Klaus held his sword tightly in his hands, watching the camp from a distance. He turned to his side, and smiled at his brothers and Stefan, before motioning to his men to begin their approach slowly.
The sun was nearly setting, and the orange hue from the horizon, signaled that the day was ending on a bloody note.
The men encircled the camp, and with a flash of Klaus' sword in the light, they charged.
Screams could be heard for miles through the forest, and the men in the encampment were in complete shock.
As the soldiers slashed their way through the hired soldiers, only one thought passed through all their minds. This was for their King, their Queen, and their young Prince.
Klaus blocked several advances, and ended up killing most of them. One lonely man staggered back, and Klaus saw in his eyes the same emotion he had seen before in the Crusades.
"Who are you?!" The man shouted, dropping his sword.
Klaus smirked evilly. "Klaus." He stated, darkly.
The man closed his eyes. "Before you kill me, you should know Marcel has someone on the inside." He stated, lowly.
Klaus lowered his sword. "Who?"
He shook his head. "No one knows, but it is a woman." He stated, opening his eyes. "Kill me quickly and with honor." He whispered, with pride.
Klaus raised his sword, and pressed it against the man's throat. "Where is my son?" He demanded, pressing the sword lightly.
The man swallowed, and closed his eyes. "Marcel moves him around. The last time I heard, he was southwest of your castle, about 500 miles, but Marcel never stays in the same place for long. He fears you." He added, without emotion.
Klaus smirked, and raised his sword. "He should. I made him." He stated, darkly. "What is your name?" He asked, wanting to know.
"Alaric. Alaric Saltzman." He replied, proudly.
Klaus lowered his sword. "Damon's friend." He whispered, his eyes widening.
Alaric smiled, and lowered his head. "I was, before he died. Helping you, I believe." He replied, firmly.
Klaus nodded, and tensed with his sword raised, as in a flash Alaric jumped in front of Klaus, taking an arrow in the chest.
Alaric fell to the ground, and Klaus knelt down beside him. "I was honoring an oath, to Damon. Protect his girl." He whispered, as he coughed up blood.
Klaus heard someone come up behind him. He lifted his sword, but lowered it when he saw a bloody Kol approaching him.
Alaric coughed and wheezed. "I have fulfilled my oath." He whispered, turning his eyes to Kol then to Klaus. "Tell Stefan…" He coughed. "Marcel doesn't know about the Bennett girl." He whispered, as he gasped.
Kol bent over him, and glared at him. "What about the Bennett girl?" He asked in a demanding tone.
Alaric choked on his blood. "Marcel has been looking for healers to recruit or kill. He doesn't know about the last Bennett alive." He whispered, looking at Kol.
Kol swallowed, and glanced at Klaus, who was staring at the dying man with a dark gaze.
Stefan ran towards them, looking around them with suspicious eyes. "We got them all, Klaus." He replied, stopping when he saw the man on the ground. "Alaric?" He whispered, kneeling beside the man.
Alaric smiled. "Stefan, I have…" He coughed and wheezed. "I have fulfilled my oath to Damon." He finished, clasping the Captain's hand.
Stefan smiled, and bowed his head. "Damon would be proud."
Alaric nodded, as he glanced at Klaus. "The woman has a mark on her." He whispered, as the blood clogged his throat. "It's a…v." He whispered, coughing.
Klaus nodded slowly.
"You're son is safe. Davina is looking after him." He gasped.
Klaus glanced at Kol. "Who's Davina?" He asked, leaning forward.
Alaric smiled. "Loyal…niece…" He trailed off as he drew his last breathe.
Klaus stood up, and ran his blood soaked hands over his face. He had been so close. So close to finding his son, and now look where he was.
Kol and Stefan stood up and glanced at each other.
"What did he mean about Bonnie?" Kol asked, pointing at Alaric.
Stefan sighed. "Damon knew that Bonnie was the last Bennett. He also knew that it made her dangerous. A lot of people would do anything to kill a Bennett." He explained, painfully.
Kol narrowed his eyes. "She has done nothing, but help people, why would they want to kill her?" He demanded.
Stefan turned his gaze to Alaric's body. "You knew what she was a long time ago, Kol." He whispered, watching Kol nod. "Did you know that Bennetts were also considered witches because of their way with nature?" He asked, watching Kol carefully.
Kol closed his eyes. "I knew they were revered in the gypsy community, and could only be recognized by a v on their back with a small rose in the center." He replied, moving his arm around.
Klaus turned around at the statement. "A v?" He asked, lightly.
Kol nodded. "Yeah, it's a mark given to those in the gypsy clan." He replied, watching Klaus' eyes widen. "Hold on, you don't think that Bonnie would betray the family, do you?" He asked, his anger simmering.
Klaus shook his head. "No, I don't think that, but someone has that mark, and it's someone who told Marcel about Caroline and David's trip to the Forbes palace." He stated, closing his eyes.
Kol sighed, and glanced at Stefan. "What is it?" He asked, noticing Stefan's demeanor change to brood.
Stefan shook his head. "Sophie" He whispered, causing Klaus to turn to face him. Stefan inhaled deeply. "The night Sophie came to the door, and passed out, I noticed a mark on her. I can't remember where, but…she has one."
Klaus' eyes became dark, so dark Kol and Stefan had to take a step back. He didn't say a word as he turned on his heel, and headed into the forest where his horse was tied up.
Vaughn approached the men, holding something in his hands. "Where is Klaus going?" He asked, watching the men shake their heads and follow.
"He's going to kill a traitor." Kol stated stiffly.
Stefan paused when he saw Vaughn holding something. "What's that?"
Vaughn lifted it higher. "Something to help us find David."
~X~
Klaus threw the door open and glared at the woman standing at the far end, against the window.
"What did you tell Marcel?!" He shouted, pointing at her. "Where is my son?!" He shouted, stepping further in the room.
Sophie narrowed her eyes curiously. "I haven't talked to Marcel since I came here, and I don't know where your son is." She stated, raising her voice an octave.
Klaus glared at her. "We just attacked a camp of Marcel's, and a soldier there said there was a traitor with a mark of the v, and she was working with Marcel." He stated, coming closer to her.
Sophie shook her head. "I have no such mark on my body." She replied, lifting her head proudly high.
He shook his head. "Stefan said he remembered a mark on you when you collapsed." He began, watching her eyes widen.
Sophie shook her head at the accusation. "I do have a mark, but it is not a v." She whispered, with past remembrance in her voice and eyes.
Klaus narrowed his eyes. "You have betrayed me once for Marcel, Sophie. You could easily do it again, and I swear if you have been giving him information, information which led him to take my son, and stab my wife!" He shouted, glaring. "I will kill you, and not hesitate." He stated, harshly in a low tone.
Sophie shook her head. "I swear. I have not betrayed you, Klaus." She whispered, glancing away from him for a moment. "The mark I have is on my breast." She added, lowly, turning to look at him. "My father gave it to me, and I can assure you it is not a v." She stated, pulling her dress down slightly to show the mark.
Klaus' eyes widened, but his mouth remained closed. His teeth clenched at the sight. There on her breast was a simple cross. He nodded in confirmation, and turned on his heel, slamming the door as he left.
Sophie pulled the dress back up, and narrowed her eyes. "No." She whispered, closing her eyes. "It can't be."
~The Next Morning~
Caroline moved off the bed with the help of Bonnie, and moved to sit in a small chair by the window. Since Caroline had wanted to move around, Bonnie had reluctantly agreed to her moving around the room, only if she had someone with her.
After sitting her in the chair, the door flung open, and they turned to see a distraught Klaus.
Knowing it was her cue to leave; Bonnie smiled softly at her friend, and left the room, softly closing the door behind her.
Klaus walked over to the water basin, and watched the blood from his hands, splashed some water on his face.
Caroline sat in silence, and sighed. "Did you find anything?" She asked, watching him, wipe the water off with a towel, covering it in blood.
He shook his head, and turned to face her. "We learned that there is a traitor in this castle." He stated, firmly.
Caroline nodded, and turned her head to the window. "Another traitor." She whispered, remembering a time before.
Klaus nodded. "Apparently, this traitor is a woman, and she carries a mark on her. A V." He replied, walking towards her.
Caroline turned her face back to him. "A V?" She asked, tilting her head to the side. "Like the one Bonnie has?" She asked, watching him nod. "It's not Bonnie." She stated, firmly.
He nodded, and knelt down in front of her. "I know it's not, Caroline." He returned, grasping her hands in his.
"Then who is it?" She asked, softly.
He shook his head. "I don't know. I thought it was Sophie at first, but she doesn't carry the v." He replied, lowering his head. "I'm sorry, love." He whispered, kissing her hands softly.
Caroline shook her head. "Sorry for what?" She asked, lifting his head. "It sounds like you have learned more from your night away than you knew before." She replied, wisely with a smile.
He smiled, and lowered his eyes. "We may have a location of where Marcel had David last." He replied, looking up into her eyes.
Caroline's sparked with life. "Where?" She asked, searching his eyes.
He smiled. "500 miles southwest of here." He answered, watching her smile light up her face.
"Have you sent men?" She asked, watching him nod.
"I sent Elijah and Vaughn." He answered, smiling. "They should return in three days." He replied.
She smiled, and touched his face. "It seems so long." She whispered, sadly.
"I know, but maybe Marcel has not moved, and we could get lucky." He stated with a smile.
She shook her head and hummed. "Mm, I don't believe in luck." She whispered, leaning forward. "I believe in love."
~X~
In the shadows of the castle, a hooded figure stepped out of the dark, and clutched the hood tighter over his face.
So long had he been kept in the dark. For too long, had he been forced to remain silent. Now he had Marcel to help with his revenge. Marcel would never succeed in taking down Klaus. No, not while Caroline was still alive. The only way to get to Klaus was to take out Caroline.
He smiled to himself. It should be so easy. She was weak from the wound she had endured, and Klaus was hardly by her side during the day. All he had to do was to wait for the little slut of Marcel's to sneak out and open the gate. Then he could sneak in and head to the royal chambers.
He turned to see another figure approach, and he smiled. "It took you long enough." He stated, glaring.
The other man nodded. "It wasn't easy getting over the border." He stated, harshly. "Is she in there?" He asked, nodding towards the castle.
"Yes, she is." He remarked, coldly. "We have to wait until tomorrow night, and then we strike them. Give them this night to be at peace." He added, watching the other man nod coldly.
Tomorrow night…
I know this chapter wasn't very long, but I like to say that ch. 15 is going to be the answer chapter. You will find out the traitor, the two men, and where little David is.
Though I should say that David will not return to his parents next chapter, but you won't have long to wait, though. I'm currently working on the next chapter, so it should be up soon.
PLEASE NO HARSH COMMENTS!
Until Next Time...
