A/N: Thanks again to all who is continuing to show their support for this story, I've started writing a new Jily fanfiction called Torn Between Two so please give that a read and leave a review.

Two weeks after her spat with Severus Snape, Lily was finding that her words were even more true than they had been when she unitentionally confessed that she was falling for James Potter. Everytime she merely glanced in James's direction, the flutterings in her stomach would go wild and light her face up with the biggest smile.

Her relationship with James was still the centre of school gossip, mostly because people thought that they were the most unlikely two that could ever begin a relationship. Lily had learned not to care, she was James's girlfriend now and nobody was going to come between them; no matter what girl threw themselves at her boyfriend, James showed no interest. He was only interested in her and for that, she fell for him more.

But on that particular Friday afternoon, she had no idea how bad her day would end. The bell rang that announced that the last class of the day was over and she exited History of Magic and felt slightly relieved that she could spend her evening in the arms of her boyfriend. They didn't have patrol tonight and James didn't have Quidditch practice, so she was looking forward to staying up until the early hours of Saturday morning in front of the common room fire; talking about pointless things and stealing passionate kisses when everyone else had gone to bed.

She turned a corner to head back to Gryffindor tower when she was hit with a stunning spell, she blacked out and fell to floor. Out of the shadows stepped Mulciber; placing his wand back inside the outside pocket of his robes and smiling evilly. Carefully, he grabbed hold of her arms and began to drag her into the broom cupboard.

James left his Care of Magical Creatures class and walked into the castle and headed in the direction of the common room, deciding that he'd like to spend some alone time with Lily after eating dinner with the boys. It would be his only chance as the following week he had a lot of Quidditch practices on due to an upcoming match and Remus would be transforming next weekend.

As he headed for the grand staircase to head for the common room, he heard a familiar voice from behind him.

"Potter!" Snape spat.

James stopped before he could walk up the staircase, he wondered what Snape wanted of him.

"What Snape? You need me to recommend a good shampoo for you?" James replied, mockingly.

"You won't find her." Avery sneered.

"Find who?"

"That precious mudblood of yours." Avery replied.

"What's that supposed to mean?" asked James, fearing what the answer could be.

"She's spending some alone time with Mulciber. He's showing her what pureblood means." Avery said, sickly.

James pulled his wand out and the next thing that the three of them knew, they were duelling in the corridor.

Lily stirred and opened her eyes quickly, finding that her vision was blurry. She had no idea what had happened and where she was, all she knew was that she had been heading back to the tower and had blacked out. After blinking a few times, her vision came into focus and she recognised that she was in a broom cupboard and the one who had brought her in this cramped space was none other than Mulciber. He sat in front of her, grinning in satisfaction that he finally had her alone.

"What the hell Mulciber?" she shrieked.

"Don't worry Evans, I've promised your old bestie that I won't harm you in anyway." the Slytherin replied.

"Then why the fuck am I in here with you?" Lily demanded.

"I have to keep you out of the way."

"Out of the way of what?" asked Lily.

"So that Avery can teach that prat Potter a lesson." Mulciber cackled.

Lily shook her head and turned away from Mulciber. She needed to get to James and fast, before he did something stupid; before he got seriously hurt. Avery and Mulciber loved the Dark Arts and she knew that Avery would do whatever he could to hurt her boyfriend. She hated Snape in this very moment, it was clear that her ex best friend had confided in his friends about her relationship with his rival and she guessed that Avery and Mulciber had come up with some sort of plan to help Snape get even with James for all the times her boyfriend had humiliated Severus.

She felt her wand in the inside pocket of her robes, she smiled slyly. It was common knowledge that Mulciber was one of the lowest achieving students of their year and so she wasn't surprised that he hadn't even thought to disarm her. She slowly pulled it out of her pocket and turned around quickly, sending a body bind curse at Mulciber before sprinting from the cupboard.

As she ran through several corridors, she heard various students reporting to Professor McGonagall about a duel going on in the grand staircase between Potter and Avery. Knowing where she needed to go, she ran faster than she had ever ran in her entire life. She needed to stop the duel before something seriously bad happened.

Lily saw James up ahead and darted through the crowd as younger students began to rush to avoid being hit by spells that were bouncing off the walls. But she felt relieved when she saw that James was unharmed, she could stop him.

"James!" Lily screamed.

He looked up to see Lily stood on a staircase above him and Snape and he stopped dueling, a look of relief came over him as he began to rush toward her. She ran towards him, flinging her arms around his neck as he caught her, his hands went to her face as he set her on her feet. Lily copied his action, desperately holding him to her.

"Thank Merlin you're okay!" James breathed.

Lily nodded and leaned in closer but before her lips could meet her boyfriend's, Avery hit a spell at James's back and the black haired boy fell into her. Lily supported his weight as she carefully lay him on the floor, her eyes wide in shock as James failed to stay concious.

"James?"

But he closed his eyes and blackness overcame him, he didn't hear her cries or pleas to stay awake, he didn't hear her mutter those three little words that she had been fearful to say to him.
