"Dani..." Santana lowered her eyes, but Dani kept hers focused intently on the Latina. Whatever came next might determine Dani's lifetime happiness level. Sure, that sounded kind of extreme, but Santana might actually have that much impact on her life. "You broke me."
Dani felt her heart sinking. "I know," she answered, the pain in her voice practically tangible. "I'm going to spend every day of my life hating myself for that."
Both of them were silent for a few minutes, and Dani finally sighed.
"I guess... I'll go," she said, her voice barely audible. She choked back a sob as she stood and turned.
But then she felt a soft hand wrap around her own. She froze, a warm feeling spreading through her entire body. Oh, how she'd longed for Santana's touch. "Dani. You broke me, but... even if I've been looking better to everyone else... I'm still broken. And you're right, it's hard to forgive you. I know, though, deep down, that you're the only one who can fix me."
Dani turned slowly so that she was facing the Latina. She was surprised at their close proximity, but she didn't step back. She was treasuring this. Did what Santana say mean that she wanted them to try again?"
"Plus, you did tell me to never let you go," Santana added, her voice barely audible. Her dark eyes were searching Dani's, and the blonde really wanted to kiss her right then.
"So, what are we going to do?" she forced herself to ask.
"We can date again," Santana stated.
"Like... not exclusively?" Dani asked, her voice small. She wanted Santana to be hers again.
"Right," Santana confirmed. "But if all goes well... Well, we both know that we can't resist each other."
Dani shivered. She could feel Santana's hot breath due to their closeness, and not kissing the Latina was killing Dani. "Okay."
"Is that okay with you?" Santana asked quietly.
Dani searched Santana's eyes. "Whatever you want."
"I want to kiss you," Santana blurted.
"I want to kiss you, too," Dani admitted. They watched each other's eyes for just another moment, and then they both softly pressed their lips together. Dani immediately melted. It felt so good. She felt like she had finally arrived back home.
Her mind flashed back to their first time, which happened to be their only time. Dani didn't know how either of them had survived the month and a half that they were together after their first time, or how she had survived for the month and a half she'd been depressed in LA.
She pulled away carefully, but kept her body where it was, now pressed against Santana's. "Oh, also, I kind of need a place to stay," Dani admitted with a light chuckle.
A small smile appeared on Santana's face. "You can stay here."
"What about your parents?" Dani asked carefully. She would hate for Santana's parents to randomly come home early and find them kissing or something...
Santana sat down on the couch, taking Dani's hands and pulling her down with her. "I told them."
Dani blinked, and her heart swelled. Santana had told her parents that she was gay? Had she told them about Dani being with her? "You... you did?"
Santana smiled and nodded. "A few weeks ago. Jason convinced me to do it. My parents were cool with it, and they realized how distant we've all become, so they cut their workload down. They're home every night now."
Dani's eyes snapped over to the door.
"Relax," Santana said with a chuckle. "They won't be back for about another hour."
Dani relaxed a little. "D-do... do they k-know—"
"About you and me?" Santana finished for her. "Yes, they do. And they know what happened."
"So they hate me?" Dani asked in a small voice. Santana opened her mouth to say something, but Dani groaned. "I can't believe myself. I literally hate myself for what I did Santana."
"Hey," Santana said firmly, getting the blonde to look at her. Santana took Dani's hand in her own and squeezed it. "They won't hate you. Me and my mom talked about you a few times. We both understand where you were coming from when you left me. You thought it was best. You didn't know that I loved you. We all make mistakes, Dani."
Dani nodded reluctantly. "I almost lost you," she whispered, her voice shaky. "I thought I had lost you."
She couldn't help the tears that came rolling down her cheeks suddenly. "Aw, baby, don't cry," Santana muttered, wrapping her arms around the blonde. Dani cried into her shoulder for a moment, before sniffling.
"I'm such a pussy. I did something horrible, it's my fault I almost lost you."
"Don't worry, I like your pussy," Santana said with a laugh. Dani found herself smiling and rolling her eyes.
"Well good to know," Dani mumbled into Santana's neck.
Santana pulled away from her slightly. "Dani, if I'm being completely truthful, I still love you. I love you so much, that it hurts. And I'm still hurt from what you happened in February. It might take some time before we can be that close again... but I want you to know, that I know we can get back there. You've taught me so much, Dani, even if you didn't know it. You were always there for me. I know that you love me, and I know that I love you, and that's why I know that eventually, we'll be as close as we were before."
"It's hard not to be that close right now," Dani admitted. "I'm too used to you."
Santana gave a light chuckle and smiled at Dani adoringly. "We can be that close emotionally. I think that's important. We need to be completely open this time, or we don't stand a chance. That was our problem. No matter how hard we tried, we kept things from each other. I never told you I loved you, you didn't tell me you were leaving... we need to fix that all."
"I agree."
"I just... maybe we can wait a little bit before we be really... sexually intimate with each other," Santana said quietly.
"I understand," Dani answered with a nod. "Don't worry, my pussy will wait for you."
Santana laughed, and her smile reached all the way to her eyes as they sparkled. "Good!" She leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on Dani's lips. "I'm glad you're back, Dani. When are you leaving?"
Dani pouted. "Saturday, when Spring Break is over. I'm gonna graduate in LA, Santana, but then I'll come right back here, I promise."
Santana smiled. "As long as we can face time every day and I can come to your graduation, I am perfectly fine with that."
"Of course," Dani agreed, grinning. Then, surprising the Latina, she wrapped her up in a hug. "Santana, I apologize, but I might end up apologizing to you every day for the rest of our lives for what I did to you."
"I'll tell you what," Santana started, "one day, if and when we are both absolutely sure that we want to be together unconditionally and endlessly, you can stop apologizing, okay?"
Dani chuckled, pulling back.
"Plus, if you hadn't gone home, I wouldn't have told my parents yet. And your mom might not be as cool with you as she is now. No one would know about us, besides Kurt, Rachel, Jason and your dad and Anna," Santana pointed out.
"Good point," Dani said with a small smile. "Thank you, Santana. For giving us a second chance."
"This time, we'll get it right," Santana promised her. "I love your hair, by the way."
Suddenly, Santana's phone began to ring out loudly. Dani watched carefully as she picked it up and answered it.
"What do you want, Rach?" Santana asked, her tone even.
Dani could hear Rachel's screeching, even though the phone wasn't on speaker. "What is Dani's car doing next to your house?"
Santana searched Dani's expression as she answered. "She's here."
"Um, what?" Rachel exclaimed. "Please excuse me, I'll be over there in a moment."
"What? Rachel—"
The phone line ended, and Santana groaned, tossing her phone down next to her on the couch. Dani gave a weak smile. "She hates me, doesn't she?"
Santana shook her head. "Dani, you don't get it. No one could hate you."
"You're a little biased, aren't you?" Dani teased, leaning forward and pushing Santana down so that she was pinned against the pillows on the left side of the couch.
Santana grinned up at her. "Maybe." Dani pressed her lips softly to Santana's, and then there was a furious knocking on the door. Dani pulled back up with a pout.
"Damn, she's fast."
Before either of them could do or say anything else, the door opened and Rachel Berry came storming into the house, followed by one Quinn Fabray. "Danielle Taylor, what the hell do you think you're doing?"
Dani stood up and turned toward the front door, bracing herself for whatever was coming at her from Santana's best friends. "I—"
"No, don't say anything! You didn't tell Santana you were leaving, and then you didn't even consider a long distance relationship or even keep in touch with her? Do you even know how long it took to even act happy again? This is unacceptable," Rachel growled.
"Rachel—" Santana started, standing up.
"No, stop, Santana," Dani said softly to the Latina, before turning back to Rachel. "Look, Rachel, I know what I did. I thought it was the right thing. Clearly it wasn't. I've been dying inside, because I can't live without Santana. I'm never going to hurt her again. I'm going to come do my basics here in Lima next year, so I can stay with her while she's finishing high school, and then I'll go wherever she's going, because I'm not ever going to leave her again. I swear on my own life."
Rachel eyed Dani carefully, but before she said anything, Quinn started speaking. "Dani, I don't know you all that well... and I have to admit that I kind of speculated that you and Santana were dating before I found out. I mean, she's my best friend, I can tell when she likes someone. And I could tell that she loved you. She still does. If you don't love her as much as she loves you right now, then you should just quit while you're ahead."
Dani locked her eyes with Quinn. "I love Santana more than I've ever loved anyone else. I swear to you that I love her too much to even put into words. I literally almost died without her."
"Guys, Dani and I have been talking already, and we worked this out. We're not going to rush right back into what we were before. We're going to date, not exclusively, and we're going to be totally open to each other while we do. When we're ready, we'll get together again. We're going to take this slowly. Last time we got together, everything was way too up and down. We need to keep it up now. I appreciate what you're trying to do, Rachel, but I know what I'm doing," Santana promised.
Before anyone else could say anything, the door opened again and Santana's parents walked in. Maribel said cheerfully, "Oh hey girls! Can we crash the party?"
And then she saw Dani standing next to her daughter and froze.
"Oh, uhh..." She and Pablo exchanged a worried glance.
"Well isn't this just nice and dandy!" Santana piped up with fake enthusiasm.
Oh my goodness what an awkward situation! :P
