Demons of the Past: Part 1: Chapter 6: The Guilt, The Pain
I do not own MLP or Pyro.
Recap: She looked deep into Pyro's eyes. "You read parts of those books, yes?" She asked.
Pyro nodded.
"It spoke of the demon ponies that pillaged villages, and murdered many ponies."
Luna closed her eyes and nodded.
"Did it also speak of Death Bringer?"
"Who?"
"The Demon of Demons?"
"Yes, I just didn't know him by name."
"Well, I can feel, he has returned. I just... He is true darkness... But one of my children... I want your insight... What should I do?
Pyro looked down. "Maybe you should try to talk with him... Make a truce if some sort... And if you cannot change his mind..." He trailed off.
"Pyro... I want you to look for him. I want you to bring him to me..."
"Is that smart? You could be hurt by him!"
"Are you questioning me?"
"Just caring for your safety, M'lady..."
"If he will not work with me or promise to not taint my night and be my subjects, just like you... I will get rid of him for Equestria's sake... I might be able to use him for our future plans..."
Pyro bowed
"As you wish, M'lady."
Death Bringer Let his tongue brush over his teeth, making a deep gash in it. It healed almost instantly. He moved faster than most Pegasai towards where he felt the strong unicorn and her friends. Twilight? Right. She would be his first victim. He could feel the Façade's deep feelings for her, and it would break his resolve, giving more control to him. His body felt stuff and achy, a bit hard to control. He could feel the Façade try to fight his will. He grimaced, faltering a bit. He had only had control for a bit, and he was weak. He had to get rid of this unicorn, and fast. Before the other could win back his body. He needed power, time, and blood. He needed to kill.
Flapping his wings, he felt the wind become razor sharp around him. Nearing the ground, he pulled up, filling them with air, and landed. A small crater where he landed. The purple mare stood in front of her friends, horn glowing.
"Slash?" She asked. She could not see him through the sand, dust and crud that filled the air. Perfect.
He launched forward, air filling his reptilian wings, a smile on his face. Suddenly, he felt a pull and he cursed as his vision began to blur. He yelled as he launched forward, his mind being pulled back into a black that had been his everything.
Slash's eyes snapped open, and almost immediately saw that Twilight was under him, his hoof press hard into her throat. Her eyes had taken on a glazed look, staring horrified up at his as a thin line of saliva dripped for the corner of her mouth.
Horrified, he pulled away his hoof and fell backwards, inching away.
A sound, like a shedding of feathers and scales rang in his ears as he felt his body send threads of pain through him then vanishing.
What had he done? What was he about to do?!
He shot up, flying a complete three-sixty; he shot into a grouping of trees. Flying up, he saw the Everfree forest, and dived into it. He landed under a large tree whose branches blocked out the sun. In the shade, he caught his breath and leaned against the tree, utterly exhausted.
"Death Slasher." A thickly accented voice called out to him. He hopped to his hooves, kneeled down and prepared to fight whoever it was.
Zecora stepped out of the bushed. "There is no need for alarm, I mean you no harm." She said raising a hoof in a way only Zecora could pull off.
Slash only un-tensed a bit. He was still a bit high strung from his recent experience. He answers with silence.
"I have a few questions…" She started.
"I can't answer them-" Slash said impulsively, taking a step back. "So just don't ask..." He said looking down, a hurt, dark shadow over them.
"Dirt all around, Slash. The hurt in your body, mind, and soul. Find the moon..." She said, eyes dark with understanding.
Slash's face contorted in fear. "How do you know of that!?" He asked with dark venom lacing his voice.
"It was wrong of me to try and see, what lied deep beneath."
Slash took another step back. Then another. He took off, flying into the sky.
He felt tears prick his eyes of the fear of his awakening. Then, and now.
Landing far off in the distance, Slash collapsed by a pool of water. The clear liquid stayed perfectly placid like glass in the silence that enveloped the forest.
Slash stuck his hoof in, breaking the clear surface of the water with disrupting circles.
He had hurt Twilight. He had awoken with his hoof on her wind pipe, hurting her deeply.
What was more, deep inside, he felt a satisfaction on haw he had awakened. He felt power in his hoof. It felt dark and the feeling if choking her had left an itch in it to choke again. He ignored this feeling, or tried his hardest to.
He watched his reflection in the pool, his mane was windblown, and his emerald eyes held a dark passion now.
He knew he had not been himself, but still... He felt the Other's influence.
From behind him, a crackling like flame made his pierced ears twitch a bit. Slash got up from beside the pool and looked behind him, his muscles tensing.
"You cast a pretty dark shadow, don't you?" A voice came from where the cracking had been.
"Who are you?" He asked, all emotion void in his voice.
An orange unicorn stepped from the trees. He seemed to be sweating quite a bit, and his mane seemed a bit frazzled. Never the less, his eyes where determined. "My name is Pyrojack. No need to introduce yourself, Death Bringer I know who you are."
Slash gave him a dark glance. "You obviously don't, because my name is Death Slasher." He said, but the other name seemed to arise a chuckle from the Other he had recently become aware of.
Pyro could feel this was the right Pegasus, just from the darkness and ancient power that seemed to seep from him. For whatever reason though, Death Bringer seemed to be a dark reflection of this grey stallion. "Slasher,"
"Just Slash." the Pegasus said with a flick of his tail.
"Slash, I know who you once were."
"You...do?"
Pyro gave a triumphant smile.
"Yes."
"Can you tell me?" Slash said, a lost look on his face. Pyro, however, was not expecting Slash to not know his own past.
"You mean you don't know?"
"I'm sometimes scared to find out..."
Pyro raised an eyebrow. "And scared you should be..." He said with a sigh.
"You were once the strongest of a race of ponies, that where, well, monsters. Demon ponies. You caused so much blood shed, most of your own kind turned on you and killed you, or so they thought. I don't know what happened exactly... But, your here now.. Majorly amnesiac, but I can see the darkness in your eyes, Slash. It's there."
The Grey stallion collapsed. "I..." His hooves dug the ground. No other words came.
Pyro let the Pegasus take in what he had learned. Such great and dark truths should have come in bite sized pieces, but they had neither the time, nor the pleasure to allow that.
Finally, he stood up a bit straighter.
"Death Slasher," Pyro said, getting Slash to look up.
"Princess Luna has requested an audience with you." He said, emeralds looking into emeralds.
Slash stood up, speechless even more so than he was a second ago. Finally, words came. "Why?"
"This race you belong to is rising up again, preparing for more bloodshed. We don't know why, but it might have something to do with you. Luna wants your help, respect, and loyalty. Despite being blood thirsty monsters, your race lived under the moon. They are and were her subjects. She wants you safe, and she wants your trust."
Slash looked down. "I'm not sure I would trust myself around her Majesty like this. I can feel him pounding his hooves in my mind, trying to break my resolve."
Pyro gave a cocky smile. "I know the feeling, but trust me when I say, ~I would kill you before you lay a hand on Lady Luna.~"
Slash sighed, obviously resigned. "Alright." He said, ears slightly drooped.
Pyro smiled, victoriously. "Don't be such a depressed soul, Slash. Lady Luna is a radiance that out shines that of the sun. Just don't say anything like that around the Solar guard." He paused, catching his breath. "We shall head back now. We need to speak to her majesty as soon as possible."
Slash sighed, stretching his wings. They were still sore. "I'm not sure I can fly, plus.."
"Nopony said we were going to Canterlot by hoof." The orange unicorn said with a cocky smirk. Pyro already felt drained from his trip here, but getting to Canterlot as soon as possible was important. He took a deep breath, his horn began to glow a deep orange that crackled like a flame. "Just think about how fast I got here." Soon the magic enveloped both of them and they were moved, by magic, to Canterlot. The area that had held the unicorn and the Pegasus was bare, except the black scorch mark on the ground.
