Emily's POV

"What are you trying to say Hanna?" I asked feeling my heart shatter with each word, every second she prolonged her response the more I felt the heartache.

"I'm saying maybe we should take a break… As in break up.." She replied with light tears in her eyes. Right there & then I felt like a string Hanna was pulling a long, this feeling felt so familiar. It almost felt like this was Alison. Not Hanna.

"After everything we've been through. After all those times you feared I would leave you, you're going to be the one that walks away?" I said, as tears were falling down my face.

"It's not like that. I just think we both need space right now."

"We need space or do you need space!?" I asked, almost yelling.

"I just think it's for the best Emily. This doesn't mean we completely cut things off. We still live together but we're just roommates. Please don't make this harder than it has to be…" She said, with a few tears rolling down her cheeks.

"I'm not the one that's making this hard Hanna! You are! I can't even believe this is happening right now." I said rolling my eyes in frustration. "Not too long ago you were the one asking me never to leave you! What happened to that? Am I just supposed to forget that the last month & a half wasn't the best time of my life? Is that how this is supposed to work?"

"I'm sorry Emily. Just know I never meant to hurt you. I just hope we can be friends again. We were amazing that way before, I hope that can still be an option." She said, but there was a look in her eyes. A look of complete regret.

"I'm sorry too. I'm sorry for ever falling in love with you." Just as I said that I turned back, went downstairs, grabbed my keys & drove over to Spencer's.

I pulled up to the Hastings' house seeing only Spencer's car parked there, indicating she was the only one home. I walked up to the door, with several tears still in my eyes, I began knocking repeatedly until she answered.

"Can you knock anymore?" She said before looking fully in my direction. "Oh, my god. Emily what happened?"

"Hanna… We… Broke up." I said between sobs.

"Shh it's going to be okay." She said pulling me into an embrace before shutting the door.

"No it's not… She was the love of my life."

"We talked about this earlier. Emily listen to me." She said cupping my cheeks so I was looking directly at her. "I told you Hanna was hurting. This is all going to blow over. Trust me. Hanna loves you too so much she's just blinded by everything right now that it's clouding her emotions too. In the meantime you're staying here with me okay? Aria & I will go over tomorrow & get some of your things."

"Is Aria here too? I need her." I said easing up on the tears.

"She's upstairs. Let's go." Spencer said leading me up to her bedroom where Aria was.

"Emily! What happened?!" Aria asked with the same tone of shock that Spencer had. I hadn't bothered replying, knowing Spencer would do it for me.

"She & Hanna broke up."

"…Why?"

"Remember that little theory you and I had earlier?"

"Wait. You guys had a theory on us breaking up?" I asked slightly angered.

"Actually. Not breaking up but taking a break.. So together, but just giving space. We never thought it would go there. You guys love each other, Spencer & I both know you two will get over this." Aria said. I smiled a little at the hope the two still had. The hope I lost the second Hanna broke up with me.

"It all felt so familiar though…" I said trailing off on the words.

"As in this feels like Alison all over again?" Spencer guessed.

"Yeah. After Alison, I swore I would never fall for a best friend again. Then Hanna came along & I stupidly thought it would be different." Yet again more tears formed in my eyes.

"Hey Em," Aria said getting my attention. "Is it okay if I go talk to Hanna? Like... now."

"Go ahead, she's just going to tell you how she stopped loving me." I replied.

"Don't say that. Let me talk to her and I'll try to get back here before it gets even later." Aria said kissing my head before whispering something to Spencer and heading out.

Hanna's POV

Why did I just do that? How could I be so stupid, thinking that I was only doing this to protect Emily. The mixed amount of emotions I felt after she walked out killed me. About half an hour later I got a text from Aria saying she was at the front door. I walked down, letting her in.

"Hello grumpy," she said chuckling. At this point I couldn't even laugh, even if she was trying to lighten the mood.

"Hi... What do you need?"

"What I need, is to talk to you. Come on. I don't care what you say or how long we have to stay up until. We have to talk about you and Emily so let's go." She said pushing me upstairs into my bedroom.

"We don't need to talk about it," I said flopping onto the bed.

"Yes we do, and you're going to talk."

"What do you really want me to say Aria?"

"Why did you do it?"

"Because I'm only going to hurt her."

"Uhm Hanna," she said clearing her throat. "You did hurt her. She's at Spencer's bawling her eyes out."

"I mean hurt her even more then. With everything going on I realized I have been shutting her out, plus Emily deserves someone better. You even saw how I treated her. Ugh! How could I be so stupid!?" I said slamming my hand on the bed.

"Do I really need to answer that?"

"Yes, because I need to hear it."

"Okay let me start from the beginning. You're hurting, everyone can see it, so you used sex and controlling over Emily to hide that fact. Then Emily confronted you about it so you thought the only way out was to break her heart. Does that answer your question?"

"Yeah, but you could have worded it a little bit nicer."

"Too bad. Can I ask you, why are you telling me this and not Emily?"

"I just ruined the best thing that ever happened to me," I said coming to my senses.

"Normally I would say go and fix this right now, but you need to sort the things going on in your life right now and be happy so you can truly be happy with Emily. Fix yourself, don't bring her down. Please?" Aria said.

"It was never my intention to Aria. I still love her so much." I said as tears were now beginning to form at the realization of the situation.

"So much, that you contradicted yourself."

"How?"

"Uhm, you left Emily, hurt. After countless times you've told her your fear of her ever leaving you."

"Oh," I replied, feeling like a complete idiot for everything that's gone on.

"Anyways. Fix your life before you bring Emily back into it okay? I don't even know if she'll take you back after this though because you really hurt her Hanna... So much so that you reminded her of Alison," I felt like my heart dropped out of my chest at Aria's words. What if she doesn't take me back?

"I really screwed up didn't I...?"

"You did. I'm not going to sugarcoat it for you, no matter how hurt you are right now. Emily's the one in tears right now not you. So like I said. Fix it. I know you both still love each other."

"But Aria... How am I supposed to forgive my dad? You know what he did..."

"I know what he did, think of it this way, Emily doesn't even have a dad who cares for her, while you have one who's trying to make an effort to be back in your life. If you really love Emily you would fix that relationship with your mom and dad so you stop hurting, and stop feeling like you have to push everyone away. I'm serious Hanna, don't just do this for yourself, do this for Emily too. Fix your shit. All in all, I am sorry that you have to go through this," she said getting up, giving me a warming embrace.

"Thank you Aria."

"No problem," she smiled. "Oh, before I go I should probably tell you. Emily's going to be staying with Spencer for a little bit."

"What? Why?"

"Why do you think?" Aria said giving me a look, before getting up and walking over to Emily's things.

"But... I... Never mind." I said hurt as I watched Aria pack some of Emily's clothes before heading out.

"I'll see you at school tomorrow, okay? In the meantime, think of how you're going to talk to his dad."

"Okay.. Bye Aria. Thanks for coming."

"No problem. See you!" She said walking out.

The rest of the night I pondered my thoughts. Most of them relating right back to Emily. As it started to get later and later I felt my eyes become heavy, I changed out of my clothes and threw on my PJ's, I laid down on the bed turning the lamp off, it felt cold, and different not having Emily's arms wrapped around me. It all just felt so familiar and lonely. It was just like the time she went to stay at Aria's house, this time felt more heart wrenching because she and I are actually broken up. I miss her.

I woke up the next morning feeling completely empty. I knew I would have to face my parents today. It was about 7:00am when I rolled out of bed, I walked over to my closer picking out today's outfit and accessories to go along with it, I lazily dragged myself over to the bathroom to shower and brush my teeth. After I finished getting ready, I grabbed my books and walked downstairs seeing both my mom and dad in the kitchen. Taking a deep breath I walked towards them.

"Good morning mom and dad," I said smiling.

"Uhh morning Hanna," my mom replied shocked that I was speaking to her. While my dad just sat there speechless. "Where's Emily?"

"She's not here..." As my mom was about to say something else my dad cut in.

"Oh, is Emily the one that's always around here a lot?" He asked.

"Yeah... She kind of lives here," I said trying not to come off in a snobby way.

"She's also Hanna's... girlfriend."

"Girlfriend? Well I'm glad to hear that, from what it looks like she seems like an amazing girl for you Hanna,"

"Thanks dad. I'm glad that even after you've been gone for so long you can accept who I fall in love with."

"I hope you know how sorry I really am Hanna, I never meant in any way to hurt you. I know me coming back all of the sudden must have put you on a downward spiral but just know. I'm here to stay now. I will always love you no matter who you date or what you do. I'm your father, although I haven't been a good one for a while. I promise I will do the best that I can to make it up to you," he said sincerely, pulling me into a hug.

"It's okay dad trust me. You too mom, I should've heard you out when you were talking to me instead of snapping at you."

"It's okay sweetie." She said smiling, "you never really answered me though, where is Emily exactly?"

"She's out..."

"I know, you said that but she left yesterday we saw her while we were on our way in, she looked like she was crying. Is everything okay?" My mom asked sounding worried.

"No... actually it isn't. Emily and I broke up last night... Well I broke up with her."

"Because...?"

"It's really a long story," I said to my mom, not wanting to give her every single detail of what's been going on.

"Well you don't have to tell me if you don't want to but at least answer this. Do you still love her?"

"Of course I do, she is the love of my life."

"Woah, you love her eh kiddo? Sounds like you guys were pretty serious, if you loved her so much why would you let her go?" my dad asked me.

"Yeah... We were or are... Believe me it's complicated, I thought it was for the best because I was going through some things and didn't want to bring her down with me. In the end she was left even more hurt. I need to do whatever I can to get her back," I said, looking over at the clock realizing I had to leave. "Anyways I have to go now. I hope I see her at school."

"Go get em' tiger," he said flashing a smile.

"Have a good day sweetie," I heard my mom say to me as I was walking out the door.

I had to get Emily back today, we've been apart for a day and it's killing me already. I drove to school thinking of several different strategies to win her back, but none of them seemed good enough... I guess I'm just going to have to go with my instincts... Upon entering the school I noticed Spencer, Aria and Emily standing right by Emily's locker, as I was walking towards there Emily immediately turned away from me heading down the hall, before even acknowledging Spencer and Aria I chased after Emily.

"Emily! Wait! Please!" I yelled, trying to get her attention but she just continued to ignore me, I walked a bit faster grabbing on to her arm, spinning her around.

"What do you want Hanna?!" She asked, anger and pain was written all over her face. Anger and pain that I caused.

"I just need to talk to you, please don't go?" I pleaded to her.

"Why not? You needed your space, so here. I'm giving it to you," she said walking away from me.

"Please Emily... I'm trying to tell you I still love you..." I said saying the last part quietly.

"See Spencer I told you she still loves her. You owe me." I heard Aria say behind me.

"Really?" I said turning around, "you guys actually bet on this? I'm trying to get her back and you guys are betting on it. Plus shouldn't you two be running after Emily instead of being here with me?" I couldn't even tell myself if I was angry or found it funny in some odd way.

"No, because she genuinely wants space.. And well... Yeah. You told me yesterday that you still loved her, Spencer didn't believe you did so after Emily finally fell asleep, we bet on it. Obviously I won. Now we're just waiting to see how you're going to get her back."

"Yeah, no offence Han, but you really did screw up this one, big time. I would understand if it was a little fight but you actually broke up with her..." Spencer said to me.

"I know I know. I'm an idiot. I took that in yesterday."

"Indeed you are, but hey. You seem to be in somewhat of a better mood today, judging on how you were for the past few days. I'm assuming you finally spoke with your parents?" Aria asked.

"This morning."

"And what did they say?" Spencer questioned.

"Well, my dad apologized, he knows about Emily and I also, they both tried to get me to tell them the full story about what happened between us. I was sort of expecting more but the little bit they said spoke volumes. So everything there is good. I just need Emily back, it hurts not being with her. Everything just feels so... wrong.

"Happy to hear that, and what did you expect it to feel like? You let go of the love of your life, of course you're going to feel empty... Although" Spencer continues on, "I do have a plan for you to talk to her today... Aria I'm going to need your help too."

"Go for it, I'll go along with it," Aria says, agreeing.

"A plan? If it's coming from Spencer Hastings it has to be good, shoot." I say putting all my interest towards Spencer.

"Han, you have a spare for last period right?" I nodded. "Perfect, I do too. Aria, you have last period with Emily correct?"

"Yup."

"Okay, perfect. So Hanna, you and I are going to meet up at the front, we're going to the store getting candles, roses, and whatever romantic stuff Emily likes. Then we're going back to my house since she's staying there. I'm giving you two the guest room incase you guys want your make up sex, please don't though because Aria and I will still be downstairs-"

"Hold on Spence. I can tell you now, there will be no sex. I want to show Emily I love her without having to sleep with her, you know?" I said cutting her off.

"Got it. Still going in the guest room though because that's where Emily has been sleeping. Anyways, we'll be setting up that room with candles and rose petals. Aria, after school you're going to stall Emily for a bit until sunset.. So.. about 5:00-6:00, just go to The Brew."

"Wait.. Why do I have to wait that long to see her?" I asked.

"We're getting candles... You can't let candles illuminate the room if there's still daylight Hanna," Spencer said.

"Oh... yeah... Continue."

"Basically, you and I will set up the room all cute and then Around... Let's say 5:30 Aria will bring Emily back here, Emily will obviously come up here to change or whatever and you'll be here."

"What if she walks out as soon as she sees me?"

"That's a possibility... I would say we could lock you two in there but trust me. Emily wants you back just as bad, she'll hear you out if it's in private, unlike today where you tried to talk to her in the middle of the school." Spencer said, "everyone got the plan?"

"Yes ma'am," Aria and I replied in unison. Hearing the bell ring for class, "perfect timing," I said saying goodbye to my friends and heading to class. Throughout the day my mind wandered off to Emily in every single class I had. I saw her in English but she didn't even turn around to look at me. I spent the duration of the class writing Hanna + Emily all over my page enclosing each in hearts. By time lunch rolled in I just went off to do my own thing, leaving Emily with the girls. When it was third period I couldn't stop staring at the clock, I was anxious to get out as soon as the time showed that there was five minutes left until I could get out. The second the bell rang I ran out of the classroom, quickly meeting Spencer at the front of the school.

"Woah you got here faster than I expected," Spencer said laughing.

"Ha. You're so funny. Can we go now?"

"Yeah, do you wanna drive over to your house first so you can drop your car off & we'll just go with mine?"

"No because I have to bring Emily back with me & she has her stuff with her."

"What makes you so sure you're going to get her back tonight even if we have have all this planned?" Spencer asked walking over to her car which was parked beside mine.

"I know I'm going to. I have to."

"You make it sound like some mission."

"Shut up." I said causing Spencer to throw her arms up in defeat. "Where to first?"

"Flower shop, I think that's the only place we need to go… I have stacks of candles at home so…"

"For you & Toby?" I said winking , whiling opening my car door.

"Okay, you shut up now. Anyways, which flower shop?"

"The really nice one in Brookhaven," I said smiling like a kid who was about to get ice cream.

"Why so far?"

"Because we have like 3 hours to kill, just get in your car. I'll lead."

"Just don't get us lost Han!"

"Whatever…" I said climbing into the front seat, starting the engine. I quickly check my gas meter making sure I had enough to make it to Brookhaven & back. The drive there didn't seem as long as it was. Most likely because Spencer & I were on the phone the whole time, on speaker of course, making more plans & talking about Emily. The parking lot was fairly empty, making it a lot easier for us to park beside each other.

"Well looks like we're here," Spencer said scanning the area.

"Looks like it's really nice, not sketchy like half the places we usually go."

"Okay, shut up & walk in," Spencer said pushing me towards the door, we both stepped in getting a strong scent of freshly cut flowers being soaked in water. "Look! Osiria roses! Aren't those Emily's favourites?"

"Yeah, how did you know?" I asked.

"Hanna, I'm her best friend, just because you are… or were her girlfriend doesn't mean you know more than I do."

"Well there are some things…" I said smirking, hoping Spencer would catch on.

"Oh yeah like what?" She asked as if challenging me.

"Well… In bed—"

"Okay, never mind. You win." She said, cutting me off.

"Told you... Anyways back to the task at hand, Osiria roses. Where did you see them?"

"Over there in the corner," she said pointing to the back of the shop.

"Perfect," we walked over, inspecting all the flowers before picking up a dozen that looked the best of all. Walking over to the counter I paid for the flowers, before heading out I also bought an "I'm sorry" card.

"Well that took all of two seconds.. & we still have two hours. So it takes about an hour to get back to Rosewood, then when we get there set everything up & Aria should be bringing Emily over not too long after," Spencer clarified.

"Okay, let's go!" I said getting into my car, once we got to Spencer's house the two of us completely redecorated the guest bedroom, moving around all of the furniture. While Spencer was busy setting candle around the room I took two of the roses breaking the steams off so I would only have the petals, after separating them I neatly placed them in a shape of a heart on the bed. Attempting to re-create the scene as it was on our anniversary.

Emily's POV

After school since I had last period with Aria she & I walked out together.

"Where's Spencer?" I asked.

"I don't know, probably at home. She did have a spare…"

"Oh yeah! I completely forgot, I'm always thinking it's only Hanna that has a spare…" As I said Hanna's name a frown came across my face which Aria must have noticed.

"Hey, cheer up! You don't have swimming today, right?"

"I'm trying to, & no. We normally don't have practice the day after a meet. Why?"

"Just curious. How about we go to The Brew, I think we could both use some caffeine right now."

"We could or you could? Aria you bleed caffeine," I said laughing at the fact.

"Whatever," she said laughing, "come on, let's go." We both walked over since neither of us had our cars & Spencer was the one that drove this morning. As soon as we walked in we noticed the place was flooding with people, thankfully no one took "our spot". After some time we ordered our drinks then took a seat.

"So how have you been?" Aria asked.

"Well it's only been a day, so I'm still hurting… A lot more than I thought I would, but it's whatever now."

"Don't say that!"

"Aria.. Why are you trying to give me false hope?"

"I'm not! I'm just trying to say that people who love each other as much as you & Hanna… That love just doesn't die.." Aria sympathized.

"Too late.. It's already dying… " The two of us sat in silence for a few minutes

"I'm seriously telling you, love like that doesn't die. You see how many stupid fights Ezra & I get into, right?" I nodded my head in agreement, "exactly! At the end of the day we still love each other unconditionally."

"But that's you & Ezra. Hanna & I are different," I tried to explain.

"The amount of love you two share is the same. Trust me. Don't lose hope after a day."

"Alright… Can we head back to Spencer's now? It's getting kind of late," I said looking outside, taking notice that the sun was beginning to set.

"Wow, time flies. Let's go," Aria & I both walked out & over to Spencer's where Aria was spending the evening & I was spending the night. Walking in we saw Spencer in the kitchen, with her hand hovering over a few slices of pizza deciding which one to take.

"Of course… Walk in to see Spencer getting food. Why am I not surprised?" Aria jokingly asked.

"Ha. You're so funny Aria," Spencer said fake glaring before turning her attention to me. "Hey Em, how are you feeling?"

"Still bad, I really don't feel like talking about it right now since Aria & I literally just talked about it.. Too much Hanna for me to deal with. I'm going upstairs to take a nap if thats okay with you."

"Go ahead," Spencer said smiling uncontrollably.

"You're so weird," I said walking up to the the guest room, I noticed the door was closed, from the bottom it looked as if the room was being lit by candles. "What's going on?" I asked myself in a hush tone. I took a few steps forward, opening the door, seeing a certain blonde standing in the middle holding a set of my favourite roses, this almost didn't seem real.

"Hanna…"

Okay so since I had them break up in this chapter, I'm obviously not going to do a break up and make up in the same chapter. As of now, it's still 50/50 - some want them to be together, others want drama. I'll be taking votes in the reviews, so let me now EXACTLY what you want to see happen because I can't really do much with 50/50 votes :\. Sooo! Love or drama?
