Here's that Dally/Pony fluff I promised. :)
Please excuse any typos. I'm tired (and it's only 3..) and really didn't want to proof read this, I'll read through it tomorrow. The Christmas chapter will hopefully be up by tonight. (I was going to post both of them last night but Fanficton wasn't cooperating.)
Happy holidays!
Disclaimer: I don't own The Outsiders. All rights go to the amazing S.E. Hinton.
Dallas Winston woke up on one Sunday morning, around ten. Ponyboy was still sleeping. The two had stayed up late the previous night watching some movies, of course without Darry's knowledge.
The older male was babysitting Pony this weekend. Darry and Soda and Steve were all at work, Two-Bit had to babysit his sister this weekend. And as for Johnny, Dally didn't know where exactly he was but he assumed he was at the house since he also stayed overnight. Hence, the reason why Dally was babysitting all day on the one day Buck gave him a day off. Not that he minded watching over Pony, he loved the kid like the baby brother he never had.
He slowly sat up and scrunched up his face, feeling something a bit ticklish on his cheek. Touching said spot he ripped a note that had been taped onto his face. "Dammit Soda," he grumbled, knowing he had to have done it, or had something to do with it.
Scowling, Dally quickly read through it seeing that it was only the usual 'wake Pony up, feed him his breakfast, give him a bath, lunch, nap,' etc.
Dally threw it on the table as he walked to the bathroom to get ready for the day. Pony could really just sleep all day if Dallas let him.
Dally took a quick shower, got dressed into some faded jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt. He then fixed his hair up a bit, he didn't care as much about his hair as the rest did but he usually did enough so it'd look tuff, even without grease. The others never understood why he didn't like greasing his hair but they'd never question Dallas Winston. No one would if they were smart, unless they were Pony or Johnny. They were the only safe ones.
After scarfing down some of the left over breakfast, which was surprisingly enough for him to have two servings and still have enough give Pony, he decided to wake Pony up.
"Hey Pone, it's time to wake up," The older greaser said in a special gentle, if it could even be called that, tone reserved for just the young greaser shaking him a bit. Ponyboy didn't even budge a smidge. "Pony, wake up!" Dallas said a little louder as he shook him a little harder. Soon enough, his bright little green eyes popped open and a smile crept onto his face.
"Morning, Dally!" the little one practically shouted, jumping out of bed.
"Morning, Kiddo," He smiled and ruffling his auburn hair. Ponyboy laughed, jumping back onto his small bed, standing up on his tiptoes so he could reach Dally's hair. After he bent down a bit Pony ruffled it just like it had been done to his own.
If it had been anyone else who did that to his hair, combed or not, they'd be dealing with an extremely annoyed Dallas, but he wasn't, of course. He couldn't ever be mad Pony. No one could. Ponyboy jumped off the bed.
"Are you hungry kiddo?" he questioned, picking Pony up as they made their way downstairs and into the kitchen. Pony jumped into a chair at the table and then turned to look at Dally.
"Yup, I'm staaaaarving!" he said in a dramatic tone, that even Dallas Winston had to admit was cute. He chuckled, getting him a plate.
"What do you want to eat?" Even though eggs was what everyone else had he decided to ask if Pony wanted anything else.
"Well, what are you eating?" He questioned back, causing Dallas to raise an eyebrow.
"Umm.. I already ate my breakfast. I had eggs and bacon." Dallas continued, knowing what Ponyboy was just about ask.
"Me too!" Pony smiled as his plate was set in front of him.
"What do you want to drink?" Dallas questioned, already pulling out the chocolate milk.
"I don't know. What are you having?" It was mumbled since he had food stuffed in his mouth but Dally understood him just fine. He briefly wondered why Pony wanted what he was getting but shrugged it off.
"Chocolate milk." Dallas began pouring some it in a cup.
"Me too!" Pony cheered happily, smiling wider as Dally handed him his cup and took the seat next to him.
After we Pony finished eating his breakfast Dally put his plate in the sink. Of course he "forgot" to clean the dishes. Who did he look like? Darry?
"What should I wear today, Dally?" Pony questioned, blinking up at the older greaser.
"Hmm. I don't know, I guess whatever you want...just make sure it's clean," he said remembering the last time he told Pony to wear whatever. Turns out Darry isn't a fan of his baby brother in dirty clothes. Who would've guessed?
"Yay!" Pony exclaimed running upstairs to change. Dallas debated whether or not he should even bother trying to get Pony to take a bath. While he was in the bathroom Pony walked back up to the doorway, peaking in.
Dallas looked at what he was wearing. Pony had on faded jeans and a similar long sleeved shirt, a shade darker than Dallas' own.
"Kinda looks like what I'm wearing, huh?" Dally said with a rare smile.
Pony giggled, grinning back. "That's the point Dally! I wanna be just like you! And Soda! And Darry! And Two-Bit! And Johnny! And Steve!"
Dally couldn't say that he wasn't a little flattered, but he was still confused as to why he would want to be just like them. Then, he figured since he was too young to know what his parents were like and the gang were the ones taking care of him he'd know way more about them like what they do, wear, eat, watch, drink, the list goes on.
Dally lifted Pony up and took him into the living room where he finally took note that Johnny wasn't there. He must've already left, Dally thought.
Dallas gazed back down at Pony, his lips curling upwards. The young boy was gazing upon some of the presents that were already under the tree.
"Dally, can I open a present?" Pony even threw in a sappy pout but Dally paid no heed to it.
Oh no. He wasn't falling for the pout. Not this time.
Suddenly, Ponyboy blinked and squirmed out of Dally's hold and ran over to the table, grabbing some crayons and paper.
Dallas raised an eyebrow at the five year old's antics, walking over to the table.
"Watcha doing Pone?"
"Making presents!" He hurriedly shooed Dally out into the living room so he wouldn't see what he was getting.
Dallas chuckled, thinking about what he wanted to buy Ponyboy. He hadn't went shopping yet, nor was he looking forward to it. He was a last minute shopper. Like Christmas Eve shopping late.
He began thinking about what he could get for Pony. He knew Darry was gonna buy him some clothes. Steve and Two-Bit were getting him some new toys. He had no clue what Soda was getting him, or Johnny for that matter. Dallas assumed just some more toys.
His mind continued to ponder over the many gifts he could purchase for the boy. Such as, jacks, marbles, a jack in the box, a slinky, a mr. potato head, or some toy cars. Soon enough though he settled on the toy cars, thinking that they were the best and tuffest of all of the other options.
Dally walked back into the kitchen when he saw that Pony wasn't drawing anymore. He smiled at Pony as an idea came to mind.
"HeyPony, you wanna go to the store and buy your brothers something to go with those?" he questioned, gesturing to the drawings.
Said boy glanced up at him, eagerly nodding his head and jumping out of his seat.
If it weren't for Dally, he'd be outside without a cost and shoes.
"Unless you wanna catch a cold you might wanna go get your shoes and coat there kiddo," Dally told him with a shake of the head. He swore that kid spent way too much time around Sodapop and Two-Bit.
The older greaser grabbed the items for Ponyboy, letting him put his coat on as he got his shoes on and tied them then out the door they went.
They walked, well Dally walked while he carried Pony, for twenty minutes before they finally got to the store.
"Do you know what you wanna get for them kiddo?" Pony shook his head.
"Well what do they talk about?" Pony blinked before smiling widely.
"Darry likes books!" Dally led him to a book store where Pony picked out the biggest book he could carry. Dallas quickly paid for it, seeing it was some type of mystery book that he didn't care to get the name of.
One down, one to go, he thought to himself.
"Okay Pony. What about that other brother of yours?"
Pony, once again, shrugged. "He likes everything," he said in a serious tone.
Dally knew that was true. Soda wouldn't care what he got, even if it was a dictionary.
"How about we get him a shirt?" He knew Soda didn't like getting clothes as a present but he'd wear it if it was from Pony.
"Okay!" They quickly picked one out and Dally also bought his gift for Pony when he wasn't paying attention.
Currently, they were walking walking around, wasting time before they could go get something for lunch. Just as they walked into another store, Dallas' eyes widened as he saw a familiar face that he definitely didn't want to see.
He grabbed Pony's hand, quickly turning around but the two were already spotted.
"Hey Dal what a coincidence seeing you here, huh?"
Dammit.
"Hi Two-Bit!" Pony greeted him excitedly.
Turning back around, Dally glared at Two-Bit, which went unnoticed by the latter as he was trying to hide his own gift for Pony.
"Yeah.. Too bad we were just leaving." Dally tried to leave again but Two-Bit simply grinned.
"So was I. I was just finishing some shopping," he lifted his bag up for Dally to see. "Can you believe I actually paid for this?"
Ignoring him, Dally sighed. "Don't you have some babysitting of your own to be doing?" He looked back up at Two-Bit, fearing the worst.
"Nope. My Mom came home early and relieved me." Damn.. He should've known.
"So where're we going?"
A sigh and then with reluctance, "Dairy Queen. . ."
"Great. I'm starved!" Pony giggled and nodded.
"Me too!"
"Alright fine you can come Two-Bit but I ain't paying for you."
Two-Bit shrugged and ran passed the two to his car, waiting for them.
A baffled Ponyboy peeked up at Dallas. "What's wrong with him?" he questioned, thinking something was actually wrong since Two-Bit was running.
Dally shook his head as they began to make their way to Two-Bit's car. "No one knows."
Again, sorry for the delay but I was having troubles with the site. And I was going to combine this with the Christmas chapter but I wanted this to be just Pony and Dally. I'll try and post the Christmas chapter tonight. If fanfiction will cooperate.
Anyways, thanks for reading, favoriting, following, and reviewing! Very much appreciated!
