Landon Luthor's Mansion
C'mon in boys. Make yourselves at home. Can I get any of you something to drink?" Landon casually asked as he hosted his employees into his living room.
"Let's just get on with the arrangement shall we?" one of them spoke up, unamused by Landon's pleasantries.
Landon faked a frown,"You guys are no fun. Okay fine, shall we?" he pointed to a hallway leading past his bar, which the other men proceeded to follow him down. They then came to a stairwell and started descending it."This mansion has been home to three generations of the Luthor family. It all started with my grandfather Lionel, rest his soul. Without him, this company just might not exist and my father would have been born a common man. Ohh the horror!" Landon stopped at the bottom of the steps and pulled a keycard out of his suit jacket,"Gentlemen...prepare to enter into the new age!" he unlocked the door, opened it up, and turned on the lights.
The other men looked around in amazement,"Is all of this your father's work?"
Landon nodded, his arrogance practically going through the roof,"You betcha! Well I contributed too." he boasted,"I've spent the past few years looking into some of my father's projects. Only the really cool stuff of course. I made a vow that I would learn everything I could about his company, his legacy. Amongst all of that, however, there was one project that stood out to me more than anything else...but you obviously know this or I wouldn't have brought you here."
"That's right Landon. So now that you have us here, why don't you quit stalling and get to the point already?"
Landon laughed as though he had just been told a joke,"I love you guys. You sure know how to brighten up a guy's day you know that?" he turned around and his fake smile dissolved,"Brace yourselves." he walked a few feet over to large case covered up by a metal door. In a blur of key pressing, Landon entered a series of passwords which caused the door to open, revealing a hulking mass frozen in a cryogenic chamber.
"MOTHER OF..." the men blurted out in utter shock, trying to find the words but failing miserably.
After several moments of swallowing hard and gasping, one of them spoke up,"Is that...?"
"Yes indeed Roger, it is."
"But...how? I don't understand."
"I didn't expect you to, but I assure you that what you are seeing is indeed real." Landon stared proudly at the being that stood before him-Superman!
"I thought his body was stolen by Cadmus not too long after his funeral?"
"Who do you think funded the program?" Landon answered
Everyone was silent for what seemed like months,"Okay this is insane! Start giving us some answers, now!"
Landon turned around,"I can't speak for my father Sir, so I won't try. All I know is that right here encased in this very chamber lies the genetic code for the next step in human progress. He" Landon pointed to Superman's lifeless body,"He had his chance and he failed. It sickened my father- all these weak minded fools offering their praise and gratitude to a bunch of misfits like they were sent from the Gods to save the world and take it to a new level of peace and order. Well they didn't seem to powerful when that...beast tore Metropolis apart and blew it halfway to kingdom come now did they? Oh yeah, the Justice League are the new symbol of hope, peace, and security. Yeah right! The world saw them fail most of an entire city. Funny that it took all of that for people to come to their senses." Landon paused,"With all due respect gentlemen, I simply refuse to prolong this any longer. I've given you all of the evidence that I can, I've made my argument time after time again. We literally have the keys to the future right here in front of our very eyes. We can finally achieve the dreams that we've all had. We can build a better world. It would be criminal to deny the world of this opportunity." Landon slowly paced to the other side of the room and turned around, seemingly weighed down by the weight of his thoughts,"The ball is in your court guys, how about we finally take the winning shot?"
A/N: Okay everyone, I know it's been a while since my last update. I've just been mentally all over the place lately, in addition to just enjoying NOT being busy lol. I updated chapter 2 a tiny bit, as well as added a tiny subplot about an erupting solar flare to offer a practical reason for why Conner's powers basically go from 0 to full force (It's in the original Son of Superman story so it's not anything original). I might connect it to something happening in space (A la possibly one of Superman's old enemies' ships or something, but I'm not sure yet. I'll keep up with this as I sort it out, so who knows when the next chapter will go up. Until next time, thanks for reading and Happy New Year :)
