Chapter 8: Valentine's Day

Angelina awoke the next morning and stretched. She looked around her dormitory happily. She and Katie were friends again and hopefully her friendship with Fred was on the road to recovery. Although today was the holiday she hated the most. Valentine's Day. She hated the fact that girls used this day to get their boyfriends to buy them nice things. It was just disgusting. She got up and put her feet onto the floor. It felt squishy and moist. That wasn't normal. She looked down and saw applesauce coated the floor. "Fred," she whispered. "That prat."

"Hey, Ange. . . . .what happened to the floor?" Katie asked, poking her head into the room.

"Fred, that's what happened," Angelina said.

"You did ask for applesauce," Katie said, trying not to laugh.

"I didn't mean on the floor!" Angelina cried.

"What's going on?" Alicia asked, sitting up. She looked around. "What happened to the floor?"

"Fred put applesauce all over the floor," Katie told her, leaning in the doorway.

"I can see that," Alicia said, grabbing her wand. She preformed a quick cleaning spell then got up and walked into the loo.

"What did you want, Kates?" Angelina asked, turning to the blonde Chaser.

"Oh, I just wanted to ask if I could borrow your hair care potion?" Katie said.

"Really?" Angelina asked.

"What?" Katie asked. "You get all the good stuff."

"And you can't buy it yourself because?" Angelina asked, handing her the potion.

Katie shrugged. "It's cheaper this way."

Fred sat in the common room with George and Lee planning out their next great prank, when Angelina, Katie, and Alicia down from the girl's dormitory. "Morning ladies," Fred said, rocking back on the legs of his chair. "Did you get your present?"

"When I asked for applesauce I didn't mean on the floor," Angelina said glaring.

"You didn't say where to put it," Fred said, smiling cheekily. Angelina rolled her eyes.

"You know, you should really specify these things," George said. "Besides you don't know how hard it was to get it on the floor without getting caught. Alicia grabbed me when I was beside her bed and it took Fred and a pillow to make her let me go. She kept mumbling-"

Whack!

"What was that for?!" George said to Alicia, who was standing beside him now.

"To teach you to shut your mouth," Alicia said. "I'm going to down to breakfast."

George rolled his eyes. "Still didn't have to hit me over the head," he mumbled.

"Well, ladies, shall we?" Fred asked, standing up.

Angelina rolled her eyes, but smiled all the same. Katie just ruffled Fred's hair. They walked to the portrait hole, but someone pulled on Fred's sleeve. "What, Gin?" Fred asked his little sister.

"Can I talk to you alone?" Ginny asked.

"Why?" he asked.

"Because it's important," she huffed.

"Fine," he said. "I'll be right with you guys." He turned back to Ginny. "Make it quick."

"I know how you can get Katie to be your girlfriend," Ginny said.

"Keep talking," Fred replied.

"Alright, here's how you'll have to do it. . . . ."

Katie sat in the Great Hall with Lee, Angelina, George, and Alicia. Fred had yet to make an appearance. She turned her attention back to Angelina, who was on some rant about something or another about Quidditch. It's not like she didn't like Quidditch or anything, but, honestly did Angelina have to talk about it 24/7? Just as she thought she was about to fall asleep, Fred sat down next to her. "Hey," Katie said. "Where were you?"

"Nowhere, just a bit of business," Fred replied.

Katie raised an eyebrow, but didn't say anything. She turned to her food and started to eat it, but almost choked when Fred stood up on the bench. "May I have your attention, please," he said loudly.

Angelina looked at George, but he just shrugged. "Thank you, thank you," Fred said as the Hall quieted. Though there weren't very many people there because everyone was in Hogsmeade by now. "Now that I have your attention, I would like to ask a very important question."

Katie yanked on the bottom of his robes. "Fred, sit down," Katie hissed.

"Not now, Kates, I'm just getting to the good part," Fred said. "Will you, Katie Bell, be my girlfriend?"

Fred was now looking down at her with the most hopeful look on his face. All of the Great Hall was looking at her now. She knew that she was red, but she didn't care. She didn't care that the teachers were probably giving her appalled looks; she stood up on the bench with Fred. "Well, since you asked nicely," Katie said, "yes."

Fred smiled and pulled her to him until their lips meant. His lips felt soft and tasted like cherries. Katie smiled against his lips and felt herself being lifted off the ground. She heard the clip-clip of heels, the sound of cheers from all over the room, and her friends yelling at her and Fred, ("Get 'em, Fred!" George yelled, wolf-whistling. "Finally!" Alicia exclaimed. "And Fred Weasley is locked in tight lip-lock with Katie Bell, lucky fellow, he gets one of the great Gryffindor Chasers," Lee commentated. "Thata girl!" Angelina shouted.) all she cared about right now was her lips locked to Fred Weasley's.

Fred and Katie walked down to Hogsmeade hand in hand. "George won't mind us going to Hogsmeade together? Without him?" she asked.

"I don't think so," Fred replied. "Besides, he has Angelina to keep him company."

Katie rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I'm sure she's in the mood for a good snog for right now."

"I am," Fred said pushing her up against the wall. His tongue ran along her lips and she opened her mouth smiling. Their tongues fought for dominance. After a few minutes of snogging he let her go.

"Where do you want to go first?" Katie asked.

"Doesn't matter," Fred said. "I got my supplies from Zonko's last week."

"How did you get into Hogsmeade last week?!" she exclaimed.

"Sorry, love, I'm sworn to secrecy," he said.

"Of course, you are," Katie said. "You are so annoying, you know that?"

"Yes, but I won you over, didn't I?" he said.

"Only because I'm a sucker for red hair," she replied. "It could have easily been George, or Percy, when he was here."

"Oh, I'm sure Percy would have been happy to date you," Fred said, "if he ever got his nose out of his books and rules and prefect duties-"

"Ok, maybe not Percy," Katie said.

"Face it, Bell, I'm the only guy for you," he said smirking.

"First, don't get cocky," she said. "Second, boyfriends don't usually call their girlfriends by their surnames."

Fred shrugged. "Most guys don't date their best friends."

"Touché," she replied.

"I assume you want to go to that tea shop, Madam Puddifoot's?" Fred asked.

"A herd of wild hipogriffs couldn't drag me in there," Katie said.

"Thank Merlin," he said. "Where to, lovely lady?"

Katie rolled her eyes. "How about Honeydukes?"

"Sounds good to me," Fred said, taking her hand again.

They walked down to Honeydukes talking easily, just like always. The only difference was that George wasn't with them. Katie grabbed a box of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans and a couple of Chocolate Frogs, which Fred insisted on paying for. She rolled her eyes. Men, she thought. They have to be so prideful.

"The Three Broomsticks?" Fred asked.

"Yep," Katie said smiling.

When they got there, Katie moved to the back of the pub to grab them a seat, so they could some privacy. "You want me to get you a Butterbeer?" Fred asked.

"I'll get them," Katie said, moving over to the bar where Madam Rosmerta was taking orders. "Two Butterbeers."

"Coming right up," she said, moving around to the back and getting the drinks ready. Katie waited for a few moments then the barmaid returned. "Thanks."

She walked back over to Fred, weaving her way through the crowd. "Thanks," Fred said, taking the drink from her hand.

"Is that Harry?" Katie asked as the raven haired boy went over to sit with Hermione Granger.

"Is that Rita Skeeter?!" Fred exclaimed. "She looks awful!"

"Serves her right for all those lies she told," she said.

"True, looks like the Prophet finally saw through her lies," he replied.

"I don't agree with the Prophet much these days," she said.

"Neither do I," Fred said darkly. "My prat of a brother does though."

"Percy's an idiot," Katie said. "He'll realize that soon enough."

"I know," Fred said. "It hurts mum though. She hates that we're 'divided' as she calls it."

"Percy was always a prat it was bound to happen sooner or later," Katie said.

Fred nodded. "I know, but he's still my brother."

"Don't worry, Freddie," she said. "He'll come 'round."

"You're brilliant, you know that?" he said.

"Of course, I am!" she said smiling. "I'm me."

The rest of the date went well and Katie and Fred walked back to Gryffindor Tower hand in hand. Fred muttered the password to the Fat Lady. They walked into the common room happily, but what they saw stopped them in their tracks.

George was sitting on the couch with Angelina. They were about to kiss. Fred cleared his throat. "I don't mean to intrude, but you know you could take that to the dormitory," he said.

George and Angelina had jumped apart when they heard Fred's voice. Angelina stood up. "Right. . .er. . .see you later, George," she said before heading up to her dormitory.

"See ya," George mumbled. "What are you staring at?"

"Nothing," Fred said.

"You couldn't have waited five seconds?" he asked.

"Sorry, mate, didn't expect you to be in here with Angelina," Fred replied. George rolled his eyes and walked up the stairs to the boys' dormitory.

"I'll see you in the morning," Katie said. She gave him a quick kiss. Just as she was about to go up the stairs she turned around. "Don't worry, I'll get all the details from Ange."

Fred just laughed.

A/N: Tell me what you think!
