Conner at school
"C'mon Cole just leave me alone!" Pete yelled, trying and failing miserably to stand up for himself
"Ahh great, seriously?!" Conner muttered in frustration. He started making his way over to the two of them.
"Hey everyone, since this guy loves Superman so much, how about we all watch him fly like Superman too?" he yelled at the crowd of onlookers to "hype" them up. He picked up Pete and started walking over to the nearby river.
"Put him down Cole!" Conner triumphantly yelled.
This sudden outburst caught Cole by surprise,"What are you his boyfriend or something?" he asked upon turning around.
"Well I'm not the one manhandling him now am I?" Conner retorted snidly
The smile on Cole's face slowly evaporated and became a scowl,"Oh so you're a comedian now? Don't make me put you in your place in front of all these people Connie."
"See, that's another thing. The fact that you seem to keep envisioning me as a girl is pretty creepy, and not doing much to make you look manly in this situation."
Cole hastily put down Pete and walked a few inches closer to Conner,"Look punk. Just because we're on school property, doesn't mean I won't send you home with a limp right here, right now. So I suggest you shut your smart mouth and get away from me."
"He's right Conner, let's just go." Rebecca suddenly pleaded shortly after her arrival.
"Well what do we have here? Becky Lang is coming to the rescue of Connie White, how cute."
Conner looked back and forth between the two of them before sighing and walking away
"Yeah that's what I thought punk, you have no guts...you're spineless!" Cole taunted behind Conner's back
Conner and Rebecca walked away until they were out of earshot. Conner stopped walking and looked away from her,"I had it handled you know"
"I'm sure you did Conner, but I just didn't want to see you do anything stupid, especially at school."
Her comment made Conner's temper rise even more,"So what...standing up for someone weaker than me is stupid? Thanks Becky, I sure feel better now, what would I do without you?" he said coldly. He looked up at her and saw that she was upset by what he said, "Look I'm sorry okay? I just...I don't know. I've been feeling so out of place lately."
Rebecca calmed down a bit,"Yeah I've noticed. Is that why you haven't been returning my messages?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I don't want you to think I'm ignoring you...well I am, but not like that...dangit...hold on let me say that again."
The way he was tripping over his words made Rebecca laugh in amusement,"It's okay I understand. I mean you just turned eighteen not too long ago. This is a big moment in your life. I mean, discovering more about who you are and where you belong, it's tough believe me. Just promise me you'll always remember that I'm here for you okay?" she smiled warmly
"I promise." he smirked,"
The bell rang and everyone piled inside the school.
Later on, Conner went to his locker. Everyone seemed to be talking louder than usual as they scrambled through the hallway to switch classes, well most of them anyway. As he turned the dial to enter his combination, he started to realized that he could hear every click vividly, as well as everything being said around him, right down to the last decibel. Some students were talking about there weekend plans, others discussing which member of One Direction they thought was cuter, he could make out every conversation in great detail even if was being whispered. Was his hearing just better than usual today or was he simply imagining it? He shook it off as just momentary insanity, I mean after all, nobody in this school seemed to be too good at being discreet. He shut his locker and walked away just as the warning bell started ringing."AAAHHH!" the bell's unusually loud ring was like a thousand jackhammers being played in surround sound inside of Conner's head. He struggled to regain his composure as every other sound immediately started traveling through his ears simultaneously at high frequencies for what seemed like an eternity. The bell stopped ringing and Conner looked around at the crowd of students watching him nearly pass out,"Ummm...hey everyone, what's up?" he nervously said before hurrying off to class, every step filled with questions.
A/N: Okay everyone, I'll update this soon enough :). I have my ideas for where I want to take the plot from here, so just leave me your thoughts and/or criticisms for my chapters so I can fix the story as I go along. This is my first fanfiction so please go easy on me haha!
