Author's Note: Once again, I'm sorry. I know sorry doesn't cut it, but lately I've been swamped with everything. Senior year is killing me, but luckily I have less than a month less. Hopefully I won't do anything stupid before then, but hopefully the next time I post I won't have to say I'm sorry at the beginning.
Disclaimer: I don't own shit.
"Oh, Shit! I think I accidentally deleted the file," Quinn hissed, pretending to scramble and search for the file in the various folders that littered her screen. Rachel shrugged knowingly, as a fellow student, she knew just how fucked up the world could be when it came to assignments due the next day. She's had her fair share of deleted files, broken printers, and other forms of fuckery when it came to school work. It also helped that Rachel had no problems with spending more time with the blonde.
"That's fine, we still have plenty of time to kill," Rachel replied, nonchalantly. She chuckled lightly when she saw her panicking friend suddenly stop and gape at her.
"You're not mad?" Quinn questioned, shocked that Rachel wouldn't even be the slightest bit upset by the news. Rachel hadn't even faltered at the news, in fact she looked as relaxed as ever stretched out on her bed. The blonde couldn't help but take this as a chance to marvel in the sight of those gloriously toned abs. She wanted to reach out and touch them..
"Not really, I know you just want to spend more time with me," The brunette smirked. Quinn faltered for a second, staring at the girl.
"Yeah right, Man Hands, in fact, I think the reason you're so cool about the file missing is because you want to spend more time with me."
"Well, I did mention earlier that I don't really mind hanging out with you to be honest," The volleyball player admitted looking away from the blonde and not noticing the small smile that graced the blonde's lips. "Anyways, let's get this thing done… again." Rachel stated, before letting out a small chuckle. Quinn swatted her arm, starting the recording once again.
By the time they were finished it was already half passed four, they would have finished sooner if Rachel hadn't started messing around the third or fourth time around. Quinn saved the last file as well, considering Rachel was watching behind her back to make sure she actually did it this time.
Rachel checked her watch before sliding off the bed to get ready for open gym. "So, do you need a ride to your party or whatever?"
"Actually, do you think you could drop me off at Santana's, I told her I would get ready with her and Britt," Quinn replied.
"Sure, but do you mind if I pick up one of my friends along the way?" Rachel questioned, grabbing a few articles of clothing from the various drawers of her dresser.
"Nope," Quinn said, curious as to whom they would be picking up.
"K, cool" Rachel mumbled, walking into her bathroom to change. After a few minutes, she reappeared in a simple shirt and spandex with her hair held up in a tight ponytail with her hair held back by a black headband. Quinn couldn't help but acknowledge how hot Rachel could look in just her practice clothes. She grabbed her sports bag that was hanging on her chair, and snatched the car keys from the corner of her desk and looked to Quinn to see if she was ready to go. When she saw her standing there with her things all packed up, she opened her door and prompted for Quinn to leave first out of courtesy and also, to once again check out her ass on their way down the stairs. Quinn Fabray had a glorious ass, if Rachel did say so herself. She had to stop herself from subconsciously reaching out to touch it as they walked. Being the chivalrous girl that she was, Rachel proceeded to open the front door as well as the car door for her before heading to the driver's seat of the car. The drive to Rachel's friend's house started off pretty quietly until the chime of Quinn's phone broke the silence.
"Shoot, Santana's just informed me that the party's been cancelled and something about getting her mack on with Britts." Quinn groaned, knowing Santana would be the type of person to choose sex over her best friend.
"Oh, that's fine, I can take you back to your place after we pick up Poppy," Rachel said.
"No! uh.. that's nonsense, my house is in the opposite direction… I'll just wait with you at your open gym until Santana can pick me up…" Rachel couldn't help but notice the way Quinn jumped when she mentioned the option of taking her home. Weird.
"I think we both know that Santana won't be done for a while… I can just drop you off after if you like?" Rachel offered, choosing not to press on the idea of dropping her off now rather than later. It could have been nothing but it unnerved the brunette to no end, she'd probably ask Santana if she knew anything. "It's usually two hours long but we can leave early if you get really bored."
"Okay," Quinn agreed, she actually really enjoyed watching the girl play.
After a few minutes Rachel pulled into the driveway of a large two-story house and pulled out her phone to text her arrival. A few minutes later a tall blonde in similar attire to Rachel's came bounding down the steps. When she saw the head cheerleader sitting in the front seat she felt a smirk grace her lips.
"Sup, Babe. Hey… Quinn," Poppy chirped, hopping into the back seat. "Are you going to work out with us after, Rach?"
"Uh… probably not, actually," Rachel mumbled, noticing the way Quinn's head shot in her direction.
"I thought you were?" Quinn muttered. "If you can't go because of me, I told you I could just wait for Santana to pick me up."
"Nah, I just don't really feel like working out." Poppy failed to hold back a snort, enjoying watching the way the two conversed. They both knew that Rachel loved to work out; it was one of the many odd quirks about the girl.
"Sorry," Poppy chuckled. Quinn noticed as Rachel glared at the girl in the back seat.
The rest of the car ride was filled with an awkward silence until Rachel pulled up into a parking space of William McKinley High School. Poppy hopped out of the car as soon as it was in park, muttering thanks before scurrying towards the main building.
Rachel got out of the car and quickly moved over to the passenger side to open the door for Quinn.
"My lady," Rachel drawled, holding her hand out and bowing in a grand fashion.
"You're such a dork," Quinn laughed, walking away from the girl. Rachel quickly followed after she grabbed her duffel from the back seat.
When Quinn finally entered the gym, with Rachel trailing behind a few steps she was surprised by the significant amount of people there. She honestly expected just the girls on the team, but the boys from the volleyball team were there as well as a few people she didn't recognize.
"C'mon," Rachel said as she dragged the girl along towards the bleachers, loving the way Quinn's hand felt in hers. Her hands are so soft… and nice and perfect,Rachel thought, not wanting to let go. The blonde was shocked when the girl first took her hand, but now she was currently having the same thoughts as the other girl. When they reached their destination next to a few sports bags littered around, they both knew they'd have to let go soon but decided to linger for a second only to be interrupted by a high pitched squeal.
"Rachel!" a beautiful brunette came bounding over, snatching the girl from Quinn's grasp and lifting her off her feet to twirl her around.
"Woah! It's nice to see you too, Ave," Rachel laughs once she's set down. Quinn's eyes narrowed at the two, the other girl suddenly looked very familiar, but she couldn't pinpoint where she knew her from. Even if she did know her, Quinn had no idea who she thought she was holding Rachel like that.
"Hi, Quinn," Avery smiled.
"Who are you?" Quinn hissed, glaring at the girl.
"Avery, well Gabriel Avery Hale technically, uhm.. I'm on the Cheerios," Avery replied, the smile slowly dropping from her face.
"Oh," Quinn nodded, realizing that she was one of the many cheerleaders she's overlooked. "Well then, what are you doing here?"
"Playing volleyball," Avery chuckled, "Open gym's open to everyone, Rachel invited me one night over the summer, and I've been coming ever since." Avery smiled brightly over at the petite brunette who was watching the two as she put on her gear. "Oh! Rachel, how was the game against Carmel, I'm sorry I couldn't be there! Columbus with my parents was a drag, I don't even know why they made me go to be honest. Anyway, tell me what happened!"
"We totally kicked ass! Didn't the girls tell you," Rachel asked, grinning up at the cute brunette.
"Well yeah, but I wanted to hear it from you, give me details." Rachel started to gush about everything that happened at the game and Quinn hated the aching feeling that grew inside her chest from watching them. They seemed so comfortable around each other, holding each other's arms as they both bent over, laughing at something Rachel said. And since when the hell did Rachel start hanging out with Avery, Quinn thought, planning to put the brunette in her place next practice.
When Avery sprinted off to join a match, Rachel plopped down in the seat next to Quinn. "So, are you sure that you don't want me to drop you off anywhere?"
"Nope, really Rach, I'm fine," Quinn smiled. Rach, the brunette sighed, loving the way Quinn said her nickname like that.
"Well then… how about joining us?" The volleyball player grinned, hoping to see how the girl could play.
"Nope, definitely not. Besides haven't you heard of the age old volleyball players versus cheerleaders?" Quinn asked. "Obviously Avery hasn't," she muttered under her breathe.
"Oh gosh, you can't really believe that stuff, right? I mean yeah, volleyball girls are definitely cooler, and the majority of cheerleaders are kind of obnoxious but the whole feud between them is ridiculous. In fact, I think it'd be kinda hot to see the two of them together," Rachel smirked, allowing her thoughts to wander to something too dirty for anyone else's ears.
"You're disgusting," Quinn muttered, annoyed with her response.
"Oh, c'mon you know I'm just kidding!" Rachel laughed. "And besides, it's all completely ridiculous and stereotypical."
"Whatever, I'm still not joining you."
"I see, you just want to admire me from over here." Rachel clicked her tongue and winked as she backed away to go warm up with some other players. Throughout the entire time that they were there, Quinn couldn't help but do exactly as Rachel said.
Rachel sauntered over to the blonde for what felt like the hundredth time that they were there, and Quinn probably would have murdered her if she had asked if she wanted to go home or if she was okay. Luckily, Rachel was only there to pack up and decided not to mention anything to the girl. She grabbed her bag and scooted away from Quinn, kicking off her shoes. The girl cringed as she slid off her sweaty kneepads and held them away from herself as she threw them inside her sports bag.
"Aren't you going to wait until it's over?" Quinn asked.
"Nah, these guys can keep playing for hours," Rachel shrugged, pulling on her sweats. It was already seven o' eight when she checked her phone, and it was pretty dark out; she didn't want to keep the blonde out for long.
Quinn nodded in reply, not willing to argue. Rachel waved goodbye to a few of the people there as they left the gym. The long trek to the car was filled with an awkward silence, the only sound being their quiet footsteps.
"So, how do you know Avery?" Quinn questioned, desperately clawing for some conversation but also the need to know why Rachel would ever associate with that bimbo.
"Well, I first saw her in passing through the hallways at school and each time I passed by her she would always smile, and not just at me but at everyone. And I thought that was cool because you don't normally run into those types of people but then one day she introduced herself to me in the library and we hit it off. We instantly became friends and then she asked to 'experiment' with me and we've been pretty close ever since." Rachel said this all so nonchalantly, even using air quotes when she said 'experiment', she hadn't noticed that the blonde was silently seething next to her. Thoughts of the two girls together made the head cheerleader's gut wrench.
"Uh, but yeah it was all completely physical considering we both knew that our hearts belong somewhere else," Rachel continued, uncomfortably scratching at the back of her neck.
"So you don't mind whoring around with girls when you're already in love with someone else?" Quinn questioned, slightly appeased by the thought of Rachel having no feelings for Avery yet still annoyed with her statement.
"It just makes things easier, ya know? Considering I'll never have her," Rachel shrugged, hiding her frown from the girl as she tugged out her keys from her bag. As always, Rachel opened the door for the blonde and waited until she was situated before closing the door. Quinn was about to question who exactly she was but thought better of it when the girl re-appeared by the driver's side. She was scared of what her answer would be.
"When did you start doing cheer?" Rachel asked, hoping to switch to casual conversation.
"Uhm, well I started gymnastics and dance classes when I turned 3 and then cheer around when I turned 5," Quinn replied.
"Really? That's pretty cool, gymnasts are amazing and people always disregard them but they have amazing strength, and that also applies to cheerleaders," Rachel gushed. The blonde beamed at her admiration for cheerleaders, glad that Rachel understood how hard they worked. She also liked the way the brunette's chocolate brown eyes lit up as she did so. "Earlier you mentioned that you like cheerleading because it gives you power.. why is that?"
"I don't know, I just like feeling in control and being on top," the head cheerleader mumbled. Wanky, the brunette thought, smirking as she thought about what those words could have implied. Quinn looked over at the girl when she didn't reply.
"You're disgusting," Quinn groaned.
"Oh, c'mon, you totally set yourself up for that one," Rachel laughed. Quinn chuckled along with the girl, shaking her head. "But why do you think that is? The need to feel in control," Rachel asked after their laughter died down.
"I don't like feeling vulnerable." Rachel frowned, she understood her need to not feel this way, but how she felt so strongly about this made her feel anxious, wondering the reason as to why.
When they pulled up to Quinn's, the lights once again, were off.
"Thanks for the ride, Rachel. I'll see you on Monday," Quinn said, hopping out of the driver's seat. When she opened up the front door, she turned back to wave at the brunette before closing the door. Rachel smiled as she drove off, loving the way her stomach fluttered when the girl smiled at her.
AN: So, if you haven't noticed Quinn and Rachel's relationship is kinda weird. They go back and forth a lot, flirting but doubting the other's feelings for each other since they don't see it as flirting even though Rachel's blatantly telling her she wants to jump her bones half the time. So yeah, I hope you enjoyed this chapter.. it's another filler... if you didn't like it, tell me why ;) I need some feedback.
