A/N: Hmm...21 chapters isn't seeming as far off as I thought now. Well, we'll see.
As the next few days progressed, Yuri realised that Flynn seemed to be avoiding him. Whenever they talked, Flynn would be awkward around him. If they were sitting next to each other, Flynn would move away a little. He couldn't look Yuri in the eye, and it was starting to irritate him.
On the side, though, it also hurt Yuri a little. He wasn't sure why Flynn was acting like this, but he wished he would stop. If only he knew the reason..
Flynn's behaviour didn't stop Yuri doing what he was supposed to do, though. He made sure Flynn didn't move around much, getting him food, drinks and painkillers occasionally. Flynn thanked him each time, but it seemed automatic rather than having any real feeling behind it.
Flynn had headed to his room to sleep for a bit, hoping to escape the pain that way, and Yuri was left with nothing to do. He didn't want to switch the TV on in case he disturbed Flynn, but it didn't look like Raven had many books either. There were a couple of magazines lying around, but Yuri quickly finished both of them and was once again left with nothing to do.
He sat back, sighing. Closing his eyes, he let himself relax a little, trying to ignore his uncertainty and fear.
A scream echoed, and he turned, eyes alighting upon the figure. Blood streamed down his body, eyes lifeless as his body fell to the ground.
"No!" he cried, running towards him, then heard another cry. He turned again, once again met with the same image. Backing away a little, he closed his eyes, trying to block out the images.
"Who do you think you are? To even be near me...I don't want you around anymore. Get out of my sight!"
He opened his eyes, gaze meeting the others, and felt fear rise.
"Please, don't! I'm sorry!"
"I don't want to hear excuses! LEAVE!"
Darkness rushed over him and he cried out, ducking and covering his face. Suddenly he heard a bang and turned, watching as the bullet hit their body. They flew back slightly before crashing to the ground, eyes wide.
"Oh god...Oh god, please, be alright.." he stammered, hurrying over to him and trying to stop the blood.
"This...is your fault..." he hissed before he fell limp.
"No, please, wake up! Please!"
His cries were meaningless however. He heard another shout and turned, watching as their limp body fell towards him, blood coming from their mouth and their body crimson.
He reached up, grabbing him, but it was too late. The body vanished in his arms and he turned, desperately searching for them. Again and again, the image of his lifeless body or burning eyes met him, and he fell to his knees, sobbing.
"Please, stop! I'm sorry!" he shouted, trying to cover his ears against the noise.
"You would abandon me?!"
"No! I would never!"
"Coward!"
"I'm sorry!"
"You should just die!"
Flynn gave a wide yawn, going to the sofa and sitting down. He glanced at the chair, realising Yuri was in it and wondering why he hadn't said anything. Then he blinked.
Tears streamed down Yuri's cheeks, and he was panting, fingers flexing as if trying to grab something.
"Please..." he mumbled.
Flynn hesitated, then shook his head before standing up and gripping his shoulder. He shook him, trying to wake him, but Yuri didn't respond.
"Yuri! Snap out of it!" he said.
Yuri's hand suddenly went to his, gently cradling it. He lifted his gaze, his tear-stained face meeting Flynn's. His eyes looked almost broken, and Flynn hesitated.
"I'm sorry.." Yuri whispered, fresh tears slipping down his cheeks.
"Are you awake or asleep? Idiot," Flynn said gently, lifting his hand away.
Yuri quickly gripped it again, never looking away from Flynn. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I...I don't know what I've done, but I-I'm sorry. Please. I'm sorry."
Flynn frowned. "What are you talking about? You haven't done anything.."
"I'm sorry...Please, don't go. I'm sorry. Please don't die. Please.."
Flynn blinked. What was Yuri going on about? His nightmare must have been pretty weird for him to act like this...unless he was still asleep.
There was a knock on the door and Flynn looked up before glancing down at Yuri. "Yuri, you need to let go, I have to answer the door."
Yuri's expression immediately became stricken and terrified. His grip tightened, and Flynn gave a brief flinch before sighing.
"Fine, come with me then," he said. Yuri obediantly stood up, padding after him as he walked to the door.
Flynn quickly opened it, stepping back to let Judith in. She smiled then blinked as she spotted Yuri.
"...Is everything alright? I'm not disturbing something, am I?" she asked.
"No...Yuri was having a nightmare, but when I woke him up he got like this."
"Oh?"
"He keeps saying he's sorry...And he asked me not to leave or die. He doesn't even want to let go of my hand. I'm not entirely sure what to do, to be honest."
"I think it's rather obvious," Judith said.
"Really? What's wrong with him?"
"You are."
"Huh?"
"I've noticed it too; you're becoming a bit distant from Yuri. Maybe you haven't noticed, but because of how awkward you're acting, you've been pushing Yuri away. And this is his response. He's probably not fully woken up yet."
Flynn glanced down at the almost child-like Yuri, biting his lip. Just ignoring him for a week got him like this?
"Isn't that going a bit too far? To get this dependant, I mean."
"Hmmm...Let's sit down, and I'll see if I can make some guesses," Judith decided.
The three of them took a seat, Yuri and Flynn on the sofa, Judith on the chair. She smiled at Yuri when his gaze met hers.
"Hello Yuri. I'm Judith. Do you remember me?"
Yuri nodded slowly, moving a little closer to Flynn.
"Can I ask you some questions?"
He nodded again, perking up a little.
"They may be rather personal, so try not to get too upset, okay? And you don't need to answer if you don't want. I'm going to start from you being young and work my way up, okay?"
He nodded once more, now looking confused.
"Did you ever know your parents?"
Yuri blinked then shook his head slowly.
"Hmm...They both died when you were young?"
A nod.
"About one or two years old?"
Yuri shrugged, and she nodded.
"Alright. Did you grow up on the streets?"
A nod.
"Did you ever steal?"
Nod.
"Did you ever hurt anyone?"
"...Not on purpose," Yuri mumbled.
"And I assume you fought a lot too, did you?"
Nod.
"Did you live with someone for a while? Or any length of time?"
Shake.
"Did people help you, though?"
Nod.
"Hmm...You've never really trusted anyone, have you."
Shake.
"Why did you come here, then?"
"...I was tired."
"Of what?"
"...People. Life. I just wanted to fade away."
"You wanted to die?"
"I guess."
Flynn stiffened, his grip on Yuri's hand suddenly becoming tighter, and Yuri glanced up.
"Why didn't you, then?"
"...I don't know. I kept hoping someone would help before I did. But I didn't care if I did die."
"And that's why you rely on Flynn, right?"
"...Yeah."
"Could you explain a little more?" she suggested, glancing at Flynn, who now looked confused.
"No one ever helped. A lot of people knew it was happening, but if I complained or asked for help, they pretended they didn't know or took their side. But...Flynn helped. He was like some sort of angel that was sent to look after me...He protected me. He saved me. When I was going to die, he looked after me. When I was lonely, he reached out to me. I wanted to help him back, but I could never do anything that really matched up to it. He saved who I am."
"And what was your nightmare just now about?"
Yuri lowered his gaze. "Flynn kept dying. I'd try to help, but he kept dying. I wanted to save him, but he always...He hated me. He hates me.." Yuri rubbed his eyes, looking upset. "I don't understand why he hates me. What did I do wrong? Did I say something? Am I too clingy? I'm sorry.."
Judith smiled gently, patting his head. "It's okay. You don't need to be sorry. It isn't your fault, it's Flynn's. He's being an idiot, you see," she explained.
"But.."
Judith looked over at Flynn. "He's not going to listen to me, you know. You need to calm him down."
Flynn bit his lip, then gave a sigh and put his arm around Yuri, keeping the other hand in Yuri's grip. "I didn't mean to get so...distant from you," he mumbled.
Yuri looked up, then laid his head on Flynn's shoulder. "I'm tired..." he mumbled.
"Then go sleep, you idiot."
Yuri gave a slod nod, his eyes drifting shut, until his breathing evened out.
Flynn looked over at Judith, who was smiling knowingly. "Did you realise he was going to get like this?"
"No. I had no idea, actually. Even on the school records, there's very little about Yuri other than he lives alone with no living relatives. I was just guessing based on his reactions."
"...I've been an idiot, haven't I," Flynn realised.
"Yes, you have. And this is what happens when you let that idiocy take over. Yuri is not someone who cares about small things like preferred sexuality. You are Flynn, the person who saved him and gave him a life he'd given up on."
"I never realised he used to think like that...I'm really glad I managed to help him before it got to that point."
Judith nodded, giving a light frown. "Yes...I suppose Yuri's never properly opened up to anyone, so to think he ever had thoughts like that is a little worrying...Still, it seems he's fine as long as he's with you." She smiled, then stood up. "Alright, I'll give you a little examination while Yuri's still out of it and leave you two to your own business," she decided.
A/N: Don't even ask. I think my head was in a weird place when I wrote this bit...It's all one chapter because I wanted to get it out of the way, basically.
