Title: mini ice-cream social
author: Cindy Ryan
pairings: Hayley/Klaus
timeline: future au
In the weeks following Emily's first transformation life returned to normal. She'd only changed once more in that time and it'd been quicker and less painful. Something Klaus chalked up to his daughter being a hybrid. He knew Hayley still worried but it wasn't as if this occurrence hadn't been totally out of the realm of possibilities. Despite the wolf-outs Emily seemed like a normal happy two year old.
It was mid-afternoon on a thursday and Klaus returned from a business meeting to the sounds of laughter. Specifically Hayley and Emily. Following the sound Klaus found them in the kitchen. Emily was in her high chair pushed up to the kitchen counter and Hayley stood on the other side a can of whipped cream in her right hand. Before the werewolf was a spread of three half gallon boxes of ice-cream of various flavors, two bottles of syrup one strawberry one chocolate, one small plastic bottle containing multi-colored sprinkles and two bowls. Inside the bowls were varying amounts of ice-cream.
"In old times this would be called an ice-cream social."Klaus stated as he stepped into the room.
Hayley smiled at him. "Well a mini one."
"Enjoying ice-cream with others same meaning no matter the number."Klaus replied as he kissed Emily lightly on the top of her head. "What prompted this?"
Hayley shrugged. "Strive for normalcy and I thought it would be fun."
Klaus rounded the corner and kissed Hayley. The werewolf set the whipped cream container down before wrapping her arms around Klaus and melting into his embrace. "
It's a wonderful idea, luv."Klaus commented once they parted.
"Glad you approve."The werewolf replied as she cleared her throat. "Want some?"
Klaus smiled at his daughter as he picked up Emily's already assembled sundae and placed it in front of her. "Miss out on an ice-cream social with the two loveliest ladies in town?"Klaus commented with a smirk. "I'll have whatever you're having."
Hayley grinned and quickly assembled the same large sundae she was having and placed it on the counter in front of Klaus a few minutes later handing him a spoon. Klaus accepted the spoon and glanced down at the sugary concoction complete with both kinds of syrup and multi-colored sprinkles and dug his spoon in. As Hayley ate her sundae Klaus observed the werewolf. He was happy to see some of the tension of the previous days had ebbed from her. At least for this moment, this afternoon Hayley was happy and so was Emily. That was all Klaus could ask for.
