Title: Littlest wolf
author: Cindy Ryan
pairings: Klaus/Hayley

notes and summary: see part one
It had always struck Hayley as odd that a house full of vampires would have such a well stocked and updated kitchen. The large room was top of the line from the granite countertops, cherry cabinets and marble floors. It was a lot of money spent for appearances sake They hadn't had that many human guests over the years. Hayley's favorite part of the kitchen was a breakfast nook with a bay window that looked out onto the backyard. The table was big enough for four. She collapsed into it without bothering to get any nourishment. Hayley knew the food would help her pounding head but she just didn't have the energy for that simple task.
Klaus entered the kitchen and with typical vampire speed had a meal cooked in less time than would take Hayley to assemble it. She smelled eggs, cheese and coffee. Also there was an added smell of fruit from a raspberry scone. Minutes later the plate and her favorite mug was placed in front of her and Hayley flashed the hybrid a grateful, tired smile.
"Thank you, smells wonderful."Hayley stated as she took a sip of coffee.
Klaus smiled briefly as he sat down across from Hayley. "Least I could do. Was a long night for both of us."
Hayley took a mouthful of eggs and swallowed. Her head still hurt and her stomach was in knots from the stress. She had always known there was a good chance her daughter would be a werewolf when born but Hayley had believed Klaus's theory. She'd really wanted to believe him when he assured her that the vampire side would be dominate. At least until Emily was old enough to endure the pain of the change. Seeing her daughter go through the pain; knowing what the pain was like it was almost too much for Hayley to take. After a few minutes Hayley set down the fork and looked at Klaus.
"I was so scared."Hayley whispered her throat tightening from unshed tears.
In a flash Klaus moved his chair to the werewolf's side of the table and took Hayley in his arms. She sank back against Klaus's chest relishing in his strength.
"I was afraid her little body wasn't strong enough."Hayley stated quietly.
Klaus cupped Hayley's face with his hands forcing her to meet his gaze."Emily is our daughter, luv. She's as tough as they come. First change is always the hardest; she'll be fine."
Hayley leaned into Klaus's touch and the hybrid withdrew one of his hands. Hayley took the free hand in hers and interlaced their fingers.
"I know it's silly."Hayley commented as Klaus withdrew his other hand to clasp both around hers. "I was hoping Emily would have as normal a life as possible. How can she go to school? To dances if she can't control the wolf?"
"Emily will be able to do all those things because she'll have the best teacher there is; you."Klaus stated softly. "She'll be alright, luv."
"I hope so.."Hayley whispered.
There was a long road ahead for Emily and Hayley knew none of it was going to be easy. However, Hayley found herself believing and agreeing with Klaus. If anybody could endure and thrive with the burdens of being a hybrid child it would be their daughter. And Klaus and Hayley would be there every step of the way.
