"How you feeling, mate?" asked Enzo leaning against the trunk of his car.

"I have a splitting headache," said Damon holding his head.

"Well, this brings back memories. Glad to see you back. I figured Stefan would want to feed you cow blood all day long. I knew wherever you've been you'd need something stronger," said Enzo.

"Thanks for looking out. I just lost myself with no turn back sign in sight," said Damon wiping the blood off his hands on his jeans. His shirt soaked with dried up blood.

"Well, this is going to be a short reunion. I just figured I owed you mate," said Enzo hesitating he could hear a human approaching. That could only be Bonnie he thought. He never thought he'd be excited to see another human, but it was good that she was there. That way Damon would be reluctant to kill him in front of her.

"For, what! Why?" asked Damon quizzically.

"For sleeping with Elena, the whole time you were gone."

"You bastard," he said hitting Enzo square in the jaw.

"I should have known it was going to be Elena as usual for you," said Bonnie from behind them.

Damon turned around startled, "Bonnie its not like that."

"Save it," she said turning back the way she came.

"What's going on between you and Bonnie?" smirked Enzo his interest peeked.

"Elena, was the woman I died for. I found out the hard way that you don't find a person worth dying for. You find a person worth living for," said Damon turning back to Enzo.

"Elena is that person for me, mate. I need you to step aside and let her go. No matter what happens between you and Bonnie," he said figuring he was just using the little witch as a distraction.

"I hit you because my best friend was sleeping with my ex. I didn't hit you because that Ex was Elena. I'm borrowing your car I need to find Bonnie. The only women I want," said Damon hopping into the drivers seat of his car.

She practically disappeared into thin air because Damon couldn't find her anywhere. He searched his mind for the last place she was staying before they disappeared and ended up at her dorm. He knocked and the door opened it wasn't locked. The room seemed empty she definitely hadn't been there tonight. He sat on her bed and waited figuring she'd show up eventually.

"Why doesn't she hate you?" asked Jeremy coming into the room.

"Don't you think that's something you should be asking her," commented Damon wearily.

"I will once you tell me where she is."

"Well, let's see I've looked for her here," he said looking around. "Do you see her cause I don't."

"Did you know the whole time she was gone I paid for her cell phone bill just so I could hear her voice?" stated Jeremy. "She better be okay Damon or the next time you see me you will regret it."

Damon watched him leave. He could've threw everything that had happened between him and Bonnie in the naive little boys face, but it wasn't his place. Bonnie wouldn't take kindly to that if she found out and he had hurt her enough for the night. He picked up the phone on the beside table and called her cell. It was a long shot, but he had to try and see if she would pick up. It went straight to voicemail.

"I'm in your room. Weird, huh. We have managed to defy all possible and global scenarios because of what you did for me. You saved me. . .again. I miss you. We've been apart long enough. Please don't leave me Bon-Bon."

He hung up the phone on its cradle and got up and left the room closing the door behind him.

Bonnie stood in Matt's backyard and listened to the voicemail. She couldn't help, but smile because she knew he still loved her. She turned off the phone and held it close to her chest.

"What's going on with you and Damon?" asked Elena walking through the patio doors.

"Were you just ease dropping on me? Asked Bonnie annoyed.

"I'm a vampire. Super-hearing it's what we do," replied Elena shrugging.

"No, it's just what you do and maybe Caroline," laughed Bonnie wanting to lighten the mood. She really did miss her best friend.

"You gonna just stand their or are you going to give your best friend a hug," said Elena holding out her arms.

"Of course," said Bonnie grinning as she practically lept in her friends arms.

Elena stiffened up and Bonnie let go. Still smiling as she looked up at her friends face that had suddenly hardened towards her. "Elena."

"Why do you have two heart beats?" she asked turning her head as if listening intently. "Oh my god is that Damon's. . ."

"Yes, the baby's ours," replied Bonnie her hurt breaking from all the pain she knew she was causing her friend.

"And he asked you not to leave him because he's worried about the baby right?" she pleaded with her eyes.

"I love him, Elena," said Bonnie stepping back wanting to get a safe distance from her.

"I loved him, too," said Elena her voice raspy as tears filled her eyes.

"You think that just because we both love Damon that we're alike? We're not. I value who he is. Which is something you can't do. He will always need to change to be worthy of your love."

"Don't be dumb! He was with you out of loneliness and survival. You were just an object to him not a real person to be loved," snapped Elena who couldn't believe she was saying these things out of her own mouth.

"Damon didn't sleep with me because you weren't around. He slept with me cause he loves me. Can you say the same for Enzo?"

"You know about Enzo. Stupid Caroline couldn't even wait a whole day before telling everyone," said Elena shaking her head in disbelief.

"Actually, Enzo told me," said Damon stepping out onto the lawn.

"Damon," cried Bonnie relieved.

"Matt, told me you were here," said Damon addressing Bonnie.

"I can explain."

"I can't now there's someone else I need to talk to first," said Damon looking at Bonnie.

Elena looked between the two of them and walked silently back into the house.

"Damon," she started.

"Don't say anything just listen."

She nodded.

"You were never supposed to mean this much to me. I was never supposed to fall so hard. But you know what? I did because falling in love with you was uncontrollable and that's the truth. That's what keeps me holding on because it hurts like hell to let you go," he said grabbing her hands in his. As he leaned down his forehead touching hers.

"I became your friend reluctantly out of choice. Loving though that snuck up on me and I didn't see it coming. Now that it's hear I'd hate to let you go for Elena or anyone else," she whispered standing on her tiptoes to kiss his soft lips. As the safety of his arms wrapped around her.

He broke their kiss giving her a chance to breath. "I need to talk to Elena now and I need you to trust me."

"I do," she nodded emphatically. "I'll send her out."

Damon watched the mother of his children go back in the house and steeled himself against the tough conversation to come. He sat on a nearby patio chair rubbing his hands together nervously.

"You're not Elena," smiled Damon happy to see his friend Alaric.

"I asked her to wait so I could get a minute."

"She actually agreed to that."

"I think she needs more time to think. I think you do to," said Alaric.

Damon looked at him sideways, "Then you don't know me as well as you think you do. I've never been more clear."

Alaric pulled the extra chair beside Damon. "She loved you too much and it was killing her."

"I'm flattered, but she's sleeping with Enzo. There's no coming back from that."

"You can't try to get over Elena by revenge fucking Bonnie."

"Is that what you think this is. Then maybe you weren't listening all that well. I love her she's the girl that makes me realize why it never worked with anyone else. Elena, Katherine It all means nothing now. Bonnie's my future."

"This is kind of sudden Damon. Why rush into a major decision like this now?"

"Sudden! I've been with Bonnie almost two years and if you knew our history together nothing was sudden or rushed," yelled Damon his temper flaring.

"Damon, you've only been gone three months," replied Alaric.

"It doesn't matter. I don't want to talk about this anymore," said Damon flipping over his chair a slight edge to his voice.

"Alright," said Alaric switching tactics. "Let's talk about me. I owe you an apology."

Damon lowered his eyes at him and through gretted teeth asked, "What did you do?"

"Honestly, I'd given up on you ever returning. I supported Stefan, but I was just going through the motions. I was more worried about being a vampire than bringing you back."

"Being in that place must have made me soft. Because I actually forgive you. Everything worked out the way that it should. If you don't believe anything else believe that I'm happy now with Bonnie."

"It's not me you will have to convince," said Alaric evenly getting up from his seat and heading towards the patio doors.
