Chapter 11: Fallen Wings.
The night of the concert. Since it was actually a concert she had decided to go with a blue long shirt on top of a black shirt and shorts and she had been assured she looked fine by both Siera and Keyla, but she was still nervous and fidgety now more so because Siera had left an hour ago saying she had some stuff to do. Keyla had left not ten minutes ago for the concert. The knock on the door nearly killed her but she went and opened it anyway.
Randy was wearing a black hoodie with the band's logo on it and he smiled at her, "You know you look nice." She smiled back and left her room, locking the door behind her. Her fingers were shaking but she took his hand anyway he gave her hand a light, reassuring squeeze. She had never been this nervous in her whole life, but she felt good about it.
Being with Randy felt nice. Like he could keep her safe and she could keep him safe. When they got to the concert, there was already a huge crowd in spite of them being early so Reilly and Randy went and talked to everyone they knew and even those they didn't know. Mingling and smiling the whole while, hands clasped.
When the concert finally started there was an instant hush. The dark stage exploded with flames and the crowd soon witnessed the flames were not only from the effects but from the five monsters that walked onto stage. They all had large, beautiful wings and long draconian tails. Three males and two females. The lead singer, who held a guitar, was female and once the group ceased the fiery spectacle she walked up to the microphone in the front.
"Yeah, Monsters University!" She said with a smirk. The crowd erupted into cheers and screams and Randy as well. Calling out the band's name and the like. Reilly saw Dean Hardscrabble and her 'older sister' that she had met a while ago walk into the crowd. "Let's get this started, yeah?" The crowd yelled and whooped in agreement and the first chords of the song played.
The lead singer's voice seemed familiar but Reilly just couldn't place it. The intro of an obviously famous song echoed from the large speakers. The other instruments joined in soon in a dark way, it was obviously rock music and the kind Siera would listen to. The lead singer began to sing and her voice really hit Reilly. It was so unexpected from what she spoke like and it was so nice. No wonder Randy liked them.
As the last notes of their last song to be played tonight faded away the audience was enveloped in sighs and disappointment. Before anything, Dean Hardscrabble and her sister went up to the lead singer of the band and she smiled wearily at them before giving the audience the bands trademark hand gesture and going backstage with the other members.
Randy really wanted their autographs so he and Reilly went backstage with special permission from Dean Hardscrabble to get them. They went backstage to see the band sipping something from dark containers and chatting amiably. One of the males draped an arm around the lead singer and she turned and smirked. He held his hands up in feigned innocence and a short laugh from all of them followed.
Randy went up to them with Reilly not far behind. The other female pointed them out and they turned, putting their act back on. "Can I have your autographs?" The male that had just caused the laugh tilted his head and smiled. "Sure thing kid." Each of them signed his autograph book and he beamed at them, practically radiating joy.
Another of the males scruffed his head and a ghost of a smile touched his lips as he said something to the lead singer who giggled lightly. Reilly was now able to properly see what they looked like. Apart from the wings and tail, the entire group wore black jackets with metal spikes and an overall gothic (or emo or punk, whatever you want to imagine) dressup and outlook. Each wore a chain with their band's logo.
Each had a streak in their hair. The lead singer had a purple streak, the other female had an orange streak, one of the guys had a green streak, the one who had scruffed Randy's hair had a red streak and the one who had feigned innocence earlier had a blue streak. Randy and Reilly walked back to the dormitories, and just outside the door he stopped, "So, uh, wanna do this sometime again?"
Reilly giggled, "Anytime." As the silence closed in, neither realised they were moving closer until their lips touched softly. When they pulled away, both had red tinges in their cheeks.
