Chapter 19: Go right

"We need to get onto the road!" Tiffany shouted jumping over a log with Carl shortly behind repeating her steps.

They where in the woods and even though Carl thought they passed the same tree over ten times Tiffany seemed to know what she was doing. The leaves and twigs on the floor blurred below them as Tiffany felt a surge of adrenaline that made her want to run faster but she knew she would lose Carl if she did. The steady thumps of their footsteps echoed in their ears as Carl felt a bead of sweat roll down his forehead. They kept running until Tiffany stopped in a halt feeling Carl fall into her back. Carl looked over her shoulder to see a small herd of walkers occupied on eating the deer's flesh. Tiffany looked at her surrounding and found the tree she recognised that would take them back onto the road.

"Go right" Tiffany whispered and turned around to push Carl in that direction, away from the walkers. "Go right" Tiffany repeated and they both leaped into a run right. They kept running until they hit the road, Tiffany smirked while they ran in the middle of the road. She looked behind to find Carl struggling to keep up.

"Common!" Tiffany shouted over her shoulder.

"You ... ru ... Run so fast" Carl said in between breaths. Carl then looked back and seen in the distance a car. He looked back to Tiffany and she must have heard it too because she was starting to run on the edge of the road.

"Get back in the woods" She shouted and Carl didn't hesitate.

"What if it's my dad?" They kept running but when the car drove past he recognise it from Woodbury. He sighed wanting everyone to return to one another but right now he was happy that he wasn't alone, he was happy he was with someone who would survive more likely then any other. They ran on the edge of the woods and Tiffany couldn't be happier at the sight of a small town. They ran into the town and that's when Tiffany smile dropped. It was riddled with walkers.

"I can't go on running" Carl breathed putting his hands on his knees. Tiffany looked around until she found a plan.

Tiffany pulled Carl behind a store and climbed up a ladder to get onto the roof. Carl needed a rest and Tiffany knew the next safest place was over four miles. Not to mention it was getting dark.

They both sat on the roof until the sun went down.

"What's it looking like?" Carl asked while Tiffany got up and looked over the side of the roof and down at the walkers.

"There movin' east slowly" Tiffany sighed and sat back down flashing the torchlight that they found around the roof. "We will stay up here for tonight and leave tomorrow at midday to find the others" She continued.

"Where are we going to start? They could be anywhere!" Carl looked at Tiffany and could see doubt for the first time in her face.

"Do ya think ya will be able to keep up tomorrow?" Tiffany asked changing the conversation. This was one thing she did not miss, having someone on her tail like her boyfriend once did. They slowed her down and that was something Tiffany hated from people.

"Only if you don't run so fast" Carl rolled his eyes.

"Then we will look anywhere" Tiffany smirked fiddling with her necklace. She wanted to find the others as much as Carl did. She wanted to see Daryl and Carol because for some reason she wanted to know if they are okay. She felt a deep pain in her heart at the thought of them in danger. Maybe this is what love is. Maybe she loves them. Tiffany shook her head to get rid of the thought. No she doesn't love anyone and nothing will change that.

"How do your legs run so fast?" Carl asked a few moments later which made Tiffany smiled. She always had been a fast runner in her school and neighbourhood. Every night after school she would go running and always come home asking herself why she even bothered but now she was glad all that running paid off.

"It has nothin' to do with ya legs" Tiffany corrected remembering how small her height is.

"Then what?" Carl lay onto his stomach and held his head with his hands.

"It's all about the way ya breathe" Tiffany told watching as Carl face looked like it was in a deep thought.

"Common, ya need to rest" Tiffany continued.

A few weeks had passed with everyone separated and at each minute passed Tiffany was getting agitated. They spend weeks on that roof unable to even move with the amount of walkers under them but Tiffany managed to sneak down around stores for supplies while Carl stayed on the roof on the look out. Last week Tiffany started to doubt if they would even find the others and would be stuck with Carl for the rest of the years but she wasn't complaining because believe it or not she was growing to him. Fair play he was quiet handy to have and even though she so use to working on her own it almost as if Carl knew her exact movements.

They managed to get off the roof and into the woods this morning. They where walking at a quick past keeping there guard on but at the moment they hadn't seen a single walker. Tiffany decided they would head west only hopping the others are around that direction but she could defiantly feel winter coming along and needed to find shelter for the two of them before it gets too cold to even move.

"Can I tell you something?" Carl asked walking beside Tiffany. Tiffany looked at him not really wanting to know but maybe there talking would kill some time.

"You know Beth?" Carl continued and watched as Tiffany rolled her eyes and looked away.

"Ya mean the blonde girl who has no idea" Tiffany insulted. It wasn't that she didn't like Beth it was just that she was not the sort of girl Tiffany would talk to or get along with. Now that's the type of person that Tiffany couldn't be stuck with in this moment of time unlike Carl.

"She has no idea that I love her" Carl sighed. Tiffany didn't really know what to say because this was not her sort of thing. Love was a stranger to her and always tried to do anything that avoided it.

"Have ya told her?" Tiffany asked looking into the horizon. She could defiantly feel her cheeks blushing from this peculiar conversation.

"No...I don't think she loves me... In that way" Carl sadly said looking down at the leaves.

"That's why I don't see any point in love" Tiffany said but more to herself. "Love only makes ya selfish, cold and weak" Tiffany continued to herself. She didn't know why she was saying all this because Carol and Daryl proved her wrong of all these things but sometimes there are different types of love on different levels.

"Love bites – it only gets ya hurt" Tiffany carried on and then looked at Carl. She felt guilt overwhelm her at Carl disappointed face. There was an awkward silence for a few minutes until Tiffany knew she said wrong even if that was her opinion.

"But look" Tiffany stopped walking and put her hand on his shoulder. "Don't listen to what I say about love. What ya really need to listen to is ya heart" Tiffany smiled once he looked up and returned it.

Carl was about to answer until they looked upon this abandoned house with two familiar living people sat on the balcony steps.
