whoa - update is 5 billion years later than hoped, but here it is. ;w; please enjoy!

With a groan, Nami rolled out of bed, turning off her alarm in the process. Normally she was actually quite the morning person, but the jetlag made her feel groggy and clouded. She had arrived in Kanazawa three days ago and her apartment at campus was almost entirely set up, with only a few boxes left standing around in a corner, but they would have to wait until tomorrow. She had been lucky and didn't have to share the room – hell, she even had one of the biggest rooms available. At arrival Nami had taken several pictures and sent them to her friends in America. Today she wanted to check out the area around the campus, get some groceries and check out campus. If she'd stay inside for one more day she would go nuts. After taking a shower and getting ready, Nami grabbed her handbag with all the necessary objects in it (wallet and phone being among the most important things, along with hand cream and emergency make-up) and plugged her headphones into her ears, turning up the music on her Samsung. With Three Days Grace blasting into her ears, Nami left the apartment and made her way down the stairs. 'Yeaaah… maybe I should have learned some Japanese before going to Japan,' Nami thought to herself grudgingly as she was studying an array of cans with god knows what was in them. For all she knew she was looking at dog food right now! With a deep sigh, she ran a hand through her short, ginger hair, when she heard a chuckle behind her, followed by a female voice: "You look like you could use some help." Turning around, Nami met eyes with the raven haired woman who had approached her in English. "It's that obvious, huh?" with a slight shrug, the woman admitted: "Yeah, kind of. But don't worry, I'm quite sure that I looked like that as well when I first came to live here." "Oh? Where are you originally from?" "I'm from Russia." Nami must have looked surprised, because she was met with another chuckle. "I'm Robin." Accepting the extended hand, the ginger replied: "Nami. It's nice to meet you."

The groceries were bought swiftly now that Robin helped. The raven woman told Nami which things she should stay away from and which were safe to eat. By the time they had paid for their food, the two women got along so well, that it was as if they had known each other for years. "Hey, would you like to come over for tea?" A closed eyed smile was sent Nami's way. "Are you sure? I could be a murderer. Fufufufu~ it would be bad if you had your intestines splattered all over the wall." Nami was rather taken aback by the other's words. Blinking slowly at Robin, the ginger tried to figure out why the woman had said that and how serious she should take her. "Uhm… I guess I'll take my chances. There's security cameras at campus, so I guess I should be fine. Besides, yolo, right?" Nami laughed and this time it was Robin who was blinking. The ginger's laugh ended awkwardly and she explained: "It means you only live once… uhm, yeah, it's kind dumb really." Failed attempt at being cool number one.

"I've got a package of black tea open, is that okay with you?" Nami called from her mini-kitchen. "Black tea is fine," came the reply from the living room, where Robin was studying the several pictures on the wall. Apart from the sound of the water boiler in the kitchen, the apartment was quiet. Most of the people had gone home during the holidays and only the few people who went to summer school roamed around on the university grounds. When Nami walked into the living room with the two cups of tea, she offered one to Robin, who accepted and pointed at one of the pictures with a suggestive smile: "Is he your boyfriend~?" The picture in question was one where Nami was being hugged from behind by Sanji, a Ferris wheel in the background. With a gasp, Nami shook her head: "No, no, absolutely not, no, not ever, not him." Her ears dyed red with nervousness and she burned her tongue at the tea when she tried to drink from it to hide her uneasiness. "Sanji is nothing but a friend." "Then what's up with that reaction?" With a sigh, Nami sat down on the couch and explained: "We lived together in an apartment in New York with two of our friends who are a couple, so naturally those three hoped that Sanji and I would… well, you know, hook up." Robin sat down across from her and analysed her calmly. "And you don't want that." It had been a statement, not a question and nibbling at an edge of a nail, she explained: "nhn… you see, we're childhood friends; we've known each other forever. We learned how to read and write together, I witnessed his puberty, the terrible acne and the change in his voice. I just can't think of him as anything else than as a brother." Her expression was troubled as the black haired woman leaned forward and smiled encouragingly. "Don't worry Nami, there's lots of cute guys around here, so maybe you'll find yourself a cutie over here, fufufu~." This comment had sparked a discussion about preferences and soon the evening fell.

The buzzing of her phone drew Nami's attention away from the food she was preparing. Robin had left a few hours ago and after checking out the campus, the girl had started on making dinner. Checking to see what the notification had been for, she open her clam phone only to see that she had a new text message.

Your Sanji

Rolling her eyes, Nami decided to reply to his message later. Her Sanji, if he kept that up he'd never get a girlfriend in America. "Oh shit," Nami hissed when her food was done way earlier than expected and swiftly she took the pan off the stove. Sighing, she sat down with her food and opened her text book Japanese for dummies. Here was to hoping that everything would work out fine.
