Disclaimer: I don't own The Outsiders

AN: Sorry this chapter took so long but schools been a huge pain. The good news is that I'll have a study hall class soon so I can work on more chapters there! Also, sorry if this chapter isn't the best. I loved the idea for it (thank you JustObsessed for this chapter idea) and I wanted to do another Darry/Pony chapter because I was unhappy with the first one. If this one doesn't turn out as good as I hope it's because I have absolutely NO clue what goes on in a construction or roofing company (I don't remember which one Darry does I think it's roofing) all I know is that they roof houses and I didn't feel like researching it so it's half Pony at work with Darry, half bonding time. Okay I don't want to bore you anymore so here's the chapter.

Ponyboy looked ecstatically out of the window of his oldest brother's car. Today was the day he had been waiting for. It was bring your kid to work day and he had been counting down the days ever since Darry told him about it. He watched in amazement as the car drove by the construction company and pulled into the parking lot. He'd spent hours on end thinking about what it was like for Darry and now he would finally get to see it for himself.

As Pony crawled out of the cars back seat, he grabbed onto Darry's hand as he escorted his baby brother inside to clock in. His excitement grew with every step they took. The building looked so much bigger now that he was closer to it. Nothing in his imagination could ever compare to the real thing.

They were greeted at the door by one of Darry's coworkers and, who Pony assumed was his daughter. The two exchanged a few words with each other, with the two young children looking on becoming more and more bored. Ponyboy took this time to look around the building. The inside was even larger than the outside, everything was spic and span, and there were loads of people and children all over the place. Darry, once again, grabbed his brother's hand and led him away.

Once again, Ponyboy turned his attention back to his surroundings. He had a good idea on what his brother did. He remembered the previous night when Darry explained to him what exactly his job was. Even though he was sure that Pony could find fun on his own if necessary, Darry still brought books and toys for him to distract him with so he didn't get in anyone's way or, worse, hurt.

About half an hour later Darry strapped Pony in his car seat and put all of the supplies, roofing bundles and a ladder, that he'd need for the day in the very back of the truck. Then he finally got in and drove off to their designation.

It wasn't a long drive, which Darry was happy about since he usually had to drive thirty minutes or even an hour to get to a house. He was also happy about the fact that he didn't have to go into Soc territory, they were going to a house that belonged to a middle class family.

When they got to the house Darry first set up his ladder and roofing bundles and then he went to get Pony out of his seat. As expected, he ran around as soon as his feet touched the ground. The house wasn't as big as Darry had thought it would be, which he was grateful for since it would be safer for his little brother.

After about ten minutes of just running around Pony finally became bored so he pulled out all of the toys that Darry brought for him, scattering them all over the yard, causing Darry to sigh. He was glad that whoever lived here wasn't home.

Only a little while later did Pony glance up to see his older brother carrying three roofing bundles.

"Darry!" Pony's voice startled him a bit, but he kept his hold on the bundles as he turned to look at his brother. "Soda said that you can only carry two of," he paused for a moment, trying to recall what his other older brother had called the bundles, before he continued, "those!" He pointed at the bundles so Darry would know what he was talking about.

Sighing, he placed them back down. He did remember his other younger brother telling, more like scolding, him about that but he wanted to try and finish up early so he could do something special with his little kid brother. It had been awhile since they spent some time alone with just them without the rest of the gang tagging along. Sure he didn't mind spending time with them too but he almost never got to have quality time with Ponyboy anymore, especially with him starting school.

"Sorry Pone." He flashed his brother an encouraging smile and, still working fast. The young child blinked, then smiled, resuming his game with his toy cars.

Sometime later when Darry finally finished up, earlier than he usually does he happily noticed. He was greeted by his brothers tiny form approaching him.

"Darry are you done yet?" The five year asked, surprisingly for the first time the while day. The eldest Curtis brother wasn't shocked though. He knew a five year old could only keep interest in one thing for so long.

"Yeah Pone. Just let me get everything packed up and we'll go." He laughed as Pony tried to help him move his ladder from its spot, but couldn't since it was too big and heavy. Darry lifted his baby brother up, buckling him in the car, then proceeded to gather up his supplies and toss them in the bed of his truck.

Once he got himself situated in the front he looked in the mirror to glance at Ponyboy, smiling. "What do you wanna be for Halloween Pone?" His little brother smiled. He had been waiting to be asked that all week, even though he didn't have an exact answer quite yet.

Still, he excitedly babbled the first costumes came to his mind such as a pirate, a zombie, a mummy, and even a lion.

Darry chuckled, but hoped he would settle on something quickly. Halloween was only day away and there wouldn't be much to choose from if they lingered any longer. "That's quite a list there, little man. Is there anything specific that you want to be?"

Ponyboy thought about it for a bit, pondering his options before shrugging, his smile still present.

Darry quietly sighed but wasn't in the least bit annoyed. He knew how kids were during this time if the year. Grinning again, he slightly shook his head, not even wanting to begin to think about what he would be in for on Halloween night.

Okay one last quick note.

Is there any specific costume anyone wants Pony to wear for the next chapter? (Which will be up Thursday and will be much longer than this chapter promise.)
