Chapter 11: Undine's Tear
As the group drew further in the room, torches began to light a light blue. Jason looked at them. "Blue fire? Isn't that the opposite of what they want in here?"
Jade nodded. "It may match the color scheme of blue, but it's the hottest type of fire."
Reva ran to the center of the room, carefully scoping the room in case of any enemies. On the other side was a pedestal with a beautiful blue fonstone shaped like a teardrop. "There it is!" She began running to it, the excitement of finding the thing they've been searching for clouding her better judgement.
Emma gasped. "Reva, come back!" She began running after her and Celia pursued.
Cameron let out a heavy sigh. He walked over to Luke and grabbed his wrist. "Let's go."
Luke tried to pull away. "What are you doing?! Shouldn't you be pulling Ethan?!"
The one mentioned tried to rush ahead, but Jason stopped him. Ethan tried to break from his grasp. "What the hell are you doing?!" A large ice wall erected in front of them.
Luke looked back at it. "Great, we're trapped." Cameron let him go and put his hand on his blade's handle, knowing well danger was afoot.
The fonstone glowed a bright blue, and a stream of blue fonons rushed from it, forming the shape of a body. The fonons formed a young woman in an elegant blue gown, and light blue skin. Her long black hair fell down to her waist. "Another group of travelers?"She scoffed. "Well, you made much more progress than the others."
Celia stepped forward. "I'm sorry for disturbing you…"
She sighed. "My name is Undine. You seek possession of my fonstone, correct?" Undine held a hand up. In front of her, another stream of blue fonons began to form a shape. "If you are, you'll have to prove your strength." She put down her hand, and the fonons formed a large golem of ice. "This is Hrimthurs. You are to defeat him if you wish to possess my fonstone."
Behind the wall, Jade crossed his arms, intruiged by the current situation. "Interesting…"
Tear looked at him. "What is it?"
"These four are unaware of each other's fighting styles. They won't be able to work in tandem and build a good chain of attacks." The large golem began stepping towards the group.
Cameron stepped to the front of the group, blade drawn. "Girls, get in the back."
They did as he said, but Reva remained, and Luke joined him in the front. "What's the plan?" The question caused the man to chuckle. "We aim for the legs. Try to make it topple."
Luke nodded. "Alright. Demon Fist!" The projectile fired off towards Hrimthurs, hitting its foot, chipping off a small part. Cameron did the same, but with Azure Edge.
Reva carefully observed the golem, and began running towards it. "This should make things easier." She ran behind it, and, "Meteorite!" she aimed the arte for the back of Hrimthurs' knee, causing it to kneel down. She backed away after she landed. "There." The golem swung its fist around, hitting her into the wall, small pieces of it breaking off on contact.
Ethan cringed. "Reva!" He tried to run to her, but slammed into the wall.
Jason sighed at the young knight's foolish action. "Ce, you know what to do!"
Celia nodded, and began rushing to the injured girl. "Wait!" Reva slowly stood up, using the wall as a support. "I'll be fine!"
She began running back towards the golem. As she ran, something burst from the ground. It was one of the monsters from earlier. "Perfect." She groaned. Cameron and Luke began running to her, for more of the monsters began to surround her. Emma and Celia were left with Hrimthurs.
Celia looked back at Emma. "Do you know what Fields of Fonons are?" Emma nodded. "Alright, I need you to get some fire fields up, okay?"
Emma nodded, and began casting. "Roar, O conflagration, and command this impure soul to their ashen end! Corona Rain!" The small meteor came crashing through the roof, hitting Hrimthurs foot, a chunk of it broke off, and a small white field was left.
Celia smirked, pleased with the results. "Good, we need a few more." She took aim at the golem's arm. "Carmine Buster!" She charged a shard in her pistol, a red light emitting. She fired it at the arm, and a small explosion went off went it made contact.
Cameron ran in front of Reva, blocking an oncoming attack. "Darkness Talon!" He jabbed the monster three times, each hit imbued with the first fonon, or darkness. The monster flew back, and he ran towards another.
Luke observed Celia and Emma. "I'm not sure if it's the same with them, but…" He waited as one of them charged at him. "Devil's Inferno!" He slammed the monster back, shattering it.
"Luke."
He stepped back. "What's up, Asch?"
"The kid."
Luke looked at Reva. It appeared that she had trouble with the monsters."Odd, what's wrong?"
"That's not important right now." Luke nodded, and ran to Reva to assist.
Emma and Celia had done their best to whittle down Hrimthurs. Next to the golem was a red field. Celia noticed it and ran to it. She stood in it, and aimed her pistol high. "Lord of fire, lend me your strength! Carmine Destructor!" She did the same as before, but for longer, and when she fired, she was pushed back a bit due to the force.
The shard pierced the golem's shoulder, and the hole left behind began to widen; Hrimthurs arm shoulder began to melt. Cameron ran over to them. "If we can take out the thing's core, we'll be finished. Let's aim for its chest."
Meanwhile, the others watched as the battle went on. "They're doing better than I thought." Jason stated. The others, save for Ethan agreed.
Ace patted the boy's back, showing a bit of concern. "Are you alright?"
He nodded. "It's just…" He looked at Reva. "She seems kinda sluggish…"
Ace followed his gaze. "True. But, how come you're so concerned?"
He sighed. "She's my captain's sister, and it's my duty to protect her. I can't stand just sitting here."
As he said that, Reva jumped back to dodge an attack, but when she landed, she screamed in pain and fell on her knee. Luke took notice of this and rushed to her, blocking the strike that would've hit her otherwise. "Thanks for doing that, Asch."
He pushed the monster back, and turned to Reva. "You okay, kid?" She ignored him, and he turned away. "I'll take that as a 'no'." He began running off, but stopped.
"What's up?" Luke asked.
"I shouldn't leave her alone like this." Asch stayed near Reva to protect her.
Celia ran around Hrimthurs, shooting it to distract it so Emma could continue creating the fire FOFs, while Cameron fended off the oncoming monsters. "So, how's it going?" Emma finished casting Corona rain once again. "We should be fine."
Cameron glanced over his shoulder, and noticed another fire field. He ran to it, thanking her as he ran. He stood in it. "Flames of hell come forth and torch mine enemies! Radiant Assault!" He did a flaming back flip, and jumped into the wall, then off towards Hrimthurs, and thrusted diagonally, his blade engulfed in flames. He crashed through the golem's chest, leaving a large hole.
The monsters around all turned to it as it began to crumble. Undine, who was smugly watching the battle in the back, snickered. "You're close."
The shards of Hrimthurs formed a larger version of all the monsters. The others crumbled around the new one.
Asch looked around, then at Undine. "For what reason did you do that?"
She smiled deviously. "They were no longer needed." She looked around the group, and stopped at Reva, who was still on the ground. "Hrimthurs, go for the girl." It turned to her and began running, much faster than the others.
Asch barely made it to Reva in time. "Dammit!" He pushed it back. "Sonic Blast!" He slashed at Hrimthurs as it came again, then backed up, and thrusted forward. Hrimthurs flew backwards, but regained its composure quickly.
Cameron ran behind it as it was still recovering. "Tiger Swarm!" He thrusted, then slashed, and repeated the process twice more, a total of six hits. Hrimthurs turned and punched Cameron in the stomach, then threw him towards the wall.
Emma looked at him. "Are you alright?"He nodded.
She began towards him, while Celia supported her from the back. "Spiral Crusher!" She hit it with a spin attack, parts of the earth uprooting and hitting it as she did so. However, she was left dizzy, scrambling back and forth.
Reva looked at Asch. "Hey."
He looked at her. "What is it?"
She tried to stand up. "I want to help out, even if a little. Get me over there."
Asch shook his head. "I thought you didn't like physical contact."
She groaned. "Fine, then."
Asch chuckled. "You're in bad enough shape anyway." He ran off to finish things. "Hrimthurs!" It turned around and began running towards him.
It turned around, and while it was distracted, Cameron rammed into it, sending it flying towards Asch. The two of them ran to it, and stood on its sides. They both drew a circle glyph around themselves. "Power of the gods, come forth!" They spoke in unison, and around their glyphs formed a larger circle. "Dual Deity Assault!" They thrusted their blades into the ground and an intense light emitted from the glyphs, breaking apart Hrimthurs body.
The pulled away the blades, and Undine began clapping. "Well done, mortals. You've proven yourselves. I'll accompany you."
She withdrew back into the stone, and the ice wall retracted back into the ground.
Jason and Celia ran to the pedestal while Ethan ran to Reva. "Are you alright?" She tried to stand, but stumbled, and Ethan caught her. "We'll get it looked at back in town."
Jason picked the stone of the pedestal and looked at it. "This is a fine stone."
Celia took it from him. She took a case out of her bag and opened it. There were seven holes in it, each shaped for a stone. She placed the Undine's Tear in it and held a hand towards Jason, who took the Gnome's Crystal out of his pocket and gave it to her. "I wonder if Gnome is in here, like Undine."
Celia placed it inside and stood. "Let's get going! The earlier we leave, the better!"
Reva trudged out of the clinic on crutches, grumbling as she left. Ethan waited outside, and a large smiled sprawled on his face once he saw her. "Reva!" He ran to her. "Are you okay?!" She ignored him and continued on her way. He followed her. "You're going to Nephry's house, right?" She nodded. He grabbed her shoulder. "They all headed to the h-"
Ethan felt a sharp pain between his legs, and slid down. Reva turned and began on her way. "You know well you shouldn't touch me."
He winced. "I know… but did you really have to do that?"
She smirked and left him. She noticed Emma sitting outside once she arrived. "What are you doing sitting in this cold?"
Emma followed the voice and rushed to her. "I was worried!"
Reva scoffed and went inside, where she found Jason. He walked to her and handed her a card. "You're in room 333 on the 20 floor. Celia, Emma, and Cam are rooming with you."
Reva took the key and began towards the elevator. Jason went towards the spa as she left, where he found Luke. "Hey."
Luke looked at him. "Hey."
Jason walked over to him. "Didn't something happen here on your journey?"
Luke laughed. "Yeah, the 'Naughty Devil' moment." He said, making air qoutes as he said 'Naughty Devil'.
"You pushed him in, right?"
Luke scoffed. "Maybe."
Jason knocked on his head. "Why'd you do it?" He tugged on the towel on Luke's head. "And why are you wearing this?"
Luke slapped Jason's hand. "You have no reason to know, Jay."
Jason 'tsk' ed and left. "Whatever, just don't take too long." He went to the elevator to go to his own room. "I wonder where the others are. I'm sure Ce is in the room,"
He put his hands in his pockets. "Which is conveniently for just the two of us." He tapped his foot as he waited to reach his floor. Once he arrived he went to his room and opened the door. "Celia-"
He found her sitting on the bed, Undine with her. Along with them was a large armadillo like creature, pieces of plate armor on its body. Jason walked over. "What the hell are you doing?" He was curios, but his expression showed no emotion.
Celia gestured to the armadillo. "This is Gnome."
He bowed. "Greetings."
Jason nodded. "You too," He turned to Undine. "You as well, milady."
She smiled. "Thank you, kind sir."
Celia got off the bed. "Gnome is grateful for you protecting him so far."
Jason scratched the back of his head. "Okay? I'm still confused by the big talking armadillo with armor, though."
Undine scoffed. "Who cares if he looks odd to you?"
He walked to his bed and sat down. "Well, excuse me, princess."
She clenched her fist. "What was that?!"
Gnome grabbed her shoulder. "I think it's about time we got back in our stones and slept."
Undine eased and nodded. "Fine."
The two went back inside of their stones, and Celia put away the case. "We should really-" She heard snoring, and saw that he was already asleep. "Oh…" She turned off the light and laid on her bed. "Tomorrow we head back to Grand Chokmah… that's good."
