"The act of selflessness can be your downfall, but others will think highly of you, knowing that you put another before yourself."

Katniss Pov:

There is no point in trying to wait out the Capitol soldiers any longer. At least they have moved enough away from where we are hiding, thus giving us the opportunity to move. Everyone inside the apartment is awake and ready to go, so we have to move quickly in order to get a head start.

The problem is, we have to take the path of least resistance, which seems to be hard to come by right now. We spend a few minutes trying to figure out the smartest path to Tigris with the least amount of risk involved.

"We can't take the rooftops, since it would make us exposed to Capitol ships."

"Well, we certainly can't take the streets. Snow and his men have to sense that something is amiss when they only pull one body from the wreckage that looks nothing like the Girl on Fire. Maybe once we get deeper into the city, we can use the emigration to our advantage. But we are still far too much on the outskirts to make that work and we would be sticking out."

"So, we can't go above them or by them. That means that the sewers are our only option."

Once we all come to the agreement to travel by the sewers, we head out. We are able to slip into the sewer area unnoticed and without losing anyone. Now, we travel within the sewer, hoping to catch Snow and his men by surprise.

Things are going pretty smoothly in the sewer until a strange sound echoes throughout the tunnels. That sound definitely didn't come from us and it didn't sound like a Peacekeeper. In fact, it didn't even sound human.

The chill that runs down my spine feels familiar, but I can't place the why.

That's when Finnick grabs my hand and whispers to me, "That has to be a mutt sound. I should've remembered that Snow wouldn't leave the sewers unguarded. We have to stay as silent as we can in order to maybe get past them unnoticed. And no sudden movements."

Finnick pulls on my hand, leading us down an alternate route. The rest of the team follows us without asking any questions, knowing that Finnick is trying to protect us. We move quietly, without even making as much as a splashing sound.

The sound of the mutt then seems further away from us than before.

It seems like we are in the clear.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, an ugly lizard beast leaps up and attacks one of our crewmembers. The others immediately attempt to kill the beast in order to save him, but it is too late by the time the beast falls dead.

"Katniss…" Finnick slowly says while he squeezes my hand as the sounds increase in volume.

"Yeah…"

"RUN!" Finnick screams while multiple mutts appear seemingly out of nowhere and begin to charge us.

Not needing to be told twice, we both break into a run.

I hear Peeta scream at Jackson, telling her to keep moving. But when I look back, I see Jackson standing still, readying herself to take on the mutts. I feel someone pushing me forward, as Finnick apparently has appeared behind me.

"Don't look behind you! Keep going!"

I take Finnick's words as gospel, as I look forward and regain my speed.

I only stop when I hear a scream that sounds vaguely familiar.

Why does that sound familiar?

Only when I turn around do I know why.

To my horror, I see Finnick being attacked by a large bodied mutt. Even though he is putting up a good fight, it seems to be a losing battle. Especially once his trident is knocked away during the struggle.

"Keep moving Katniss!" Gale yells at me while he approaches the ladder out of the sewers.

"No!" I scream as I know that I am too far away to save Finnick. Regret consumes me as I know that I have failed him.

Even as I run to Finnick to try to save him, Gale holds me back, preventing me from doing so.

Finnick is doomed.

Just as the mutt was about to deliver the final blow, Peeta appears out of nowhere and stabs the beast in the neck with Finnick's displaced trident. I let out a sigh of relief as I see Peeta whisper something to Finnick before helping him up and throwing him over Peeta's shoulder.

Even with Finnick on Peeta's shoulder, thanks to Peeta's strength, they reach us in seconds.

Knowing that he is okay, Gale, Peeta, Finnick and I climb the ladder to meet up with the other few survivors outside of Tigris' house.

Once we reach the shelter, I throw my arms around Finnick and envelope him in a bone crushing hug while I find myself weeping uncontrollably.

"Is the ever stoic Ms. Everdeen actually displaying strong emotions?" Finnick teases while returning the hug in full force.

"No jackass, you are clearly hallucinating." I smile while playfully rolling my eyes.

"Well, if I am hallucinating, this is normally the part when I tell you that I love you."

I pull myself away and give him a watery smile as I whisper, "I love you too."

This time, when Finnick leans in, nothing and no one stops us from finally kissing each other. Although it is a simple peck, it is powerful enough to bring a smile to my face. When I open my eyes, I see Finnick sporting a similar grin as he pulls me into another hug.

Although this moment has most of my attention, I can swear that I hear Cressida say, "Keep filming. This is going to make great TV."
