Chapter twenty-two
Skylar flew through the trees, her feet barely touching the branches as she needed to push faster through them. She was so late and Tsunade was going to kick her ass if she was late for this but it was the hag's own fault she sent her out on this mission so late.
There were five other familiar signatures in the room she was slowly entering and stopped after closing the door behind her to face the whole council, including the Daimyo and she swallowed.
"You're late… You better not be picking up Kakashi's bad habits." Tsunade warned as Skylar smiled sheepishly and sat down in the free chair between Naruto and Kakashi. "Now, onto the topic of why we're all here." Tsunade said, clapping her hands together with a smile.
"They're the ones you've chosen?" One of the members asked as Skylar sat in silent confusion, only just noticing Kakashi, Naruto and herself were sitting at a completely separate table and she swallowed… This will not end well.
"Yes, it's only fitting that the ones who saved the ninja world twice should be nominated as next in line for the hat." Tsunade said with a smirk and Skylar paled, Kakashi stiffened up and Naruto was practically vibrating in his seat with excitement.
"Oh hell no." Skylar said out, standing up with amusement on her face. "Oh come on… Really? Me, Hokage? I think you've hit your head to many times Tsunade…"
"Shut up and sit down." Tsunade ordered icily and Skylar mumbled with her arms crossed as she sat back down and some of the council members were poorly hiding their amusement.
"We all know who this title belongs to here." Skylar said harshly, changing her demeanour completely which shocked the council. "Naruto has strived for it his whole life and I'm not just saying this because I love him. He's become a strong and independent ninja who managed to make friends with nine uncontrollable beasts since the Shodai Hokage… I'm a no body who suddenly showed up here years ago and I know for a fact that Kakashi doesn't want this but to support his student plus you made me rush here all the way from Suna in this scorching heat just for this when the answer is simple? No disrespect or anything but I flat out refuse to become Hokage because you can't make me." Skylar said childishly, sticking her tongue out with a smirk and crossing her arms before looking away defiantly.
The council room was stunned in silence, even the ANBU in the shadows were silent before Naruto let a slight laugh loose and soon the whole room was in rupture from laughing, including the ANBU. Even Skylar started laughing and sat back down in her seat as Naruto grabbed her hand under the table, a wide smile on his face as he shook his head.
"Well after that childish display I guess we will just HAVE to rule Skylar out of the running." Tsunade said sarcastically because she took her rant to heart. "What about you Hatake Kakashi?" Tsunade asked and Kakashi uncrossed his arms.
"Well I would pull down my mask and stick my tongue out but that would mean revealing my face so I'll do this properly. I turn down the offer Tsunade-sama." Kakashi said with a smirk under his mask and kind of winked at Skylar.
"Very well then. Uzumaki Naruto, you will now be under my little finger, learning to fill your new position properly as the next Hokage… Meeting dismissed." Tsunade waved and the council members began to leave and Naruto began to laugh with Kakashi again.
"Only you'd have the balls to do something like that." Kakashi said, locking her in a headlock and ruffling her hair as she struggled out of his grasp.
"Congratulations." Skylar said after fixing her head and kissing Naruto deeply that left him dazed because things just kept getting better for him that day. "Ramen to celebrate with the team?" Skylar asked and froze as two ANBU members jumped down in front of them.
"Sounds great." Sai's voice said from behind the one mask as he took it off.
"Kiiro's going to be ecstatic." Sasuke said from behind the other mask as he removed it and Skylar gapped.
"Yeah, this all happened since you left to Suna." Kakashi said off-handedly with a smirk behind his mask, leaning back on his chair and onto two legs as he balanced it with easy and Skylar pouted and tried it, only to fall off her chair.
"Amazing… I leave for one month and find everything flipped upside down again." Skylar mumbled half-heartedly as she put her chair back and stood up.
"Nothing stays the same very long when you know us… You should know this by now." Kakashi said as he stood up and followed behind, Sasuke already sent messages to Yamato, Kiiro and Sakura about the meeting at Ichiraku's.
"I'm starting to see that now." Skylar smirked as she nudged her shoulder into Kakashi's arm and Kakashi just laughed.
"So… What are you going to do now since Naruto's going to be busy, Sasuke and Sai are in ANBU and Kiiro wants to be a medic nin?" Kakashi asked and Skylar shrugged, looking up at the little clouds in the sky.
"I don't know… I even heard that Yamato is planning to get his own genin team making our teams officially disbanded… I don't know, maybe I'll help you get a girlfriend or something." Skylar laughed before she tripped, landing face first in the ground, glaring up at Kakashi who was running over the rooftops already.
"Excuse me." Skylar said to the group that had stopped as she got up and dusted herself off. "I have a super perv to hunt down, catch you guys later at dinner." She said, chasing after Kakashi who she could swear could hear him laughing ahead. Naruto Sasuke and Sai all just looked at each other, shrugged and carried on their way.
Skylar wasn't as fast as she use to be since she recovered as she noticed Kakashi getting further and further ahead when an idea popped into her mind… Focusing on one senbon specifically, she flashed to it and landed on Kakashi's back sending them both tumbling into an alleyway. The landed in a trashcan and Skylar screamed before she tumbled out of the alleyway with Kakashi laughing his ass off, a banana peal on his head and still in the trashcan. Skylar shook her head as dirt and trash fell off of it and she shivered.
"I swear something slithered up my leg there." Skylar said with a slight shake to her voice as Kakashi looked at her and dove into her trashcan to look for it and Skylar watched with amusement as things went flying from out of it.
"I think it was this… Poor thing, you scared it." Kakashi said, holding a snake in his hands and petted it gently.
"It scared ME dammit!" Skylar yelled and pointed at it. Kakashi climbed out of the trashcan and shook like a dog as the trash fell off of him and he stepped up to Skylar and offered his hand as she took it and stood up, also looking at the pretty pearly white snake now.
"It looks hurt… Probably because your big ass fell on it." Kakashi mocked and Skylar kicked his ass hard as he jumped with a yelp.
"Let's go see Anko, maybe she can help us." Skylar said, walking off while Kakashi examining the snake behind her.
"How do you know where Anko lives?" Kakashi asked.
"I can sense her remember, now hurry up before she moves again." Skylar said as they broke out into a slight jog. They stopped at a small house and knocked, waiting as shuffling was heard through the house and the door swung open with Kakashi's jaw. Anko was in only a very short towel, still dripping wet as water droplets slide down her skin and her purple hair cascading like a curtain down her back.
"Hey Skylar what's up?" She asked with slight worry and Skylar stepped to the side and pointed to the snake, which Anko immediately snatched up and Skylar closed Kakashi's jaw with a smirk. Maybe setting Kakashi up with someone wasn't going to be as hard as she thought as they were ushered inside to examine the snake with Anko.
Team Kakashi and Team Yamato sat at the counter of Ichiraku's, eating their noodles… Or in Kakashi's case, making them disappear like Naruto was doing as well. They spoke briefly about Skylar's mission and Suna, Gaara and his siblings. Everyone was cheering Naruto and Kiiro on as they had an eating contest and Skylar scooted closer to Kakashi on her left as broth flew everywhere.
"So what are you thinking of doing from now on?" Kakashi asked, calmly eating his noodles since everyone was too distracted by the contest between the two blondes.
"I guess I'll just carry on, enter the jonin exams when they come around again, check out ANBU but now that's Naruto's going to be Hokage he probably won't allow it anyway and probably fight with you over it… Get married, have kids and just live I guess." She said, staring up at the ceiling with a shrug.
"No dreams to accomplish?" Kakashi asked, looking at her with noodles hanging from his chopsticks. Skylar smiled and looked down at her half eaten bowl of ramen.
"Nope… All of my ambitions have been accomplished. Like I said a while ago, I didn't expect to live to want or need to do anything else but I guess it's just you and me for a while?" Skylar said, meeting his confused and shocked gaze.
"I guess ANBU would be a good experience for you." Kakashi said as Skylar choked quietly on her noodles so Kakashi didn't have to drain his bowl and pull his mask up. "Come on, just imagine yourself in an ANBU uniform, walking into Naruto's office and seducing him." Kakashi smirked and Skylar blushed but smirked as well.
"I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the idea pervert." Skylar said and Kakashi waved two fingers with a real smile and an eye smile.
"Anytime… But I guess it will be just you and me for a while, Tsunade likes our teamwork too much to separate us into teams that won't work with us." Kakashi said, drinking down his broth and pulling his mask up and Skylar smiled as she continued to eat.
"Yup, just the two lone rangers." Skylar laughed and Kakashi laughed as well.
"What's funny?" Naruto asked now that their eating contest was over with Kiiro winning. Skylar tried to brush it off but they kept insisting and arguing with each other especially Naruto, Sasuke and Kiiro with Sakura chiming in now and again. This was the way things were suppose to be as Skylar smiled down at her noodles and thought about how her life had changed so much and not likely to change anytime soon if the two teams had anything to say because they would always be together now and again and would face anything thrown at them… Like Kakashi's favourite word:
'TEAMWORK.'
