When Peter finally arrived back to Ireland the residents of Ballyk unanimously decided that they needed something cheerful to take their minds off all the sadness that had come before and a food fair was agreed about being the best thing. It would be a chance for everyone to socialise and catch up, creating new memories and putting the bad ones behind them.

"Are you sure you are okay?" Assumpta asked the curate as they collected the empty glasses dotted around Fitzgerald's.

"I'll be okay, thanks. How are you bearing up?"

"Oh you know, I'm doing okay thanks, my head still kills from time to time."

"Niamh says you went away to Dublin, did you tell Leo?"

"I tried but why cause any more upset. I think there has been enough of that don't you."

Peter smiled: "I'll drink to that," he said lifting up the dregs of larger which sat at the bottom of his glass.

"Right you are, to happier times, whatever they will be." Assumpta smiled for the first time since the collision. Peter being back made her believe things would be okay again, even if they weren't going to have their new life away, as they had planned.

"To happier times, cheers Assumpta." Peter replied, he hoped someone was looking down on them and smiling for a change.
