Aw, the next chapter! I apologize for taking a while. I hope you enjoy this anyway!
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT! IT MEANS SO MUCH!
Please remember to review at the end! :)
Caroline stared into the fire, and felt the heat touch her face. They were so close to her son, and yet so far. She stared until the fire began to burn her eyes, and turned her head, before she stood up from her seat. Walking a little ways from the camp, she folded her arms over her chest, and stared into the forest.
They had set out for Marcel's camp a few hours ago, and they were resting for the night, so they would be ready for an attack in the morning, at first light.
She closed her eyes, and bowed her head. She wanted her son back, but she needed to be patient. Although for a mother, patience for a missing child was not an option.
She turned her head, when she heard someone coming to stand beside her.
"You should get some rest, Caroline." Bonnie remarked, glancing at her.
Caroline shook her head. "Every time I close my eyes, I see his face, Bonnie." She whispered, shakily.
Bonnie nodded, and looked into the forest. "You should at least try to rest. It would do David no good if his mother is exhausted." She whispered, wisely.
"I know you are right, but…" She trailed off, shaking her head. "I can't, not when my baby is out there." She whispered, brokenly.
Bonnie touched her friend on the shoulder. "From what I've been told, he's in good hands, and safe. You have to believe that." She stated, strongly.
"Yeah, I heard." Caroline scoffed. "The niece of a friend of Damon's." She added, glancing at Bonnie. She saw Bonnie's eyes cloud over, and she sighed. "I'm sorry, Bonnie." She said, turning to her friend. "It must have shocked you when you heard of Damon's vow to protect you." She added, watching Bonnie nod.
Bonnie smiled wanly. "When he died, I thought no one would, no man," She corrected nodding. "Would ever love me, all of me, like Damon did," She whispered, her eyes becoming distant. She smiled for a moment. "That is until I met Kol." She added, with a light laugh. She sobered before she continued. "Damon knew the dangers of loving me, especially since I'm the last of my line, or was, until little Bellona was born." She amended with a smile.
Caroline smiled. "Bennetts are the most respected of the gypsies, Bonnie, and you know, it doesn't matter to me what you are." She replied, touching her friend's arm. "You will always be my sister, and best friend." She added, confidently.
Bonnie nodded, and wrapped her arms around her friend. "Believe that your son is safe, Caroline. Believe it." She whispered in her friend's ear.
Caroline nodded, and held her friend close. She knew Bonnie was right, but her heart ached with the pain only a mother could feel.
Somehow, she was getting her son back, and she didn't care who or what she had to go through, she was getting him back.

Klaus stroked his sword with a rock, and let his mind drift to the task before him. His son was only ten miles away, and yet it seemed like a thousand. He closed his eyes, and he let the anger fill his heart.
He opened his eyes, and sighed as Kol and Elijah came closer and leaned against the boulders beside him.
"You should be with Caroline, Niklaus." Elijah replied, diplomatically.
Klaus paused in his work, and leaned his sword on his shoulder. "She doesn't want to see me, not now." He whispered, staring off into the forest.
Kol shook his head. "Nik, she needs you." He whispered, moving to his eyes over his brother's solemn face.
Klaus closed his eyes. "She said, every time she looks at me, she sees our son." He whispered, feeling his eyes burn behind his lids.
"That doesn't mean you should avoid her now, Niklaus." Elijah stated, firmly.
Klaus sighed. "Our son is a few miles away, and a part of me wishes we could attack now, just so she would forgive me." He whispered, shaking his head.
Kol glanced at Elijah, and narrowed his eyes. "Forgive you for what?" He asked, in a demanding tone.
"Forgive me for allowing David to be taken away from us." Klaus answered, with affirmation.
Kol and Elijah shook their heads. "That's bullshit." Kol stated, crossly. "Caroline doesn't blame you. You blame yourself, Nik." He stated, straightening his back.
Klaus glared at his brother. "So what if I do?" He nearly shouted, jumping down from the rock he was sitting on. "It was my fault. I should have never let them out of my sight, and now my worst enemy has my son." He stated, moving away from them.
"Niklaus, you can't control everything, and Caroline knows that." Elijah remarked, folding his arms over his chest. "It wasn't your fault that David was taken, and it wasn't your fault that Caroline was attacked." He began, pushing away from the boulder to walk closer to his brother. "It wasn't your fault that Marcel vowed vengeance." He added, lowly.
Klaus turned his gaze to his brother, and his jaw clenched. "I killed his family, Elijah. I did it!" He shouted, pointing his finger at his chest. "And now my family is paying the price for what I've done." He whispered, turning on his heel and storming away.
Kol sighed as his brother disappeared into the darkness. "I hope we get David back tomorrow, or else he won't be the only one lost to us." He whispered, sadly.
Elijah nodded, and started back towards the camp.
He needed to find Caroline.
~X~
Klaus stared up at the sky full of stars, and sighed. He had missed this, just looking up at the constellations, but this was not what he had in mind when he wished he could look at them again in the country.
He closed his eyes, and listened as gentle footsteps approached from behind. He didn't have to open his eyes to know who it was. He knew.
"You should be resting, Swan."
Caroline smiled and shook her head. "How can I when my Rogue is troubled?" She whispered, stopping behind him, only to wrap her arms around his waist.
He sighed, and looked back up at the stars. "I can't even remember the last time I looked up at them and felt at peace." He whispered, searching the stars.
Caroline moved around to face him. "I remember one time." She whispered, with a glint in her eyes, though he could see the sadness.
He lifted his right hand, and caressed her face tenderly. "Our first night." He whispered, watching her nod.
She smiled. "That night was so perfect, Niklaus." She whispered, closing the distance between them.
He sighed, and placed his forehead on hers. "It was." He whispered, lifting his head to kiss her forehead gently, before placing it back on hers.
She sighed, wrapped her arms around his waist. "You'll get him back, Klaus." She whispered, knowing what he was thinking. "No, I don't blame you." She added, slowly rubbing her forehead against his.
He pulled back, and stared down at her. "Elijah told you." He concluded watching her nod.
"After everything we have been through together, Niklaus, how could you even, for one moment, believe that I would doubt you?" She asked, grasping his face between her hands. "You have always come through for us, Niklaus, and I will never blame you for something that is out of your control." She stated, firmly, with a soft glare in his eyes.
He sighed, and his eyes closed. "I blame myself, Caroline." He whispered, pulling away from her embrace.
She sighed. "Why? It was not your fault." She stated, following him.
He turned his head away from her. "I was the one who killed his family. It's my past that is coming back to haunt me, and in return, it's destroying my family." He stated, sternly.
Caroline's turned to rage at his words, which he had been constantly saying over and over again since David was taken. Marching up to him, she grasped his upper arms, and glared into his eyes. "Now you listen here, you dumb rogue," She scolded, glaring at him. "Nothing will ever destroy this family, not as long as I'm drawing breathe. Do you understand me? Nothing!" She shouted in his face.
"Caroline," He began, softly.
"No, don't you 'Caroline' me, Niklaus!" She shouted, shaking her head. "I've told you countless times that I don't blame you. I blame Marcel. Not you. Marcel!" She stated, shaking her head as she emphasized. "Do you understand me?!" She added, with a near shout.
Klaus smiled, and pulled her closer, slamming his lips against hers in a passionate kiss. Caroline melted against him, and moved her lips over his, though he seemed to control the moment.
He pulled back, slowly, and he felt her shiver in his arms. "That's a promise, Swan." He whispered, gazing into her dazed eyes. "I promise I will get him back." He stated, firmly.
She smiled and dipped her head. "You don't have to promise, Klaus." She whispered, lifting her gaze to his. "I already know you will." She added, touching his face tenderly, stroking his scruffy cheeks.
He smiled, at her, and noticed the stars shining in her eyes at the moment. "What I wouldn't give to make love to you here underneath the stars?" He whispered, lifting his right hand to caress her face.
She smiled, and leaned into his hand. "So would I." She whispered, opening her mouth to kiss his palm.
He sighed, and kissed her tenderly on the lips. "If anything should happen, swan, I want to have this night, for both of us." He whispered, moving his hands up to her shoulders, and slowly pushed the sleeves of her simple dress off her shoulders, watching her smile, sadly.
"So do I." She whispered, moving her hands to the bottom of his tunic, and pulled it up and over his head.
Dropping it on the ground, he pushed her dress down her arms, revealing her breasts to his cerulean eyes.
He bent his head, and softly kissed her bare breasts, pushing her dress fully down her body to the ground.
She threw her head back, and arched against him as her hands threaded in his hair. He moved his lips over her chest, and up to her throat, chin, and her opened mouth.
She moaned, as she clung to him, feeling him, gently lay her down, on top of their fallen clothes. Her right leg moved over his hips, and he pulled up from her lips, to look down at her face.
He knew this was right, for he had no idea what would befall them tomorrow, when they make the attempt to get their son back. If he didn't survive, he would make sure she would remember this night, and if possible, he would give her the hope of carrying another child.
Gently moving his body down hers, he removed her undergarments, until she was bare before him. He smiled tenderly, but his smile held a hint of desire. Watching her smile, he climbed over her, and felt her move her hands over his pants, until they were lose. Rolling to his side, he pushed his pants off, with his boots, and then, moved back over her.
Moving his hands over her body, he knew she was ready for this. Positioning himself over her, he plunged deep within her, and he smiled with pride as she bit her lip to contain the scream he knew she wanted to make.
He began to move, feeling himself go deeper inside her, when she moved her legs around his waist. He pushed harder and yet tenderly, filling his desire for her to heighten.
She arched her back, and clawed at his back, feeling him penetrate her with not just his body but his soul. He was deep within her, and she felt stronger. He felt stronger. They were stronger.
He arched his hips down, and pushed harder and deeper, causing them to moan in unison.
He felt his seed pour deep within her, and he watched as she shivered, and tightened her grip on his body. She wanted to scream. He knew that. He wanted to scream with her, but they couldn't. Someone could hear them, and they didn't want that.
He thrust in her a few more times, feeling his completion hit him in waves, and he knew if he should die tomorrow, that he would die knowing he had spent one last night making love to his gorgeous wife, and returning his son home to her.
He collapsed on top of her with the stars shining on their sweat covered bodies, making them seem like diamonds on their skin.
Caroline stroked his bare back, and turned her head to kiss his face. He lifted up and kissed her lips tenderly.
"Thank you." She whispered, stroking his face. "Thank you for giving me tonight." She whispered, tears filling her eyes.
Klaus swallowed the lump in his throat. "You knew." He whispered, searching her eyes.
She nodded. "I knew you were thinking that you might not make it tomorrow when we face Marcel." She whispered, sadly. "I know you did this because, if you didn't make it, I would have the memory of your tender loving, and the possibility of having another child." She whispered, lowering her eyes to their bodies, still joined together.
He nodded, and lowered his eyes. "I don't want to leave you, Caroline." He whispered, touching her face.
She nodded. "I don't want you to either." She whispered, stroking his hair, moving it out of his face. "I still need you, and so does David." She added, strongly.
He sighed. "Caroline, if something does happen…" He trailed off when her lips brushed his.
"I won't promise something that won't happen." She stated, refusing to acknowledge the knowledge that something could happen to him.
Klaus smiled sadly. "I love you, never forget that." He whispered, searching her eyes in the starlight.
She smiled, and stroked his face. "I love you too." She returned, tenderly. "Always and forever."
He smiled, and lowered his face to hers, tenderly kissing her, letting her know that it was a promise, a promise of forever, and not just for them, but for little David as well.
~A Few Hours before Dawn~
Davina sighed, as she bundled David up in her tent. "They should be arriving soon, little one." She whispered in David's ear.
David babbled and touched her face with his little hand, letting her know that he understood.
She smiled. "Whatever happens, I will protect you, little one." She whispered, clutching him tighter.
Outside cries were heard as a distant bombardment of arrows and clashing of swords entered the encampment.
Davina smiled. "They're here, David." She whispered, pulling him back to look into his happy face. "Your parents are here."
PLEASE BE KIND!
YAY! They have arrived! I know I had Klaus and Caroline make love, but for this I wanted to give it a little suspense, and it seemed to fit.
Who will kill Marcel? Who will deal with Camille? Will the Mikaelson's finally have their happily ever after?
Also, there are three chapters after this one, including two epilogues! Although it might be four chapters left, haven't decided yet, but we'll see, since I'm wanting to wrap this up this weekend!
Also, for those who have read the Return and Remember story, and have waited for the next installment, Liz's Choice, I have posted it, finally, at least the first chapter for the moment. You don't have to read the RandR story if you don't wish to, but it is recommended.
Anyway, UNTIL NEXT TIME...
