Normal POV
Lahar hurried and caught up with the speedy group. He sat with the other captains and officers as they watched the mages train to their limits. Soon it reached five and the mages were ordered to go take showers in their rooms. Once all were finished and served dinner, the Rune Knights allowed the mages to socialize until ten o'clock that evening. Gajeel and Rogue went outside. Sting and Natsu got into a fight. Gray was comforting a scared Juvia. Erza was talking to Gildarts and Rufus, who had become infatuated with the scarlet-haired Titania. Wendy was holding Freed's hand as he tried to calm her nerves about tomorrow. Evergreen was hitting Bixlow on the head with her fan over something he had said while Jura tried to fascinate Romeo, who was too busy focusing on Natsu and Sting's brawl, with the magic of a Wizard Saint. Lucy and Laxus were not in the cafeteria. They were in front of the girls housing, laying on the ground, looking up at the stars.
"Laxus?" Lucy asked, not turning her gaze from the stars.
"Yeah," He answered.
"You're strongest in a thunderstorm, right?"
He shifted his gaze to Lucy. "Yeah, but where did that come from?" He took her hand in his and squeezed it.
With her free hand, she flipped through her key ring. She held a silver key out in front of her. "Open! Gate of the Rooster! Ryun!" A little red bird popped out of the golden light that appeared around Lucy's hand and key. It landed in front of her as she sat up, as did Laxus, and smiled at the spirit. "Good evening, Ryun. You can create weather patterns, correct?"
The spirit Ryun nodded. "I can do tornadoes and tsunamis, but not powerful ones like Aquarius. I can cause winds to blow lightly or hard. I can also make storms of Ice and Thunder! When it comes to weather, I'm your spirit, Master Lucy!"
She giggled and bopped him on the beak with one finger. "It's just Lucy, Ryun, remember?"
He smiled at her. "Right, Lucy."
"Go on back. I'll call you again tomorrow." Lucy and her spirit gave each other one last smile before Ryun disappeared into his own world. Lucy leaned against Laxus' shoulder and smiled. Laxus smiled and rested his head on Lucy's.
"Tell me, Lucy. What really happened these past seven years? I know it was difficult, but I need to know."
Lucy frowned. "Alright, but this'll be a long story."
Lucy began to describe the hardships of raising three boys on her own, and with the rise of Zeref this past year. The voices of the wizarding guilds that were against the war with Zeref were quickly silenced by the Kingdom, how they were immediately disbanded by force. The Kingdom had told the masses that there was a crazed man calling himself Zeref's incarnate, which is a lie. Many wizards had lost their lives to Zeref's monsters. And how Lucy had hoped they would not die themselves.
As Laxus took in this information, the horrible gut feeling from the previous night returned, only twice as bad. He wrapped his arms around his girlfriend. "Lucy, I promise you'll make it through this. So will our boys." Laxus knew the feeling was directed to his own life and safety. Though, he was not afraid. He knew he was going to die. Laxus knew Lucy would pull through, as will Sting and Rogue. "Don't waste your magic trying to protect me tomorrow, Luce." She looked at Laxus with wide eyes, knowing he had figured out her plan, she pouted.
"Laxus, you are aware I will do whatever it takes to save my family, right?"
He looked her right in the eye. "Lucy, save yourself. Those boys need you more than they need me."
She brought her hand across my cheek, hard. "Don't you dare talk like that! You aren't allowed to talk like that, Laxus! I won't have it! I've felt it, too! We're not going to die!" Lucy's eyes started to well up with tears. "Don't talk like that… You have to live for me just like I have to live on for you. We have to survive for each other, Laxus! That's how it works. I know you'd just sacrifice yourself for my sake, but please, focus on yourself, okay?" She tried her hardest to blink the tears away as Laxus swallowed hard.
"I'm sorry, babe. I'm so sorry." Laxus' voice cracked as he watched his beloved's tears spill over her cheeks. "I forgot my place there. I am so sorry. Please forgive me."
They stayed in each other's embrace, both crying and comforting the other. They remained uninterrupted for almost half an hour when Erza walked up with Gildarts, saying it was time to go back.
"We'll head back in a minute. Tell them to go on ahead. We'll meet them in the dorms." Laxus said smoothly, since he had only wiped his tears moments before they had shown up.
The two mages nodded in understanding, seeing the couple scared to lose one another again. Gildarts had visited the couple almost constantly at their shop in Clover. He was proud to see Laxus had finally grown up into the fine young man he was meant to be and have a hot girlfriend nonetheless. Gildarts was often called "Gramps" by Sting and Rogue when he visited and surprisingly, he let them. He thought they were being somewhat respectful by always greeting him so nicely and always wanting to play children's games with him. He had honestly felt like a grandfather and in the blink of an eye, they had grown up. The thought had made him smile sadly. He remembered how he would go back to Clover with them and stay a few days. Now, he had worse things to worry about. He had a daughter waiting for him at home, at Fairy Tail. He wanted nothing more than to be there with her, but in order to do that, he needed to fight and win against Zeref. He had heard the rumors from Erza saying that he has begun using Tartarus, powerful demons from the Book of Zeref. Though they were just rumors he couldn't help but feel anxious at how badly this could turn out for all of them. He was even more worried about the people he was working with, Rufus Lohr and Orga Nanagear. Both of who held Lucy in high regards. Rufus was also saying how Lucy had taken him in when he was fourteen. Gildarts shuddered at the thought of what the poor boy must have seen in his life before Lucy had given him a home. Erza and Gildarts parted ways, both looking over their shoulders to see Laxus and Lucy holding hands tightly, fear etched into their faces, and silence drowning them. A wave of pity and sorrow washed over Erza and Gildarts, wishing there was something they could do for the young pair of lovers. Yet there was nothing to be done, except grant them the time they needed to come to terms with what was going to happen to them all the next morning.
I apologize for the nearly month-long wait you all had to endure. I was plotting this story out, playing minecraft, youtube surfing, doing that torture device teachers call "homework" and other basic stuff I shan't go into detail about.
