Ch. 19 The Yule Ball Part 2
Scorpius led Lily through to the front of the dance. As the Hogwarts Champion couple, they were the first in line. Scorpius took Lily's hand and lifted it to Lily's chin and forced her to look at him. "We're going to be great. And by the looks around this room, I'm going to need Al's helping beating these bloody blokes away from you." Lily swatted at Scorpius' arm, feigning hurt.
"Thank you. I needed that." The music began and Scorpius twirled Lily. The hopped and glided and performed the dance beautifully. And it was over quickly, to Lily's great and appreciative amazement.
Scorpius kissed Lily full on the lips, "You were amazing!"
"Oh, Scor, we were brilliant. When we did that last lift, I thought I might pass out, but your strong grip kept me focus." Scorpius laughed.
A dark haired witch in emerald dress robes approached the pair of Hogwarts students, "Oh, you two were marvelous. You were clearly the best of the couples. You two are both so beautiful. I wish I could dance half as well as the two of you. Of course, no one looked as fantastic as the two of you, but most people can't compare to a Malfoy and a Potter." Lily had to make sure and keep up with the young girl because she was talking so quickly.
Graciously Lily started, "Oh..oh, thank you. That means so much to us. –" And before Lily could say anything else, the young witch disappeared.
"Uh, Lils, do you know who that witch was?" Scorpius pulled Lily out of the quiet.
"No idea, Scor, but she liked us. Ha. Let's go sit down. We've had quite a bit of excitement."
Scorpius walked Lily over to the table where Albus and Alice sat. They joined the pair and Lily threw her legs up onto the chair next to Alice. "Well, I'm tired no more dancing for us, Scor!" Lily exclaimed. Scorpius gave Lily a pointed look of disbelief. As a Malfoy, Scorpius had known how to dance since he could walk. His mother scolded him once as a 9-year-old at dancing lessons, 'Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy, you will learn how to dance, I will not hear any lip and your future wife will thank her mother-in-law for your ability to not fall over your feet or step on hers on the dance floor.' Scorpius smiled remembering the memory. "Alright, Lils, we'll see if that statement holds up in about 15 minutes." That earned Scorpius another swat and smile from Lily.
"I wish my date would join ME on the dance floor for a turn. Instead, I'm forced to sit here like a witch who couldn't find a date, when in fact my date has two legs that he chooses not to use." Alice wasn't holding anything back from Albus. And her Potter boyfriend looked sheepish.
"Al, you best dance with her before Lily teaches her your mum's Bat Bogey Hex," Scorpius outright told Al, but then whispered to him aside, "And why won't you dance with her?"
"I'm a little afraid I'm going to fall all over her," Albus admitted.
"The first thing my mum ever told me was, 'Look at her eyes, not her feet,' or was that the other way around?"
"Scor, this isn't bloody funny. I'll try dancing with Alice and then she'll go back to Lily with black and blue feet."
"Albus Severus, you're being dramatic. It can't be that bad. I'll take Lily out onto the floor and watch my posture. Hold Alice the exact way I'll hold Lily and then glide with confidence. You're a bloody good Quidditch player, but tinkling toes scares you. Buck up, mate, it's not the end of the world."
"Scor, if this works, I'll write your next essay in Potions." The two rejoined the girls again. Lily caught Scorpius' eye and he gave her a look telling her he would let her know what it was later.
"Lily, love, care to dance?" Scorpius extended his hand to Lily.
"I thought you'd never ask." Scorpius rolled his eyes and imagined for the first time this was how it would be when they were married and rolled his eyes again. 'One step at a time,' Scor thought, 'One step at a time.'
Scorpius took control of the dance and guided Lily to the perfect posture. He could see Al attempt the same thing with Alice and he smiled. "Scor, will you tell me what that conversation was about?"
Without breaking eye contact on Al and Alice, he continued his conversation with Lily, "It seems your brother, my best mate, had a case of nerves thinking he was going to step all over Alice's toes. I just had to talk him down off the ledge."
Lily laughed, "What would he do without you?"
"He wouldn't be able to get out of bloody bed, your parents should thank me."
Lily and Scorpius continued on talking, dancing and laughing. They would keep an eye on their friends and no problems seemed to arise. "Scor, can we go out for some air? It feels stuffy in here."
"Sure, love, you go out into the court yard and I'll check on Al and grab us some drinks." He kissed her sweetly and slowly, giving Lily the time to enjoy it before he left her.
Lily walked out into the court yard taking her first deep breath since the dance began. She felt a hand on her shoulder and readily turned around already missing Scorpius for the two minutes they were a part. She leaned into his embrace with her eyes closed. "That was quick. Was Al okay?"
"Oh, my sweet Lily, how I've missed you," This was wrong, Lily thought, all wrong, "Oh, no. Not so fast. Lily it's been ages since we've talked. Don't leave in such a rush."
"There is an obvious reason that I don't want to talk to you or see you, Kevin. Leave me alone, Scorpius will be here any second." Lily tried to squirm away from Kevin's strong grip just enough so she could reach her wand, but she couldn't get through enough.
"I've been watching you all night, since the dance first started. I was just waiting for a time when Malfoy would leave you alone and he finally did," Lily just couldn't get enough of her hand away to reach her wand or hit him in his junk. Lily knew after accidentally hitting James there when they were younger that it would inflect pain on Kevin.
"Lily, look at me," Lily could hear the anger in his voice and she knew he scared her, "I've been waiting to get you alone so we could talk about our relationship. Lily, I miss you and I'm sorry that you didn't understand my actions towards that pompous jerk. He doesn't understand us, Lily."
"There is no 'us,' Kevin. There will never be an 'us,'" Lily stated firmly. She hoped her voice didn't betray her confidence. 'Where is Scorpius,' Lily thought. "Kevin, why are you doing this? I've never hurt you. Please, let me go," Lily's voiced cracked with the last sentence. She desperately begged for anyone to show up and quickly.
"Lily, why would you say something so hurtful?" Kevin leaned his face in closer to Lily, "I know you love me, Lily. It's so obvious." Kevin crept closer to Lily's lips as she pulled her head as far away from his body as possible.
"No, Kevin, please. Let me go. Let. Me. Go." As Lily yelled 'Go,' Kevin was blasted back into the stone half-wall slouching on the ground. Lily had crumpled to the ground covering her head with her hands. She slowly lifted her head and wasted no time running into the arms of Scorpius.
Scorpius quickly grabbed Lily's arms checking into her eyes to see if she was alright. Her eyes were full of water waiting to spill out. He kissed her forehead and then walked to the wall.
"She. Said. Let. Go." Each word was emphasized with a punch, most of which landed on Kevin's face. He was covered in blood, barely able to see. "If you ever, EVER, touch her again, I will hang you upside down in the middle of the Quidditch field by your balls," Scorpius turned to walk away and heard an unintelligible sound. Scorpius turned back around, holding Kevin by the collar, "And don't think I won't do it. I'm a Malfoy, don't think I won't kill for the ones I love. Your history books should have taught you that much."
Scorpius turned around and Lily was gone again. His heart sank until her saw her bounding from the doors with Albus, Alice and Professor McGonagall. He should have known that's who Lily would have gone to.
Scorpius attempted to explain the situation, but Professor McGonagall interrupted, "Mr. Malfoy, Miss Potter has tried her best to explain the situation. It's taken enough of my time and patience to hold Mr. Potter back, but on the threat of telling his mother and grandmother he has calmed down. I too hope you have as well." Scorpius nodded slowly with clenched fist. "I have to get the head of the Salem school and explain the situation. I want to be prepared when she arrives. You four head up to your common room. Mr. Malfoy and Miss Potter, I will see you both in my office at 10 p.m. no arguments." Neither Scorpius nor Lily believed they should be in any trouble and made to protest when they were cut-off, "I suggest you two save the explanation and worry. My students will not be harmed by my punishments or other students. Goodnight, you four."
The four friends made the journey through the castle while Professor McGonagall leaned down over Kevin. "Mr. Williams, I hope you know how much trouble you're in, no matter the amount of blood on your shirt."
