Chapter 47: Goodbye High School

On Friday, Olivia went back to work and Rae continued to prepare her for finals which were quickly approaching. She went to school as usual and hit the library afterwards to work on some review worksheets for her finals. She and Olivia went back to barely seeing each other with their busy schedules. Really, it was Olivia's busy work schedule that kept them from seeing each other. Rae could always make time where she needed it. Olivia couldn't control when she'd get a call. With Rae starting college next month, they would have to work even harder to manage their time together, especially since she planned on working as well. On Saturday, she took Jimmy to talk to a drug counselor about getting a spot in her rehab program. Charles of course was working, not that he would have helped even if he weren't. Rae was really happy that Jimmy was following through with his promise to get clean. Once, he was sure their was a place for him, he'd talk to his father about it. Later in the day, they met up with Soraya and went out for dinner. When they returned home and Jimmy had gone to bed, Soraya had another talk with Rae. She reminded her about what she'd said about giving too much of herself without getting anything back. She suggested that Rae take her time with going to school and working; that just because she'd always had so much responsibility growing up didn't mean she had to continue that. She was in a position now to take time for herself and enjoy being young. She all but said outright that Rae was only doing this to seem mature enough for Olivia and not because she really wanted to, but she was wrong. Rae couldn't wait to start her college classes and find a job. If she ever decided that it was too much for her, quitting her job to focus on school was always an option. On Sunday, she visited Fordham's campus so she'd be at least a little familiar with it when she started in the spring. She checked out some clubs and met some new people while she was there. It was just like her to make new friends wherever she went. She made plans to meet up with them and hang out over winter break.

Rae had done all the preparing she could possibly do and now it was time to put it to use. She had three finals to take. On Wednesday was Calculus and Lit and on Friday she had Chemistry. She knocked out her finals one by one, confident that she'd done well enough to keep her perfect grade point average. Olivia had the day off on Friday so she was able to drive Rae to school and pick her up. Her last final was during fifth period which meant she could leave early. She was officially done with high school. She packed the last few things she had in locker into her bag and headed outside to Olivia's car. "I am officially done with this place. I'm so glad" she said looking over at Olivia. "Congratulations, honey". Olivia leaned over and gave her a sweet kiss.

Her calculus teacher, Ms. Page, saw her leaving and ran after her. She approached the car and knocked on the window just as Olivia was about to drive off. Rae was confused about why Ms. Page had followed her out of the building to talk to her. She let down the window, "Hi, Ms. Page" she said a bit nervous. What if she was coming to tell her that she'd done poorly on the final and wouldn't be getting an A in the class.

"Hi, Araeyah" she said nicely, "I'm glad I caught you. I wanted to give this to you directly." She handed her a packet that was folded in half. Rae opened it up and saw that it was her final and it had already been graded. Her eyes got big when she saw her score. She looked back up at her teacher, "I got a one hundred percent?" she asked in disbelief. "You did" she said smiling. "I have to tell you what a joy it's been having you in my class this semester Araeyah. You are truly a gifted student. I hope you realize just how gifted you are". Rae smiled and proudly looked at her test again before looking back up to her teacher. "Thank you" she said slightly blushing. Olivia sat in the driver's seat smiling from ear to ear. She was so proud of her girlfriend and it made her happy to hear her teacher speak so highly of her. "I have a couple other things for you" she said pulling out more papers from her bag. "I know you're starting at Fordham in the spring but I really think you should look into these schools." She handed her a folder of papers and Rae looked through them. They were applications to Harvard, Yale and Princeton. "Oh, Ms. Page I couldn't ge..."

"You absolutely can get in to any one of those schools. I've taught AP Calculus for ten years and I've never had a student get a one hundred percent on my final. Do you know why?" Rae shook her head side to side. "Because it is modeled after the finals given to level one Calculus students who attend any one of the universities I've just given you applications to. You're brilliant, Araeyah. There's no doubt about that. You can do it, if you want to." She handed her the last set of papers she had in her hands. "Finally, this is an application to become a tutor here for the high school. I would love it if you'd consider applying as a tutor for my class. It'll look great on your resume later on not to mention you'll get paid to do it." Rae opened her mouth about to protest but Ms. Page spoke again, "Just...think about it, ok?" Rae smiled and nodded. "I do hope you'll keep in touch and let me know how things are going for you, no matter what you decide" she said. Rae nodded again, "I will. Thank you, Ms. Page", she said softly. "You're welcome." She smiled and turned around, heading back inside the school.

Rae raised her window and turned to Olivia who'd been silently listening to the conversation between Rae and her teacher. Olivia was still beaming with pride in her girlfriend and that made the moment a million times better for Rae than it already was. "Ok, so maybe I'm not completely done with this place" she said with a laugh. Olivia leaned over and pulled Rae into a kiss. "Baby, I am...so proud of you" she said. Rae blushed, "Thanks" she said quietly. She kissed her again, allowing her tongue to enter her mouth and caress her own. They were both startled by another knock on Rae's window. She turned to see Officer Petty standing there. She let out a groan and rolled her eyes. He made a motion with his finger, telling her to let down her window. She wanted so badly to ignore him and tell Olivia to drive away but she decided against it.

"Yes, Officer. What can I do for you today?" Rae asked.

"Rae" he said, "who is this?" Araeyah just stared at him as if he hadn't just asked her a question. She'd told him multiple times not to call her by her first name so now whenever he did, she just ignored him. He rolled his eyes, "Ms. Caston" he said correcting himself, "who is this?" he asked again. "None of your business. What do you want?"

"Well, see, it is my business because you're on school property during school hours and school hasn't been dismissed which means you're skipping class" he said arrogantly. "I've completed all my finals and my release form's been signed. So I'm not a student which means I can't be skipping class and we're leaving. So again, who she is is none of your business. I would say it was nice knowing you but it really wasn't so..." she made a motion with her hand telling him to move away from the car. When he stepped back, Rae let up her window again.

"Who was that?" Olivia wasn't used to seeing Rae be so rude. Well, not to anyone besides Charles but he deserved it. "That" she said looking over at Olivia, "is Paul number two" she finished. "Oh" she said understanding know why Rae acted the way she did. "Yeah, if he's gonna be here then I'm so done with this place". Olivia laughed and pulled away from the school entrance and onto the street towards Rae's apartment. They pulled into the parking lot twenty minutes later and Liv parked in her usual guest spot. She wondered if Rae had done something to have this spot reserved for her because it always seemed to be open for her. "Maybe I'll ask her later", she thought. They got out of the car and went upstairs to Rae's apartment. Rae packed a couple of bags with enough clothes to be able to stay at Olivia's for the at least a week. Christmas was just five days away and she didn't know if she should get Olivia anything. Her family didn't really celebrate Christmas but if Olivia did, then she wanted to celebrate with her. She gathered all of her things and they left to head over to Olivia's place. When they got upstairs, Rae went straight to the bedroom. She dropped her bags, took off her coat, kicked off her shoes, and crawled into the bed, getting under the covers and laying down. Olivia walked in and saw her girlfriend in bed and laughed to herself. She took off her coat and shoes and joined Rae under the covers. She reached up and moved the hair out of Rae's face to see that her eyes were closed.

"My poor baby" she said stroking her hair. Rae smiled, still keeping her eyes closed. She moved closer to Olivia and laid her head on her chest while she continued to stroke her hair. After a few minutes, the sound of Olivia's heartbeat had put Rae to sleep. When she woke up, a couple hours later Liv was gone from the bed. She got up and walked out to the living room and saw Olivia in the kitchen. She walked over and saw that she was looking through a bunch of take out menus.

"Hey, you're right on time. What do you want for dinner?" She leaned down and gave Rae a quick kiss. She looked at all the menus and shook her head. Olivia must have eaten a lot of take out before they were together. "Whatever you decide on is fine with me" she said. She was never going to be able to make a decision with all the choices Liv had. "I can't decide. That's why I'm asking you" she said. Rae sighed and thought for a minute. She closed her eyes and randomly put a her finger down on a menu then opened them to see what she'd chosen. "Well, there you have it. Thai it is" she said before going into the living room and sitting on the couch. She turned on the tv and started flipping through the channels. Olivia grabbed the Thai food menu and went over and joined her girlfriend on the couch.

"You should really get netflix" Rae said not able to find anything she wanted to watch on regular tv. She got up and went over to look at Olivia's movie collection.

"What do you want from this place, babe?" Olivia asked. Rae was leaned over on all fours reaching to the back of the shelf for a movie. Olivia felt wetness begin to build between her legs. "Liv" Rae said trying to gain her attention. "Olivia" she said but she still wouldn't look at her. She sat forward and whispered into her ear, "I want to know what you were thinking about". They sat down, filled their plates with food and started the movie that Rae picked for them to watch. They lounged in the living room for the rest of the night and went to bed around eleven thirty since Olivia had to get up for work in the morning.

It was four in the morning when Olivia's phone rang waking both her and Rae. Her phone was on the night stand on Rae's side of the bed. She reached over to grab it from the night stand and groaned when she looked at the caller id and saw Elliot's name. She looked at Olivia who was holding out her hand for her phone. Rae thought about answering it herself but decided not to. She didn't want to cause a fight between her and Elliot so she just handed her the phone. Elliot was about to hang up when Olivia finally answered the phone.

"Hey Elliot, what's up?" Olivia said into the phone. Rae took this opportunity to dish out a little pay back. She ducked under the covers and got between Olivia's legs. She moved her underwear to the side and buried her tongue inside her. Olivia gasped into the phone.

"He didn't give me the address. He said I sounded busy and that he'd just call Fin." Rae liked Fin a lot. She'd spent some time talking to him at Thanksgiving dinner at her mom's house and he was a really cool guy. He told her that he knew she was dating Liv and that he was cool with it. Olivia was his good friend and he could see that she was different, happier now that they were together. Then he warned her like a big brother not to hurt her. "Rae, did you hear what I said?" she asked getting her attention again. "Yeah, I did. I'm...I'm sorry babe but there's nothing you can do if he won't answer. I mean, not unless you wanna call your captain and ask him where you're supposed to be going" she said. Olivia looked at her sideways. "That was a joke" she said softly. Olivia put her phone on the night stand and turned over with her back to Rae. "Aww babe. I'm sorry" she said scooting closer to Olivia, wrapping an arm around her waist and placing kisses on her neck and shoulder. "If you really wanna go then why don't you call Fin and ask him where they are?" Olivia shook her head from side to side and Rae took that to mean that she didn't want to go. "Ok" she said placing another kiss on her shoulder and closing her eyes to go back to sleep.
