Chapter 10

Demyx spent a few weeks training under Axel's supervision. They weren't really becoming closer though, Demyx had no idea why Axel kept so distant. Finally, the day of Demyx's first mission came.

He met Axel in the gray area, dressed in his uniform. He arrived to see Axel, lounging on a couch, waiting for him. Demyx debated sneaking up on him but his thoughts were interrupted by a certain pyro's voice, "don't bother trying to sneak up on me, I know you're here."

Demyx rolled his eyes and he walked over to Axel, "how'd you know what I was thinking?" "You had that look on your face, the one where you're planning something. My greatness could sense it," Axel smirked at him.

"Well, what are we doing today, oh great one?" "We have a mission." Finally, a mission, a chance to get out of the boring, colorless castle. "Where?" Axel paused a moment, as if trying to resurface buried thoughts, "Deep Jungle."

A portal was called out what the swish of his coat, Axel was through. Demyx figure deep breath and followed. The next thing he saw was a lot of green. It was as Axel had described it, a jungle. He could get lost if he wasn't careful.

In fact, upon further inspection, he had no idea where Axel gone. "Axel!? This isn't funny!" All he heard in return w was the sole sound of crickets chirping. "Axel!" Interesting chuckling sound from behind them but saw nothing when he turned around.

"Up here," he heard and did look up to be greeted by the familiar redhead sitting in a tree. Axel swung down and landed on his feet, "you gotta keep better tabs on your surroundings or you'll never survive."

"What are we even doing here…?" Axel cocked an eyebrow in response, "Impatient aren't you? I thought you wanted to get out of the castle." "I did, I mean, I do." "Then hold your horses." They walked on in silence until Axel finally spoke, "the heartless population is taking over this world, we need to regulate it. We're supposed to kill one hundred or so."

One hundred? Demyx and never killed any, but apparently Axel thought he was ready. He wasn't afraid; not really, he was supposed to be anyway. Axel's chocolate brown blazes a large group of shadows attacked. There were about fifty heartless all-in-one area.

Shadow after shadow caught up ways and disappeared before Demyx even got out his sitar. He began to beat down the barrage but they just kept coming. Even with his lack of experience on the battlefield, Demyx could tell they were losing.

Heartless jumped on Axel and another followed, and another, until he couldn't see the older Nobody. A wave of panic washed over him at the thought of losing his only friend. The next thing he knew, all the heartless work on, everything was soaked in muddy, and Axel lay in a weakened state on the ground.

"You saved me…" He said quietly, "I didn't know you had it in you." His eyes closed as he sucked in a breath. Demyx made save them but he was also losing him. This power may be extinguished Axel's claim of life as he went unconscious.

Demyx wasn't sure what to do, and he killed him? He hadn't meant to, he was trying to protect his friend. But in doing so it may have caused the end of his life.
