Written in Julie's POV.
Chapter 7
A few days later I brought Anna home. Once we were home I sat on the couch and said:
"So, about Sherlock."
"Yes?"
"Well, it's pretty obvious that there's something going on between you two."
"What?"
"You know what I'm talking about, Anna."
"Nothing can be 'going on' with anyone and Sherlock."
"That was what I wanted to talk about. He's a complete sociopath but it's obvious you like him."
Anna blushed "Come on as if you don't like John."
Julie blushed now. "It's not that you like someone," I said. "It's that you like Sherlock."
"I know, he's Spock with a sidekick." Anna slightly smiled
I sighed. I was really worried about this, about Anna. "So you do realize that he doesn't even seem to comprehend human emotion?"
"Yes." Anna said simply.
"Ok. Well, good."
We sat in silence for a minute. Finally I said:
"Anna, after you had talked to Sherlock alone about the case you clearly didn't want to tell me about it. Why?"
"It was..uh...irrelevant."
"That's what I thought. What happened?"
"Nothing. We just, uh, talked about the case."
"If it was about the case then it was relevant. The case was relevant to everything about our lives."
Anna had no answer for that. She sighed, "Sherlock's been..." She paused "A bit strange."
"Strange how?"
"Well, first of all, he said I was 'quite remarkable'."
"Wait," I said slowly. "Are you saying that Sherlock has been... Flirting with you?"
"Yes. Like I said. Strange."
"He was mainly strange when we were talking about our case."
I closed my eyes tightly for a moment, thinking. When I opened them I said:
"So I guess it's just that he doesn't know how to interact socially, not that he doesn't have emotions."
"Yes."
"I suppose I should've just taken John's word for it," I muttered quietly.
"What?"
"Well, the other day when John and I went to get you a burger I asked him about Sherlock. Like if he really feels things. John said that he thinks that Sherlock has emotions but doesn't know when, and when not, to show them."
Anna looked as if she was thinking hard "Are you saying that I somehow unlocked Sherlock Holmes's emotions?"
"I don't know what I'm saying. John couldn't even be sure of anything and he considers Sherlock his best friend. That man is a mystery."
"I might have made the unemotional man have emotions."
"In that case I suppose you are quite remarkable."
"I guess so."
"I'm still worried about all this," I said. "But maybe not as much as I was."
"Yeah," Anna said, looking deep in thought
"What are you thinking about now?"
"Everything." She said, "Everything that has happened sense I met Sherlock."
"Yeah, I've been thinking about that a lot too. Although I've been thinking more about what will happen next."
"Yeah," She said "So much has happened though, I got shot, Sherlock shot Hunter, the pictures, the call," She stared forward "And there's even more than that."
"Yeah," I said, now lost in thought myself.
Anna looked up jumped a little and her eyes widened. "Hi," She said staring to the door. I turned and saw Sherlock. I was too surprised to speak.
"How long have you been there?" Anna said
"Not long."
"No, how much did you hear?"
"You were talking about Hunter." Said Sherlock, confused. Anna sighed of relief
"So, why are you here?" I asked, as relieved as Anna.
"There's a new case."
"Then shouldn't John be with you?" I asked.
"Did you want our help?" Said Anna, hoping for the case.
"John is getting us a taxi. And yes, I want your help."
"YES!" Anna shouted "Oh, I mean, I'll help."
"I'll help too," I said. "What do we know?"
"There's been a murder," Sherlock said and left the room.
We followed him. In the taxi it was explained that Sherlock had gotten a call from the police and they needed his help on a murder case. He hadn't been told anything else.
We stood outside a grand building.
There were several police cars around and officers were walking around the beautiful grounds.
"This place is beautiful." Anna said
"Yeah," I breathed.
"You know, it's too bad that someone had to get killed here."
Just as I was about to agree I saw a man and a woman approaching us.
"Hello." Anna said
"Who's this?" The man asked Sherlock, gesturing towards Anna and Me.
"Anna Thorne and Julie Mason." Sherlock replied
Sensing he didn't approve of us being here I said:
"We're detectives."
He looked a little more approving
"This is Inspector Lestrade and Sergeant Sally Donovan," John said.
"Pleased to meet you," I said.
"Nice to meet you," Anna said. "Now, I heard there was a body."
Lestrade led us through a sliding door and into the house. We entered a slightly formal parlor that would have been quite pleasant if it weren't for the body lying on the floor.
"Right, what do we know so far?" Anna asked
"His name was Jonathan Spencer. Four stab wounds in the front. The weapon was found next to the body, a knife that was missing from the kitchen. The safe in this room was empty, but not broken into. His wife said that there should have been thousands of dollars in it." Lestrade said
"Do you know who know who knew the combination?" Anna asked looking at the body
"Just the victim and His wife, according to her."
"Hmm...Was it written anywhere?"
"You'll have to ask her."
Sherlock had been wandering the entire time, his eyes glancing over everything. Now he said:
"How many people work in the house?"
"There is a cook, two maids, a butler, and a gardener." Lestrade replied.
"I'll need to interview all of them, plus the wife," Sherlock said. "They're all suspects."
"Better not be the butler." Anna said, still looking at the body
"My thoughts exactly," I said.
