"Are you excited?" Santana asked Dani when they were back in the car. At the end of the dinner, Anna's date, Brandon, had swung by and introduced himself to Dani and Santana before he and Anna left to head to the school. Dani and Santana were right behind them.

"I'm beyond excited," Dani answered, daring a look away from the road to flash a smile at her girlfriend. Santana returned it widely. She was so excited to be going to Dani's prom. She'd honestly always dreamed of going to prom with someone she was actually happy with. At first, she'd only considered going with Brittany, but any thought of doing that was snatched from her mind as soon as she met Dani.

They pulled up to Dani's school. It was a lot bigger and newer than McKinley, that much Santana could by just a glance. Dani parked her car in the student parking lot and then procured two prom tickets from her purse. She handed one to Santana, and then they both got out of the car and started for the entrance of the school.

Santana snatched Dani's hand as soon they were out of the car, and Dani gave her a smile. Santana was honestly very proud of herself. She'd come so far from being that scared, closeted girl who was too scared to acknowledge two kisses that she'd exchanged with Dani.

They met up with Anna and Brandon in front of the school, and then the four of them entered the school together, handing their tickets to the teachers guarding the entrances.

The inside of Dani's school was even more impressive than the outside. Instead of opening directly into a hallway, like at McKinley, there was a huge common area. It was all decorated for prom. A long table to the right of the common area was covered in snacks and punch and soda. Balloons and decorations covered the wall, and the overhead lights were off. The only lights making anything visible were the colorful ones that flashed around the huge area.

There was a stage in the back of the common area, that seemed to be temporary, where the DJ was sitting and where there were microphones, probably for crowning the prom queen and king later.

"Man, McKinley dances are so not this awesome," Santana muttered.

"You guys had a junior prom, right?" Dani asked. Santana nodded. "Did you go?"

"Only because we had to sing the whole night. I wouldn't have gone otherwise," Santana admitted. "It's no fun going without a date."

Dani smiled and nudged her. "Next year, I'll be your date."

Santana grinned. "I look forward to it."

"Quit being so cute you two," Anna snapped jokingly. Santana just smiled.

Dani dragged Santana out into the middle of the common area to dance. They laughed and talked while they danced. They talked about Dani's graduation, about what would happen between them when Dani moved to Lima. They were also approached by many people who knew Dani and wanted to meet Santana. It was weird, being a prom and being surrounded by a ton of people that Santana had never met before.

Anna and Brandon joined them in dancing, and then there was a slow song that started playing and they broke apart again into their individual couples. Dani wrapped her arms around Santana's waist, and Santana's arms immediately went behind Dani's waist as well, pulling her closer. "I miss you."

"I'm right here," Dani whispered, staring into Santana's eyes.

"You know what I mean," Santana said. "I just can't wait until you're in Lima again. It's so hard living there and knowing that you're over here. I just want to see you every day, you know?"

"You know, legally, we can't have sex all summer," Dani teased randomly. "I'll be eighteen and you'll still be seventeen."

"It's not gonna stop me," Santana decided.

Dani rolled her eyes. "Well you better make sure you don't have any enemies over there that might report us to the police or something. The last thing I want is to be arrested."

"Don't worry, I won't let you go down unless they take me with you. Meaning that if you get stuck in a teeny jail cell, I'll be right next to you in it," Santana explained, giving Dani a sexual look. Dani rolled her eyes.

"I'm sure that would be a fun experience," she said with a laugh.

"Come on, who doesn't want to do it against cell bars?" Santana asked sarcastically, laughing.

Dani rolled her eyes again and shook her head, before pulling Santana even closer to her. "I love you so much, Santana."

Santana smiled. "I love you, too, Dani."

They closed the distance with a sweet kiss, and then the slow song ended. They pulled apart, giving each other sweet smiles. They turned and saw Brandon standing alone. "Where's Anna?" Dani asked him.

"She said she had to go help count the votes for prom queen," Brandon answered.

"Oh right, I forgot that she was on the prom committee."

"Who all is nominated?" Santana wondered, even though she would likely not know any of them.

"Not me," Dani answered with a shrug.

"Do they do prom king here?" Santana questioned. Dani and Brandon shook their heads.

"Everything is already crazy enough with the competition for prom queen. If every nominee's boyfriend was up there too, you know things would get nasty," Dani pointed out. Santana nodded that she understood.

A few minutes later, Anna and some other girl came out onto the temporary stage. "Excuse me, can we please have your attention?" the other girl said into one of the microphones.

Everyone turned toward the stage and stopped talking, ready to find out who was queen. Santana reached over and took Dani's hand as they faced the stage. The girl on the stage read off the nominees' names, and they girls came out and lined up behind her and Anna. They were all tall, size two girls that looked like cheerleaders. Bullshit. Dani was prettier than all of those girls, even though she wasn't the skinniest or tallest of all girls.

After they read out the names, Anna stepped up to the microphone with a card in her hand, probably with the name of the winner on it. She cleared her throat. "This year's prom queen is..."

Somewhere, someone did a drum roll.

"Dani Taylor!"

Dani's eyes widened and she looked at Santana in alarm. The other girl on stage tried to snatch the paper out of Anna's hand, but Anna just kept it in her grasp and then folded it neatly. As the shock of the situation, which Santana guessed didn't happen as often here as it did at McKinley, slowly went away, people started to clap.

Santana nudged, Dani, who blinked and then headed up to the stage to get her crown.

"What are you doing, Anna?" Dani asked in a hushed voice.

"Come on, Dani. You deserve to be queen," Anna said simply, smiling widely at her. "Here is your queen, Elmer High!"

There was another round of applause and then Dani hurried off the stage before the nominees could attack her. She found herself accidentally running into Santana rather than just stopping in front of her. "Those bitches are gonna kill me," Dani muttered to her girlfriend.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you," Santana said with a chuckle, leaning down to give Dani a soft kiss on the lips. Then she whispered against Dani's lips, "my queen."

Dani felt her skin heat up at the sensation of Santana's breath on her lips. Music started playing again. The song All Of Me came on, and Dani knew that she had to dance with Santana for it. "Dance with me," she commanded, wrapping her arms around Santana.

"Anything for you," Santana answered with a chuckle.

They danced together closely during the slow, love song. Dani sang a little bit of it into Santana's ear. "I'll give you all of me... You give me all of you..."

Santana said quietly to her, "I love you so much, Dani."

"I love you too."

Dani had a rough year, what with her moving around and then having probs with her relationship with Santana. She deserves Prom Queen :P xP
