"Look," I say, watching as the shipwreck victims stumble and stomp away. "I need your help…"

"You always need my help," Kaige says, not looking up from writing on her arm. She clicks her pen and swishes her red locks out of her eyes.

I sigh, running my fingers through my new, choppy hair. "We can tell each other anything right?" I ask wearily. If Beyond doesn't swear to not say anything, I might as well get everything out in the open here.

Kaige growls "Get on with it! I have a schedule to keep up with! We're missing the vampires and the witches keep playing pranks on everyone."

I look down at my feet, and I hear Kaige's voice soften, "Alright. Tell me now. What's going on?"

"Well you know that drug? The one you cured me from?"

"I never cured you, Rebel, the symptoms will reappear."

"Right," I say, "don't remind me. But it was sort of the cause of something bad that happened."

Kaige scowls and presses me to continue. "I was in withdrawal, and I traded Ophelia for the drug. And I traded her to Light."

Kaige's expressions range from confusion, to sadness to rage. Suddenly her face gets as red as her hair and she grits her teeth together so hard, I'm afraid she'll brake them.

"What did you DO!" she yells so loudly that the sound actually sends me flying across the room. I land in a pile of boxes and heave a large breath. "You idiot!" she rages. And I think she can smell my fear. "Why did you do that?"

"I told you it was withdrawal!" I plead, looking away from her fiery eyes. Her stare is so intense I think I may blister.

"BULLSHIT! You selfish little piece of crap! You're blaming a drug for a horrible maternal choice!"

I stand up on shaky legs and raise both my hands in surrender. "I need your help to fix it!"

"I don't think anything can fix this, Rebel." She whispers coldly.

Sighing, I march over to her determinedly. "There is something that can fix this. It's the only way I know how. And I need your help to do it."

"Why should I help you?" she spits.

"Because I know that you care about Ophelia. Maybe as much as Stanley does….I know that you don't want to see her hurt."

She shakes her head.

"Kaige," I start, "Why didn't you stay?"

She scoffs. "Why?" she asks, like it's the most obvious answer in the world. "Because of Dreagon. He left me. He was supposed to love me no matter what. That's what brothers and sisters do. And he left, he didn't even say goodbye. I never got to say goodbye to Near…." She trails off and I can feel a lump forming in my throat. She sighs, "And it was too hard to stay where I was when absolutely everyone I cared about left me. Just like…."

A sob builds in her throat and I engulf her in a hug. She sobs in my shoulder and I shush her gently.

She pulls away and wipes her eyes on her sleeve, "We're a lot alike, Rebel. You and I are both screwed up. That's why I'm not judging you for what you've done. But I know a hell of a lot of other people will."

I nod, "That's why I need your help. I have a plan, but I need you to be on board. I need you to trust me, and promise me that you'll try to get everyone back together."

She frowns, and looks at me quizzically. "Ok, fine, I promise. Now what do you need me to do?"

I smile and look her in the eyes. "Kaige, you need to help me die."
