It had been three days since her dream. Since her nightmare. And it had been three days since she had slept.
October lay in her bed, her roommate snoring softly in the bed across from her. Dark circles hang under her tired eyes, no longer as blue as they used to be.
The sun shone through the light blue curtains, the rain from a week ago long gone (much to October's disappointment). She tried burying her head beneath her grey comforter, but it didn't help. She groaned, pulling the comforter from her body, the chilly morning air making goosebumps rise on her skin. She ignored the chill, and began walking out of the room, not bothering to change out of her black sweat pants and large grey T-shirt or caring if anyone saw her.
No one was up except for her and save a few early risers, I mean, it was 7AM, who would be? She began walking towards the kitchen, maybe grab some toast and coffee, then get ready for her 9 o' clock classes. Not that those were fun, in fact, she was surprised she hadn't killed anyone yet. Especially John… He had been irritated her lately, ever since that day at lunch. Always trying to talk to her and flicking that stupid lighter in class (October couldn't fathom why Storm hadn't killed him yet). But what bugged her the most, was that he was always watching her with that intense stare, it unnerved her…
The second she stepped foot in the kitchen, she regretted it.
Sitting at the bar eating a bowl of Lucky Charms cereal, was the very person she had been thinking about. She mentally groaned, but physically she stayed calm. October and John stared at each other, neither saying anything (though John smirked). October was the first to look away, feeling uncomfortable and wanting to get her toast and coffee and then leave.
She ignored his stare that burned holes in her back and she put bread inside the toaster, and then got the coffee pot ready, trying to busy herself and hurry up so she could leave. October was actually surprised to see John up this early, because he was never up this early, she would know because she always got up this early (believe it or not) and never saw him. She was almost tempted to ask, but thought better of it.
"You look like shit."
The bold statement made her stop and blink for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure and shrugged as a reply, knowing he was still watching her, and continued buttering her toast. She really did look like shit though, her platinum hair was messy and oily, her skin was a sickly pale color, and her eyes were dead. She was basically a walking zombie. But whatever she did, she just couldn't get those images out of her head… Why had they suddenly come back? She hadn't had the nightmares since she first came to the mansion… So why now?
"Are you okay?" came John's surprisingly concerned voice.
She hadn't noticed, but her hand was clutching the butterknife so tightly that her knuckles were white and small bolts of electricity were sparking around her hand and the butterknife. October dropped the butterknife as if it had burned her. She held her right hand and stared at it. Did that really just happen? Did she really lose control? Is it happening again? The thought scared her.
She could distantly hear someone saying her name, but she ignored it, only images of bright lights and screaming filled her head. She could feel her body start trembling and her vision blurring.
She snapped out of it when she felt a hand on her shoulder. October jerked her body away from John, electricity sparking around her. She looked at John with wide eyes, who was also looking at her with a look of shock on his face and noticed he was holding one of his hands. October realized in horror that she had shocked him.
He stepped closer, reaching out his other hand "Look it was-"
"Don't touch me." She cut him off, not looking at him.
And then she was gone in a whirl of wind.
…
After the incident in the kitchen, October had passed out, most likely due to being sleep deprived and using a lot of power and then transporting herself to her room. Thankful she she slept dreamlessly but also woke up late and had to get ready in 15 minutes. She probably took the quickest shower of her life and then just throw on a pair of cargo pants, a band Tee, and her usually hoodie. And since she missed out on her breakfast and coffee, she at least managed to teleport to the kitchen to snatch an apple and a soda.
She was currently walking with Pixie to their next class, Pixie talking about something that happened in Jean's class. While October's thoughts wandered to her nightmare again. If she thinking about it set her off, would she continue to lose control of her powers? After all the lessons she took with The Professor and Storm?
"October? Are you even listening to me?" Pixie whined and pouted.
October sighed, "Sorry, just been zoning out a lot lately…"
Pixie's face softened and her eyes held concern, "You haven't been sleeping these past few days.."
October just shrugged, she didn't need Pixie worrying about her, because when Pixie worried, she went overboard. October looked at Pixie again, seeing that she wasn't satisfied with her weak reply and still looked concerned. October groaned, why couldn't she just leave it alone?
"Look, I'm fine, I've just had a lot of homework piled up and John's been a pain in my ass the past week." She told Pixie, all of these being true of course, the teachers had been piling homework on everyone and John had been a problem. But her answer seemed to have pleased Pixie, seeing as she perked up again and went on about something.
Just mentioning John had October feeling nervous. What would she do when she saw him again? Because they are obviously going to run into each other, they live in the same mansion! She guessed she would just have to pretend that nothing happened… But what if he confronted her? The thought made October sick.
She decided to stop thinking of John and rather on getting to class on time.
…
October was sure that the universe hated her, I mean, why else would they place John Allerdyce as her partner in science?
She was basically having a mental breakdown on the inside, but on the outside she was her usual deadpan-self, completely ignoring her partner who never looked away from her. Why was he looking at her? Thats all he does is stare at her, like she's some strange foreign creature. Has he not seen the kid with a lizard tongue? Or Pixie's hair and eyes? I mean, sure, she has practically white hair and her eyes spark from time to time, but that isn't any reason for him to stare at her every damn day!
Now fully irritated with her situation, October sulked the rest of the lesson until class was dismissed.
October bolted (pun fully intended) out of class and into the hallway, weaving through a throng of other students, being careful not to touch anyone. She sighed when she made it to the library, finally somewhere quiet and away from John. October set off to the back to her usually table near the window that overlooked the garden. She sighed again, closing her eyes and leaning back in her comfy green chair, finally relaxing.
When she opened her eyes however, October had practically jumped out of her chair and gasped, finding John in the seat across from her. John smirked at her reaction and sat back into his equally comfy chair (hers was more comfier though, trust me, she checked). October's eyes sparked in annoyance.
"What the hell are you doing here?" She said through clenched teeth, John only continued smirking.
"Is it wrong to sit with my fellow classmate? Not to mention we're also partners." John said with a sarcastic innocent tone.
October scuffed, "Or it's because you're a creepy stalker…" She mumbled to herself, though loud enough for him to hear.
His smirk fell and his face became serious, surprising October with his sudden mood change.
"Look, I just want to know what happened this morning." He said firmly, making October's heart skip a beat. What should she say?
"I don't know what you're talking about…" October said, her voice trailing off and looking away from him.
"The hell you don't. I was there, you were holding that knife and there was electricity everywhere, so why don't you just tell me the truth-"
"Because that's none of your business!" October snapped, her eyes sparking in anger and hands clutching the armchairs, "It's none of your business and thats, that. We're not friends, I don't have to tell you anything, I don't even have to speak to you or look at you. So drop it, okay?"
October glared right at John, he was shocked at her outburst, but she didn't care anymore. Instead she decided to calm down, standing up and began walking away.
Only to have a hand stop her. She tensed, unfamiliar with the contact and due to that, ended up shocking John for the second time that day, though this time she was far less worried, in fact, she was quite satisfied with herself. John yelped (yes, he yepled) and shook his hand from the pain. October rolled her eyes and began walking again.
"No! Wait!" John called out.
She kept walking.
She heard John groan loudly and then he was in front of her, blocking her way. She glared at him, trying to get around him, but he continued to block her. It was her turn to groan.
"What do you want from me?" She said in irritation, giving up on trying to get around him.
"I just want to talk to you, okay? Is that so much to ask? To be friends?" John said, his eyes locked on hers.
October blinked. Friends? Thats what he wanted? Why would he want to be friends with her?
"Why?" She question aloud, confused at what he said.
"Do I have to have a reason to want to be friends with someone?" He retorted.
"Um, yeah?" October said in a very duh-ish tone.
John rolled his eyes,"Okay, I find you interesting, different. Plus its fine to mess with you." he grinned at that.
To say October was confused, was an understatement. It made no sense. I mean, why would he want to be friends with her, she wasn't interesting at all, compared to Pixie, she was a stick in the mud. And her and John argued constantly, she didn't even like him. But maybe thats what friends did, I mean, her and Pixie weren't exactly perfect and they did disagree on most everything…
October swallowed the lump in her throat, filling slightly uncomfortable with the situation. She hesitated but said, "Okay, maybe we could be friends or whatever…" She trailed off again, her cheeks hot from embarrassment.
John grinned and out stretched his hand towards her, she looked warily at his hand and then to his face and back at his hand again, but slowly put her smaller hand into his larger one.
"Just try not to shock me anymore."
"No promises."
…
And that concludes this chapter, I tried to fit what I wanted in there before I went into the movieverse plotline and I hope it wasn't too rushed.
And so I decided to try out something different from what I did with my first version of this story, and hopefully the making October and John somewhat friends plays out the way I want it too. But bare in mind that just because I made them somewhat friends now, doesn't mean that John will stop being a turd and October won't be utterly annoyed with him. Also, the romance in this story, will be barely there, you'll probably have to squint.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this because I have no idea when I'll be able to update again (I know, I'm horrible), but I will try my hardest. I still have school (lots and lots of homework to be done), still have children up at my house almost every week (I'm never ever having kids), and even though wrestling season is over, I still have two my tournaments (yay training). So I'll try to find the time to update this, even if it kills me…
Oh! And thank you to everyone who favorited, followed, and reviewed my story! It really makes me happy to see that you guys like my story(:
