about disposing of him!"

"You wouldn't dare harm him!"

"Kaname, the sun you endured over the summer break must have affected you!"

All the heads turned to find (to Kaname's deep disgust) a pair of miss matched eyes and a head of hair not unlike Kaname's own.

"Rido Kuran!" WHAT THE HELL! Kaname's thoughts were in turmoil, he knew Rido had escaped death at his hand all those years ago, but he hadn't expected to see him again so soon!

"Yes, nephew, Asato especially requested that I could come and act as an adviser for you!"

Rido turned to the council

"I'm sure my dearest nephew is simply having a little rebellious stage that has lead him to foolishly have a relationship with that Level D hunter. I'm sure he will soon see the sense in this marriage. However I am tired tonight, I can not advise Kaname well tonight, could we continue the meeting the day after tomorrow, when I have rested properly. I have travelled a long distance and it was on short notice Asato."

"Of course Rido – Sama, for tonight the meeting is closed. We will resume the meeting in two nights time, when it can be best approached. Until then, Rido – Sama, Kaname –Sama and of course Sara – Sama, I will see you all the night after next in this meeting room."

Kaname's pov

Damn Rido! I bet he is fine and only said he wants to prevent the meeting for a few days, because he knows that I need to go back and feed Zero. He is trying to make Zero fall into madness, so he can be disposed off, just thinking about it makes me feel sick. Unless Asato had planned this with Rido all along, he was awfully accepting of the postponing of that meeting. I mean Rido may be a pureblood, but Asato didn't even show ANY annoyance which he usually would have done. I suppose to them it all works out fine, they can kill to birds with one stone. Zero falls into madness, they can then eliminate him (or have the hunter association do it) with a clear conscience, and so there will be nothing to stop me marrying Sara, thus continuing the sanctity of the purebloods. I need to figure out what to do!

The next day (or night, depending on how you see it)

"I'm sure you will agree Kaname that this marriage is for the best, you can not surely wish to jeopardise all that is currently yours for the taking by a relationship with a Level D, for a start he can't even be stabilised because his master is gone, so will die in a few years even if you provide him with pureblood – which is a crime – and is a hunter, you never know when he could double cross you and go to the hunter association, on the other hand you could always simply make him into your slave! At the moment you are ripe to become the leader of the Vampire Senate, you are already one of the most influential pureblood vampires, you could become the most influential pureblood vampire. Marrying Sara will allow this, continuing a relationship with that hunter will only cause people to doubt you and look to other purebloods to swear allegiance to."

"So it all comes down to power, how very like you Rido."

"Vampires live for power, it is why a vampire does anything, my dear little Kaname. Marry, fight, it is even why we take the blood from humans. I was sure that my useless waste of space brother and sister had at least taught you that, then again considering that they were all for co-existence it shouldn't surprise me. Appears they were more of a waste of space than I thought, to have not taught you that. By the way how is my dear little niece, still a human I take it for you not to already be married of to her, or at least betrothed."

"You leave her alone, she is nothing to do with this."

"Sore spot eh? I think she has everything to do with this, if she were back to a vampire then you two would be betrothed in seconds. How about telling me where she is, let me pay her a visit, as an uncle of course - family bonds and everything."

Kaname's pov

Finally you have dropped the façade, I know that you want Asato to believe that you are the wonderful caring uncle too the poor orphaned pureblood, who you so unfortunately couldn't care of, so the job was given to him (him being Asato). And yeah right like I would ever let you know where Yuki is! I know full well what would happen if it returned her to her vampire self which is why I have no intention of doing so, and I know if you knew where she was she would be a vampire in the blink of an eye.

Normal pov

"Never mind, Kaname. I have a feeling she just might be at Cross Academy. Am I right? Also your so called lover is there as well. Wondering why I haven't gone and returned her to her true self yet, and disposed of that hunter? That is for me to know and you to find out. I come when least expected, when I can most likely get away with it."

Normal pov

Kaname returned to his room, Rido had given him some food for thought. He needed to think this over and try to come up with a solution before the meeting which was being held in just 24 hours.

Kaname's pov

Rido was creepier than I remember him, and what was with the whole 'I come when you least expect it' also why would us expecting it the least let him be more likely to get away with it? In fact what is it? I guess it is returning Yuki back and killing Zero. I need to go back to Cross Academy! I guess my hunch was correct though, Rido is fine he just want to keep me away from Zero. I hope Zero's able to hold on until I can get back.

Cross Academy

So far Zero was flipping between okay and completely not okay, yes he was taking way more blood pills than was probably good for him, and that was if he was a normal stabilised vampire (even if he was just stable at level D), considering he wasn't and couldn't really stomach the pills – to say he was having a bit of a rough time would be an understatement.

"Cough, cough. Damnit White Lily why is Kaname taking so long? I need him to come back, and soon, for more…" The last words Zero uttered were lost in him retching into the straw in white Lily's stall.

White Lily's pov (a.n. is it odd to do the pov of the horse?)

I am not all to pleased to have my bed with sick in it, especially since the sick had blood. But since it was Zero I'll tolerate it. If it had been that retched little girl child that Zero called Yuki I wouldn't have, I wouldn't really want the other girl child (the new one) that Zero called Alanna being sick in my hay either, but Alanna was much less annoying than the first girl child. At least Alanna didn't seem afraid of me, having Yuki act like she was going to be killed every time she came near the stables, make me feel like I am a problem (a.n. which she is) but I disliked being a problem. It was just that when I first came I felt the presence of a vampire, it threw my senses and now everyone, bar two people - Zero and Alanna – is afraid of me and won't come near, so I get angry and act out even more, which makes them more afraid. I was going to act out when Alanna came to the stables for the first time, but I don't know…it was weird… even when I reared up she didn't run off, she came into my stall and stroked my neck and I just felt calm all of a sudden – like when Zero is there.

Zero's pov

Hum White Lily doesn't look all that happy with me being sick in her straw, I hope she knows I didn't do it on purpose, I look at her, and she nuzzles me with her nose, yep she knows. It is almost as if she is saying 'I know you didn't do it on purpose, so it's okay – but only because it's you' I'd better clean it up though. She won't let anyone else in her stall (excerpt that time with Alanna – what was up with that?) so no one else will clean up.

Normal pov

Zero stood up then immediately doubled over, fighting dizziness. When the feeling passed he slowly moved to the fork and with slow and deliberate movements cleared the messed straw out of the straw, to the mess heap and then put new straw down. This took a large portion of his energy, but Zero knew he really should go back to the dorms he would only get scolded for spending the night in the stables.

"good night, girl. I'll se you tomorrow"

With that said Zero turned and left the stables being sure to shut the door behind him, he was a making slow progress back to the dorms when he heard a light cough from behind him, he whirled round then had to catch himself for a moment as nausea over came him. When he was sure anything remaining in his stomach was staying put he straightened up. Alanna was standing there surveying him.

"WHAT! You sacred the crap out of me, sneaking up behind me!"

"Sorry, I didn't mean to! I thought you'd notice that I was following you, you are a hunter and a vampire, when you didn't I had to let you know!"

"Why were you following me?! and how long have you been following me for?"

"Are you okay Zero you look pale, if you are feeling unwell I could go and get the nurse. I don't think Headmaster Cross would be much use, he'd just go flapping round going on about 'his poor baby being ill' and get into a total panic."

"I'll be fine after I've slept a bit. Your idea of Cross is spot on the mark though." Zero said when he was ill a few years ago, and it was pretty much as Alanna had described

"That's because 'been there, done that, brought the t-shirt' so to speak. But that's besides the point….I heard you throw up in the stables…are you sure your okay Zero…vampires aren't meant to get sick."

"Normal vampires aren't meant to get sick, rapidly degrading Level D vampires can. I suppose you might as well know. If a level D vampire doesn't have a blood source, they can rapidly degrade."

"I know that! But…doesn't Kaname…I mean…surely, if your together, then he'd feed you? And I thought if they have a blood source they can stomach blood tablets for a little while"

"Yeah…he does, but in case you hadn't noticed, Kaname is away on Senate business right now. And I thought I was stomaching them, I held them down for a few days, but my body just won't take them. Maybe I spent to long as a human or something."

"So you need a blood source now then? Who did you go too before you were with Kaname then? Yuki or headmaster Cross? I'm sure he would be happy to oblige for his darling little son!"

"As if I'd go to Headmaster Cross! I bit Yuki a few times. I vowed never again though! Between you and me her blood isn't that great actually. I mean I know you're not a vampire or anything, but imagine something which doesn't taste good but you have to eat to survive that's what her blood was like. I'll wait it out, if it gets too bad I'll just lock myself up in my room till Kaname gets back. Don't let Yuki know though she'll only come and try and force me to drink from her, and in this state I could kill her!"

Alanna sighed and watched Zero head for the male sun dorms. She hated watching him suffer, there was a way to stop it she knew, but it could cause more pain and more suffering in the end. "I wish some one could tell me what to do! I hate seeing Zero like this! She breathed out into a the cool night air. She guessed what was going on was unavoidable Zero was getting closer and closer to 18 years old, she knew she had to act quickly…if she didn't it would be the end…and by Zero's condition, it would be the end for both of them! "Now Kaname is involved I don't think I can wait much longer! I just don't know how to explain it all to Zero, so he understands though!"

Crack! Crack!

"Did you mean Zero Kiryu, by any chance!...little girl!"

Alanna jumped turning round, to face two dark robed figures. Both towering above her. She could sense that they were vampires, about level C, or possibly low level B.

"Who are you?! And what do you want!"

"We don't have to answer you! We have come for the other two guardians, a Zero Kiryu and a Yuki Cross! We are here on the orders of our master!"

"You will answer me!" Alanna knew the powers she kept such a tight hold of were beginning to slip and she could feel that they were itching to be used.

"We answer no one but our master!"

"You will answer me if I ask! WHO IS YOUR MASTER!?" Yeah her hold had slipped, definitely slipped

The first (and closest to Alanna) masked figure, was now a smouldering heap of dust, a faint lingering violet glow clung to Alanna's fingers.

"I will ask once again, WHO IS YOUR MASTER!?"

The second figure felt like he was being strangled. "Rido…Kuran…" he managed to breath out and that was his last breath. Alanna knew what she wanted and he fell into ash.

Alanna stood in the clearing as the dust and ash blew away on the wind, which had sprung up from no where, whipping her hair and skirts around. She was angry with herself for failing to hold onto her powers and for failing to realise that danger was as close as it was. As Zero grew older, and the level E grew stronger, the powers grew to have a stronger hold on her. She knew now that leaving alone now Zero was not an option. The fact that Rido was back on the scene just proved that even more. At this rate another incident was imminent, but this time it would be worse than before, she might even wipe out half the world! They would have a field day! Alanna shivered, a chill running down her spine at the thought, never mind explaining to Zero, she just needed to sort out the whole mess! As soon as I get Zero by himself I'll sort it out! Alanna told herself.

However Zero was as good as his word. For the next week Zero was missing from all his classes, change over's and patrol's. Yuki was mussing to Alanna.

"Maybe he had to go away on a hunter mission? I don't think it's due to blood shortage, because the headmaster isn't flapping about everywhere!"

"Maybe…" Alanna said softly and quietly

Alanna wished Kaname would hurry up and come back. She knew she had to okay everything with him first really. And she wanted to know if he knew anything about Rido's reappearance. Though truth be told, she was wondering why he hadn't come to the academy himself after his lackeys hadn't reappeared. It was making her feel uneasy and on edge.

Vampire Senate

The reason Rido hadn't done anything about his lackeys was that as yet he didn't actually know! He had been planning on teleporting back to his manor (where he had sent the lackeys from) but he didn't want Kaname to know what he was up to. Therefore the only way to get back to them was to have an excuse to be missing for the day. If it was just Asato and the other council members it would be no problem. But Kaname was watching him like a hawk, when they weren't in meetings. Also the meeting were running all day everyday, just as they had been for now, which was two weeks since he had arrived. Part of Rido was extremely pleased the longer he kept Kaname away from Cross Academy, and especially that level D hunter, the better. But he would have liked to find out if his servants had done as he asked, so he could prepare the 'surprise' he had in mind for Kaname, then he would have no qualms about marrying Sara and he could put his own plans into action.

Kaname was sure Rido was up to something. Rido seemed to be prolonging the meetings as much as possible. Whenever he could begin to waffle on he did, and Asato had made little attempt to stop or halt him. Whenever Kaname tried to interrupt his uncle he was told he 'should listen to his uncle's advice and expertise. He should be grateful he had such a caring uncle, which wanted to help his young ill-informed nephew.' If only they knew his uncles true nature! Though on second thoughts he supposed the majority of the council wouldn't care, it had become so corrupt. Because Rido was defiantly up to something, Kaname had decided to watch him when they weren't in meetings. This had the added advantage of staying away from Sara, it was bad enough that he had to suffer her in meetings he didn't want the little free time he had being polluted by her as well.

He was just glad that Asato had mentioned that today's meeting was the last one for now, and as of that evening he would be back at Cross Academy. A solution hadn't been reached but it was pretty much decided that marrying Sara would be postponed at least until the Christmas holidays from Cross Academy, so it could be properly celebrated as a pureblood weeding of this standard would require at least a week of celebrations. Also after that Sara would be attending Cross Academy with Kaname, however she had mentioned that she wasn't able to attend until then. (A.n. it is currently half way through October in the story) Kaname had a sneaking suspicion that the council was planning of disposing of Zero, but needed the time to do it. This was the real reason for the wedding being post phoned.

Cross Academy

Normal pov

Since he and Kaname had been together, Zero had vowed never to drink from someone else again. Kaname's pureblood had been keeping him mostly stable, never mind that each time he had to take more and there was less time between each feeding session, Kaname never minded. Kaname had had to go away on senate business, he had considered taking Zero with him, but Zero said he would be fine, it was only a few days. Also having Zero with him would only cause trouble, at the time Kaname had hesitated but know in reality he didn't have a choice, he couldn't take Zero with him, so had left Zero at Cross Academy. Now however the business was taking over 2 weeks and Zero was suffering, he couldn't stomach the blood tablets and needed blood desperately.

Zero had spent the all the time, since he had talked to Alanna, shut in his room. However he was starting to go slightly mad from this. He needed to get out if the room. Night was falling and Zero had had a call from Kaname who was driving back to Cross Academy and so would be back soon. He decided that it would be safer near the night dorms away from the day class also he could wait for Kaname there. Convinced that all the day class would be in the dorms or around the front entrance to the night dorms and the night class would be in lessons, Zero decided to head for the night dorms

Also Zero didn't want to be near anybody as he felt like he could attack at any moment, getting out of the day class dorms and going to wait for Kaname seemed to most sensible option. Meanwhile Kaname was heading back to Cross Academy, he was sure Zero would desperately need blood now. He had given Zero a call from his limo to let him know that he would be back soon. Zero hadn't sounded to well, they had been stuck in traffic by the town due to an accident, but they were back on their way now. Kaname decided to ring Zero once more to make sure he was okay. However he received no reply, this was because Zero had headed off for the night dorms – without his mobile. Kaname informed the driver to step on it, panic was starting to get to him, he was getting worried for his mate.

Zero staggered round the side of the stables towards the woods, in the direction of the back entrance to the night dorms. He had just reached the woodland when he felt someone approach him.

"Zero are you okay? You don't look so good, do you need blood?" it was Alanna who had approached and was questioning him. Zero growled in frustration, his fangs already apparent, eyes clouded red with blood lust. He hadn't attacked her last week but his control was weaker now, hanging on to his sanity by a hairsbreadth. Zero growled out "Leave – go away Alanna!"

"But Zero I want to help!"

"You can't help, no one can, not now"

Alanna ignored him and stepped closer, her blood was like a siren's call. Zero was unable to control himself and lunged at her, intent on piercing her neck with is fangs, the level-E in him rearing its ugly head, ready to drag him down into insanity.

Zero sighed in satisfaction at her sweet blood flowing into him. Alanna drew him closer, pulling his silver head into her. Zero drank deeply, till he realised something, her blood Alanna's blood was…not like any human's. It was like a pureblood's blood, the purest vampire blood. Before he could ponder any more he realised Alanna was speaking words, in a language he had never before heard. Suddenly a huge outflow of power shot up from the pair, dark violet streaking up like flames.

Momentarily blinded by the flash Zero staggered slightly. Un-attaching himself from Alanna, he nearly fell. Alanna grabbed his arm.

"Zero! Zero! Are you okay! Please say this wasn't a mistake!" Alanna seemed to be directing the last part to herself.

"Ugh…Alanna…?" Zero managed he was surprised, what exactly had just happened?

"Oh thank goodness your okay!" Zero was even more surprised to suddenly have Alanna fling her arms around him, hugging him as if her life depended on it.

Zero began to pay attention to his feelings and was shocked his thirst was completely gone, he felt normal with absolutely no thirst at all, like he wasn't a vampire any more. Slowly shaking he raised a finger to his teeth moving back from Alanna. He ran his finger over his teeth, yep he still had fangs so he was still a vampire then. Despite having just run over to him, supported him and then hugged him, as if she was bursting with energy, she looked exhausted. Yet Alanna still managed to look better than before for some reason, she looked like she did before she had fainted as cross over a month or so ago, as she'd never been quite right since then.

In Kaname's limo

The power which had just shot through the earth hadn't gone unnoticed by Kaname. They were getting closer to Cross Academy but they hadn't arrived yet.

"Stop the car!" Kaname commanded, the minute the car stopped Kaname leapt from the door. Standing out side he said "Take the car back to the Academy. I will travel by teleportation." Before dissolving into bats and shooting up into the night sky. He hadn't wanted to do this, for one it alerted his driver that something was wrong. It also made him seem less in control. But something big had just happened at Cross Academy and Kaname was worried it had something to do with Zero. Please let Zero be okay! Please say he hasn't gone into bloodlust, or on the rampage! Was running through Kaname's mind, the last thing he wanted was to find that Zero had fallen to Level E.

Back at the clearing

Zero didn't have clue what just happened. He knew he had bitten Alanna, there had been power and that he was still a vampire. Apart from that he was at a loss. The only person who knew (or might know) what had just happened was Alanna.

"What happened just then?" he asked her again.

"Oh Zero! I'm so happy!" Zero could see she was crying – though he had no idea why.

Then before Zero could process anything else, and inky blackness enveloped him and he fainted, sinking to the floor with Alanna struggling to support him. It was at that moment Alanna felt the presence of another vampire and turning round, her eyes met Kaname's.

"…Kaname…Kuran…"

Alanna's pov

Shit! Kaname has arrived back to find Zero fainted on me with bite marks on my neck! There is no way he will be pleased his mate bit someone other than him and has now fainted!

Normal pov

"Kaname I can explain! I know this looks bad, but really…well you'll understand once I have explained! I promise!

Far from Cross Academy

In the long since forgotten caves

Kaname wasn't the only one who had felt the power, Celium rushed into the throne room.

"Umbra – sama! It was her! The power we felt just now, that was her! She has broken the curse and returned the powers! We MUST have been wrong – they weren't all destroyed by that vampire one of them MUST have survived! I know we thought it impossible until a month ago, when I detected the presences but we weren't 100% sure. I am now!"

"slow down, and take a breath Celium!" a cold voice ordered "What are you talking about?"

"You know the power we felt just now, which came from the very earth itself?"

"Yes"

"That was her!"

"How can you be sure?"

"Oh, come on Umbra – sama! How many creatures out there posses that sort of power! ONLY she could draw powers from the earth itself! That's how she has lasted so long! Se has been holding some of the powers in the earth. If we had know this before we could have tracked her down."

"Is it not still possible then?"

"Doubtful, all the power traces are gone. However there is one good thing. Now we know that they are together. So when we find her we will get them both, possibly even him as well. His powers were used taking him to the same location. I'm not completely sure where it is, but I have an idea. If I describe it I'm sure Rido will know exactly where it is. It looks like he might be a bit more useful then originally planned!"

"Rido did mention that his nephew was most likely with her! As soon as he gets back to us check the area you have discovered with his nephew's location. Then we can set out to claim back what is rightfully ours. Hopefully we shall get some fun too! I am quite looking forward to getting her. She will make the best edition to my collection yet! If we get both it will just be an added bonus!"

"Remember last time you sent someone to catch her though. When you would have disposed of the rest of them, until that vampire did it for us? Remember, she escaped using her powers! That was nine years ago. She is an adult now so she is most likely stronger!"

"While that is all true Celium, this time it is I that will go. In fact we shall all go. The humans and vampires have ruled this world for too long! If we don't go and gain power our race is doomed forever. Surely you remember the good old days, back when wars raged and power was ripe for the taking. We could simply glide over and take spirit here or there and no one was any the wiser! Our race prospered! The creation of the hunters stopped all that. The wars stopped and peace covered the world. We have been growing ever weaker since then! She and he are the last descendants of those who took our power from us! We can remove them, gain power and bring our race back to its prime! All in one fell swoop! We shall restore it all to its former glory!"

Umbra walked round the throne room to the back where the many many coffins of far weakened members of his clan lay, until the power to bring them back was gained. He sighed as he looked over them. What he was going to do would bring them back, he wouldn't be stuck with just Celium forever!

"When she escaped last time it was a minor set back. It has worked in our favour eventually though! She will not escape this time. So come on Celium, contact Rido, the sooner the better. Then we can put our plans into action!"

"As you say Umbra – sama."

Celium left the throne room, sighing. When he got going there was no stopping him. She wished she shared his enthusiasm. When she had first brought in Rido it had seemed like a good idea. But she had a feeling that he knew they were going to double cross him and she felt like he was set on derailing their plans. Umbra didn't seem to understand this, but he had never been able to sense auras as she had. She hoped it would go as planned.

End of chapter

So finally things are starting to happen! Did anyone guess what Alanna really was, and what has happened with Zero? The full explanations and the words Alanna uses are given in the next chapter.

Also we are starting to see a little bit more about Umbra and Celium (which wasn't originally planned for this chapter, they weren't even going to be mentioned. But the chance was there for them to go in and they will play a vital role in the coming chapters – it just depends how much goes on in each for when they will become key players) I hope people are still enjoying this and aren't too confused. When Umbra and Celium become key players then all from the previous chapters (including this one) will be revealed.
