Chapter 13

His jade eyes opened groggily as the door was slammed open with full force. He had just been in the middle of a wonderful dream about his Somebody's life when he had been rudely awaked by the sound of his door banging against the wall. The temperature in the room rose as he growled and without looking at the intruder, summoned a chakram and threw it two inches to the right, barely missing on purpose. "The hell!?" Demyx's eyes were wide as his voice came out shaky and nervous.

Axel rolled over to look at his friend, "Dem? You know better than to wake me up!" Demyx's fear disappeared almost immediately and his anger at his pyromaniac friend returned with a vengeance. "You missed our mission! I had to go down to the Underworld by myself and it wasn't easy this time! Do you know how hard it is to stay out of sight of that giant dog and the multitudes of heartless and the freaking LORD OF THE DEAD! Where the hell were you!?"

"Um, asleep?" Axel hadn't known he had had a mission, he'd thought he would've been training Roxas again. The redhead looked over at his friend who definitely looked worse for wear. His coat was shredded so badly, there would be no repairing it. It was literally hang on by a thread. He had bruises all over his face and it looked like he was limping. "What happened to your leg?" "It got broken!" Demyx seethed; if looks could kill, Axel would've been dead as soon as Demyx had entered his room.

"How'd you break it…?" "I got overwhelmed by like fifty Red Nocturnes, stepped backwards wrong and it snapped…" He murmured the last part, embarrassed by how he had broken his leg but still angry nonetheless. "It wouldn't have happened if you had been there though!" Axel sighed, pulling his hair through his mane of hair, not sure what to do. Demyx was right, it was his fault. If he had been there like he was supposed to, he could've absorbed the fire attacks and Demyx could have taken out all the heartless easily.

"You're right…I should have been there. I would offer to take your mission tomorrow, seeing as you need to rest your leg, but someone would have to watch Roxas." Demyx's anger seemed to subside as Axel admitted he was wrong. "I can, got nothing better to do, right?" When Axel tried to cut him off, Demyx put up a hand and shook his head, "Ax, I've got it, I won't let anything bad happen to the kid while you're gone." Axel half-smiled, "Just a warning, Demyx, he's… different." "I'm sure he can't be that different." Axel looked like he wanted to retort but decided against it, instead deciding to say, "Come on, let's get you to Vexen to get your leg fixed up."

-The Next Day-

Demyx was up before the sun rose, the painkillers he was on not allowing sleep to touch him. Needless to say, he felt a little touchy, just a bit. But he had forgotten his promise to watch the thirteenth member. So when a smaller blonde boy was just left in his room, he wasn't really sure what to do. Yes, Axel had warned him that Roxas was different and he was just beginning to understand what that would mean.

Roxas ended up sitting in a corner just staring at Demyx, blue eyes staring unnervingly in his own cerulean ones. Not sure what to do, he stretched out on his bed, summoning his sitar lazily into his lap. He fiddled absentmindedly with the strings, plucking a few notes here or there. Soon enough, a small simple melody was beginning to form, something he did now subconsciously.

He was pulled out of the pull of the music by a hand on his the bottom of his coat. The boy was right against his bed, pulling and trying to get his attention. "What is this?" Demyx cocked his head, a bit confused by the simple question. "What is what?" "The… sound?" Roxas didn't seem sure he had used the right word, but Demyx nodded. "It's called music." "It sounds nice… I like it." Demyx's eyes widened, unsure if he had heard correctly. The kid was expressing emotion, something which wasn't to be expected from the normal Nobody.

When Axel returned from his mission, he was surprised to find the two boys avidly going at it on Guitar Hero. Heck, he was surprised that Roxas had figured out how to play, seeing as how much of a zombie he was. Looks like his two friends had bonded, exactly what he had been hoping for when he left them together.
