As Lily and James walked off towards the boys dormitory, Sirius looked back at the group sporting a massive grin on his face. The wand began to spin again until it slowly stopped on Marlene. She glared evilly as Sirius's face lit up as he asked the dreaded question, "Truth or Dare?". Marlene hesitated, wondering which one would be easier but then she remembered that this was Sirius who was handing out truths and dares so either way, the truth would be as bad as doing a dare.
"Dare." Marlene sighed after a few minutes of silence.
Sirius grinned darkly but groaned when Remus got to it first.
"I dare you to down ten shots of firewhiskey like Alice but then you have to walk in a straight line from one side of the room to the other whilst balancing a book on your head; without magic." said Remus.
Marlene nodded in satisfaction as Remus lined up the ten shot glasses and filled them with firewhiskey.
"What happens if she fails the book balancing?" asked Alice.
"She does a forfeit." Sirius winked at Marlene.
She rolled her eyes, knowing that whatever Lily's forfeit was, it had to do with something sexual.
"I hate you." Marlene hissed at him.
Sirius grinned and leaned into her, "If you hated me so much you wouldn't snog me." he whispered and gave her another wink.
She rolled her eyes and began downing the ten shots, feeling it burn in the back of her throat the quicker she downed them. After the cheering and encouraging chants from Alice and Remus, she stood up and took a book from one of the nearby armchairs and placed it on her head. She chucked her wand at Sirius and began to walk, one foot in front of the other.
But she didn't get even halfway when she felt her legs go like jelly and she tripped to the floor, the book flying off of her head and Sirius was laughing hard. She glared at him when he saw that his wand was in his hand; confirming that he had cast the jelly legs curse at her. Once the curse had lifted, she got to her feet and started hitting Sirius on the arm.
Sirius placed his wand back to the position it had been in for the game and grabbed hold of Marlene's wrists to restrain her, she had been hitting him so hard that he was certain that he would be bruised in the morning. But before they could speak, the wand had flicked a forfeit card in Marlene's direction. She turned the card over, closing her eyes in frustration after she had finished reading it.
Take the nearest of the opposite sex closest to you and go to a private space. For five minutes you are required to snog them.
Marlene looked from the card to Sirius and glared murderously at him, she stood up and walked towards the portrait hole with Sirius's picking up the discarded card and following her, with both Alice and Remus staring after them. Six had now become two.
"So, how's it going with Mary?" asked Alice.
Remus smiled as he passed her a bottle of firewhiskey before getting himself one.
"Great, she's a lovely girl." replied Remus.
Alice smiled as she took a mouthful of firewhiskey, gagging at the aftertaste which caused Remus to chuckle lightly.
"Just don't hurt my best friend." Alice smiled.
"What makes you think I would?" asked Remus.
Alice's smile faded, "I know you wouldn't intentionally Remus, I know you're a nice boy." she said warmly.
"But?"
"I know about you." she whispered.
Remus's eyes widened, how could she possibly know?
"How-
"The trips home once a month because a relative is ill. These trips coincide with the full moon. The state you are in when you come back, fresh scratches and cuts? You're lucky other people are too stupid to put clues together." Alice whispered.
Remus nodded as he took several mouthfuls out of his own bottle, making Alice feel guilty for her revelation. She would have kept it to herself but the firewhiskey had gotten her near drunkenness and she had just found herself wanting to talk to Remus about it; her last intention was to cause offence or upset to Remus.
After a few minutes, Remus placed the bottle on the floor in front of him and turned to her; noticing the look of guilt on her face and smiling warmly. Alice returned the smile, hoping that he hadn't been offended by her bringing it up.
"I promise you that Mary will never be in any danger. Dumbledore keeps me protected I promise you but I need you to do something for me?" asked Remus.
"What's that?" asked Alice.
"Keep it to yourself, my secret cannot get out. If it does then parents will be writing to Dumbledore concerned for their children's safety and demand that I be thrown out." said Remus quietly.
Alice patted his hand and nodded.
"I won't say a word." she promised.
Before they could talk more, they heard footsteps coming down the stairs from the boy's dormitory. They both turned to see Lily emerge from the winding staircase.
"Where's Marley and Sirius?" asked Lily.
"Off doing a forfeit." Alice replied with a sly grin.
Lily rolled her eyes, walking over to the portrait hole.
"What did you and James get up to?" asked Alice.
"Nothing that mattered." said Lily casually.
"Tell me later?"
"No." Lily replied with a little smile.
"So you didn't?" asked Remus.
Lily rolled her eyes, "God Remus! is that all you boys think about?" she asked mortified.
Remus grinned, "What can I say? We're all boys of age and eager to be fulfill our young years." he replied.
James came down from the dormitory after that, cloak wrapped around his shoulder and carrying a spare cloak for Lily to wear. He looked at Alice and Remus before scanning the rest of the common room for their missing two friends.
"Where's the other two?" asked James as he joined Lily at the portrait hole.
"Forfeit." Alice sniggered.
James looked at Lily and she blushed a light pink, causing Remus and Alice to look at them both in curiosity.
"Something did happen!" Alice giggled.
They both waved goodbye and headed out of the portrait hole, Alice got to her feet and stretched widely.
"I'm off to bed, night Remus." she yawned.
"Night Ali." Remus replied.
Alice, very tipsily, walked over to the winding staircase that led to the girl's dormitory and Remus's smiled humorously as he heard her crawling up the stairs to reach her room.
Marlene shut the door to the nearest empty classroom and shoved Sirius to a nearby desk. Sirius continued to grin from ear to ear as she came over to him, her face inches away from his. She pulled his lips to hers and kissed him fiercely, wanting to get it over with. Sirius matched her passion as he ran his hands through her blonde hair and held her head securely in place as his tongue entered her mouth. She held onto his shirt collar, holding him to her as securely as he held her to him.
After three minutes, Marlene pulled away to catch her breath. They both released each other and got their breathing down to a normal pace before meeting the other's gaze.
"We still have two minutes." Sirius hinted.
"You've had your fill." Marlene stated.
"So where does this leave us?" asked Sirius.
Marlene blinked and frowned in confusion.
"Leave us where?" she questioned.
"Are we an item? or are we a causal but exclusive thing?"
Marlene chuckled and caused Sirius to look slightly offended by her reaction. She patted his arm sympathetically before answering his question.
"Sweetie, I've already told you that getting into my knickers is more of a fifth date thing."
"So we're two down. Three to go. Can I say that I'm seeing you exclusively?" asked Sirius.
Marlene didn't know what she wanted from him, she liked him and he was certainly the best boy she had ever kissed but she wasn't sure if she wanted what he wanted. All he wanted from her was a quickie somewhere and a look at what underwear she wore.
"Take me to Hogsmeade next month and I'll give you my answer then." she replied.
Sirius sighed heavily but nodded and then the two of them left the classroom, Sirius feeling slightly hurt that she was making him wait for an answer to a question that he wanted to settle now.
The snow had calmed down to a light fall as James and Lily strolled through the white covered grounds. Both not caring that snow was getting caught in their hair and melting, but Lily found that wearing James's spare cloak was keeping her rather warm. She loved the fact that he was actually quite sweet to the boy she had called a toe-rag for the first six years she had known him.
"James?"
"Yes Lily?"
"Are you sure you don't think less of me?" asked Lily.
They both stopped and James took his glasses off to clean the lenses before slipping them back on his nose. He cupped her chin and pulled her face up to gaze down at her deeply, loving the way her eyes twinkled in the moonlight.
"Lily, I don't think less of you. We're both in the same situation here, and I think you're amazing for feeling that you could tell me that you haven't been with anyone." James smiled.
Lily returned his smile and stood on her tiptoes to capture his lips with her own, her hands wrapping around his neck as the kiss deepened and James arms wrapped around her waist and he lifted her off her feet.
A few feet away holding a broken bottle of butterbeer, was Severus Snape. The boy was as white as a sheet as he continued to look at the girl who had once been his best friend kissing the boy who was his enemy. The boy he had assumed was her enemy too. Clearly this wasn't the case. He and Lily hadn't been friends since the end of fifth year so he didn't know what was going on in her life, but now he needed to talk to her more than ever.
He watched as the two broke apart and James set Lily back on her feet and they continued to walk through the grounds, unaware that he had witnessed their moment. He wiped a tear away that had escaped from his eye, wishing that things had been different.
