Chapter 20:Smoke
"Do you think we will ever find them?" Beth asked as Daryl walked down the balcony stairs. Daryl sighed because at this point he would do anything just to be with Carol again. It had been weeks and there was no sign of the others. All that Daryl could know the others could be heading for another state.
After they took the car from the driveway at the house they stayed just after the mansion got attacked they travelled west, finding another small house three weeks later but having no luck on finding their love ones.
"I don't know Beth" Daryl whispered and then feeling her eyes bold onto him. Beth was surprised that Daryl was even talking to her for the first time since they found the jackpot full of food but she was mostly surprised that Daryl sounded like he given up; like he's lost hope. Daryl has been so positive and determined to find them that Beth thought he was mad.
Daryl grunted as he watched the tears form in Beth's eyes. The only tears exception to him was Carol's. He then felt Beth move closer to him and her arms wrap around him making him go wide eyes from surprise. He awkwardly put his hands around her seconds later and brought her closer to his chest.
"We will find them" Daryl said with more confidence and thought about bolting away into the woods but he couldn't, there was nowhere to go anymore because no matter where they went it was nowhere.
After they stood hugging for a few minutes for Beth to get the tears out her system they heard a gasp near by. Daryl pulled away from Beth quickly and making sure his crossbow was loaded. Keeping his balance from falling he looked up to see Carl and Tiffany.
"Carl" Beth said watching a tear fall down his cheek. Carl shook his head and lashed away and into the house. He couldn't watch Beth loving someone else in that way and it hurt him more as soon as they both bolted away from their touch they immediately looked guilty.
Daryl looked back at Tiffany and felt a wave of guilt overwhelm him. Her face was red with anger and Daryl hadn't really noticed until now at how many freckles she had. But Tiffany looked more than anything upset like she didn't know either to cry or lash out.
Tiffany was fuming that she felt her blood boil. She was jealous for Carol that Daryl was hugging Beth. Tiffany loved Daryl and Carol; she seen them more as her parents then anything and now, now Daryl was with Beth.
"What the fuck is goin' on here?" Tiffany walked forward putting her knife away; she didn't trust herself. She has just spent the last couple of weeks looking for these people to find Daryl already over Carol.
"It's not what it looks like" Beth said feeling frightened of what this girl younger then her had in store.
"It looks cosy" Tiffany said calmly raising one eyebrow but that only made Daryl feel worse. When ever Merle was calm he always had something in mind that was worse then acting pissed off towards everyone.
"She was upset about her family" Daryl spoke defensively.
"What about Carol huh?" Tiffany burst out making Daryl and Beth jump. "As soon as we lose each other ya lose hope! Huh? Ya imminently give up on Carol and go off and hook on this... this... Whatever she is!" Tiffany continued shouting. She didn't care if every walker heard her; she loves Carol and Daryl. Yes loves them and then as soon as Daryl gives up he finds someone else. Tiffany couldn't do this. She couldn't watch two people who have the most amazing blessing to be with each other ruin it.
"Tiffany ya know I fuckin' love Carol and ya know I don't give up on shit like that!" Daryl shouted. This was all a misunderstanding, Tiffany and Carl turned up at the wrong time and ended up with the wrong end of the stick. Nothing was going on with Beth and Daryl. How could they even think that; they know Daryl loves Carol and would take a bullet as long as she lived. Daryl felt Beth walk up to the house but didn't bother to turn. He was done with babysitting Beth. He watched as Tiffany rolled her eyes and turned to walk away.
Tiffany needed to leave before her tears fell; she walked away with watery eyes and took out the cigarette from her back pocket. She felt around in her other pocket for her lighter and started to light up the cigarette. She doesn't normally smoke because it affects her running but fuck did she need it right now. She moved it to her mouth and closed her eyes at the sensation.
"Get ya fuckin' ass back here now!" Daryl shouted behind her. He pulled her shoulder off guard making her body fly around to face him. Tiffany watched as Daryl looked at her and then at the cigarette.
"Are ya fuckin' smokin'?" Daryl looked back to her face and watched as she took another puff.
"How'd ya guess?" Tiffany smirked almost like her anger flushed away in the matter of minutes.
"Give it here" Daryl commanded and held his hand out. Daryl didn't know why he was acting like this but part of him felt responsible for Tiffany. He knew Merle would let his own daughter smoke at Tiffany age but fuck if Daryl was.
"Fuck no. Get ya own" Tiffany took a step back and brought the cigarette to her mouth. Before she knew it the cigarette went flying out her fingers and jumped onto the floor. She looked up at Daryl and knew if he didn't go this second his face was going to be flat.
"Where the rest" Daryl threatened. Tiffany sighed and took the remaining two out her pocket along with the lighter. He snatched them out her hands but kept his glance.
"Why does it concern ya" Tiffany mumbled feeling the loss of the taste already.
"Because it does! Now get ya ass back in the house" Daryl shouted pointing towards the house. Tiffany passed him quickly but turned around before she stepped into the house and watched as Daryl took her cigarette into his mouth. Tiffany breathed heavily and walked back towards him.
"Why the fuck am I gettin' the shit? Ya the one that's hookin' on a teenager!" Tiffany shouted feeling her veins tense.
"There is nothin' goin' on with me and Beth!" Daryl snapped back. "She was upset about Maggie and hugged me without warnin'" Daryl continued and watched as Tiffany took in his words.
Silence fell between them because the other didn't know what to say to the other. Tiffany took two hair bands off her wrist and plated each side of her ginger brown hair. Daryl turned tense as he watched as she took her knife out her waistband and walked past him and towards the woods.
"Why are ya so interested in Carol and my relationship?" Daryl broke the silence. He didn't understand why Tiffany was so concerned about them being together. It was like all she wanted was them to be together and nothing to break them apart. She wasn't interested in Glenn and Maggie's relationship so why was she interested in theirs.
"Because I love ya both, okay?" Tiffany burst out and continued "I've never had people like ya in my life" She turned around and quickly made her way towards the woods again. Daryl felt a small smile tug his lips.
