Fair warning, this chapter is mainly about Amber. Prepare yourselves accordingly.
Amber POV
"Hey freak, I'm talking to you!" I flinched and backed away from him. I had no idea who this guy was, but the second Professor Ozpin left, he and his friends started being mean to me for being part Faunus. "You think you're special cuz Opzin walked you in? Huh?" And that too. I backed up slowly, hoping to leave in the other direction, but my back hit a wall and a whimper escaped my mouth. My tormentors laughed nastily.
"Look at those freaky eyes." One boy said. I turned away.
"L-leave me alone." The leader of the group laughed.
"And that creepy tongue. It's unnatural." Someone, anyone, help! I squeezed my eyes shut and scrunched back against the wall, hoping they'd go away. They didn't.
"Hey, what are you-?!" The lead boy started, but fell silent. A gentle hand touched my shoulder and I cracked my eyes open. The girl in front of me smiled gently.
"Hi." I smiled back tentatively.
"H-hey." She took my hand and pulled me away from the wall.
"My name is Esther Caligo." She squeezed my hand gently. The tension in my muscles loosened and I felt my fear draining away
"I-I'm Amber Drake." She smiled and her multi-colored eyes sparkled.
"Am-ber Drake." The way she said my name, with a soft pause between syllables, made my heart flutter in my chest.
"Y-yeah." She tilted her head slightly to one side and her colorful hair draped over her shoulder.
"Hello Amber, call me Cali."
3rd Person POV (The Day Before)
Ozpin and team KING watched the footage on the screen in the viewing gallery of the airship, mouths agape in astonishment.
"B-but, that's impossible!" Karissa squeaked as she watched Amber decimate the pack of Ursa in five short minutes. Ozpin shook his head.
"Apparently not." He said, something like pride in his voice. Karissa looked over at the seventeen year old, who was curled up on a bench near the window, fast asleep. Ienzo massaged his temples and leaned back in his chair.
"If I hadn't just seen it with my own eyes, I'dve never believed that anyone could wipe out that many Ursa in such a short time, much less a five foot, 17 year old girl." Karissa bristled.
"What does gender have to do with it?" He waved his hands hastily.
"My apologies, I didn't mean it that way. There are plenty of strong females. Ms. Goodwitch for example." He tugged at his collar nervously. "I was just saying that. . .oh, never mind." He grumbled. "What I meant was that we have no records of an Amber Drake at any of the academies, so who in the world trained her?"
Another of the members, Gina, crossed her arms and smirked. "I have no idea, but I'd like to find them and shake their hand." The other member of the team, Nyx, scoffed.
"I'd do more than that, I'd-"
"I bet you would." Gina interrupted with a meaningful grin and wiggling eyebrows. He glared at her.
"I'd beg them to teach me a few things. I might just ask her." He nodded at Amber. Gina chuckled.
"What kind of things are you looking to learn Nyx?" He didn't answer, simply ignored her. Karissa looked at Ozpin.
"Will she be attending Beacon?" Ozpin studied the sleeping girl briefly, then shook his head.
"Honestly, I don't know. I plan to ask her when she wakes up, but it's entirely up to her." Ienzo crossed one leg over the other and rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"What about tuition? I personally believe that she should be allowed to attend for free, but if anyone found out, it would make her life that much harder." Ozpin nodded.
"I've thought of that, and I've decided that I will pay it myself if she desires to attend." Gina whistled.
"Professor Ozpin paying someone's tuition, I think you'd better take necessary measures so that no one knows it was you, there'd be a lot of resentment from the students, since it's basically the same thing as free tuition."
"Gina!" Karissa snapped. "Do not presume to tell Professor Ozpin how to handle his business." Gina flushed.
"Sorry, sir. Just a suggestion, sir." Ozpin smiled.
"It's quite alright, Gina. In fact, you're entirely correct. Thank you for your input." Karrisa's jaw clenched, but she said nothing. Ienzo noticed, but wisely kept his mouth shut. Gina stood suddenly and ran over to Amber, dropping next to her on the bench.
"Momma." Amber whimpered in her sleep and reached out her hand. Gina took it and the girl calmed almost immediately. Ienzo grinned and Nyx flashed her a thumbs up.
"Fantastic work, Gina," He said. "You'll make a brilliant mother, on the slight chance you ever get laid." Ienzo chuckled and Gina flushed.
"Oh, shut up you idiot."
"Are you sure this is okay?" Amber asked, looking up at Ozpin worriedly. He smiled and nodded.
"Yes, go pick something you like, you can't show up to school in dirty clothes." She nodded and ran off with a smile. Gina watched her for a minute, then laughed.
"I don't suppose I could go pick out some clothes too?" They all chuckled and watched as Amber ran back and forth all over the store, picking out clothes and running to the dressing room. "I'll go help." Gina volunteered, taking off for the dressing rooms. Ozpin smiled and looked at Karissa.
"Would you like to go along?" Karissa shook her head.
"No thanks." Ozpin chuckled.
"You know it's alright to relax a bit, right?" She shook her head again.
"I need to stay alert, sir."
"I didn't say fall asleep, Karissa, I said relax." She smiled a bit.
"Alright, sir, if you insist."
"Ugh," Ienzo groaned, slumping down further on the metal bench outside the store. "How long will this take? I despise malls." Nyx laughed and patted his shoulder.
"You've never gone shopping with a girl before, have you?" Ienzo rolled his eyes.
"No, but neither have you." Nyx grinned and crossed one leg over the other.
"I've heard stories." Ienzo snorted.
"Reading books and watching anime doesn't constitute 'hearing stories'." Nyx shrugged.
"It's the same thing anyway." Ienzo went to reply, but was cut off by a scream.
"HELP! MY PURSE!" Nyx and Ienzo sat up in unison and turned to look. A thin man was running in their direction, the purse in question tucked under his arm. They looked at each other and grinned.
As the man passed, Ienzo stuck out his leg and tripped him, then Nyx kicked him in the gut, driving the air from his lungs. He took the purse and handed it to the winded woman when she arrived. She thanked them profusely and they smiled and told her it was nothing.
Nyx crossed his ankles and dug his heels into the man's back, keeping him on the ground.
"We're the best." Ienzo chuckled, and they fist bumped without looking.*
Anna POV (Back to the Future!)
I watched as uneasily Cardin and his thugs terrorized the poor girl, and wondered if anyone was going to do anything. They all disappointed me. I shook my head angrily, appalled by everyone's lack of sympathy. Not that there wasn't plenty of grimacing and 'Oh, that poor girl's flying around the room, it was just sickening how nobody cared enough to do anything.
"Cali, I'll be back." I turned, but she wasn't standing next to me like she was a second ago. I looked around and caught sight of her marching toward Cardin and his cronies. I smiled in spite of myself and shook my head ruefully. "That's my Essie."
Amber POV (Back where we were ;3)
The boys got over their shock and closed the gap she'd come through.
"What do you think you're doing?" The lead boy asked Cali angrily. Dark fury flashed through her eyes and before anyone could blink, she was holding the point of a black blade at his throat.
"Choose your next words carefully, Cardin." Cardin stared down at the blade, wide eyed.
"What are you-"
"I'd hate to kill you." She didn't sound opposed to the idea at all. Cardin had obviously reached the same conclusion, because he backed up, glaring at me.
"This isn't over." The blade slid back into Cali's sleeve and she kneed Cardin in the balls.
"Yes it is." She said, matter-of-factly as he toppled over. She glared challengingly at his friends, but they all raised their hands in surrender and backed away. Then she stepped over him and pulled me along. A black haired girl approached us from the other direction, grinning wide.
"Aw, come on Cal, I've wanted to do that for the longest! Couldn't you have let me have the satisfaction?" Cali grinned a bit.
"Nope." Then she nodded at me. "This is Amber Drake." The girl smiled at me.
"Hi there, I'm Anna." I smiled back.
"Hello." I lifted my hand to wave, then realized I was still holding Cali's hand. Heat rose to my face and I let go. "Um, thank you, Cali." She waved me off.
"It's no problem." Anna grinned and poked Cali in the stomach.
"You're too modest, Cali." Cali shrugged.
"Too much ego here already." She said, no doubt referencing Cardin. Anna bumped her shoulder playfully.
"Look at you, acting all cool for your new friend." Cali's cheeks turned pink and she glanced at me.
"I am not." She murmured, shoving her hands in her pockets. I smiled as I watched them joking and laughing. Anna turned to me again.
"So, I haven't seen you around before, what team are you on?" Team? The question must have been all over my face, because Anna explained.
"You know, your team. We're part of team BANE." She gestured to herself and Cali, who gave a little finger wave, making me giggle. "Who are your teammates?" I shook my head.
"I don't know, I'm new here." Anna and Cali exchanged looks.
"Holy shit, Cal, she's the fourth." Cali's eyebrows lifted about half an inch.
"The one Spencer talked about?" Anna nodded and they turned back to me.
"Good news." Cali said brightly. Anna grinned at me.
"I think we know your teammates."
Yang POV
"Blake." She didn't look up from her book.
"Hm?" I scooted onto the bed next to her.
"It's just you and me here." Still she didn't look up.
"Is that so?" She replied, not paying me any attention. I nuzzled her neck and slid my arms around her. She smiled and lifted her arm, letting me cuddle closer.
"Watcha readin'?" I asked, knowing it would get her attention. I wasn't disappointed. Her eyes lit up and she smiled excitedly.
"Well, basically it's about a guy who gets trapped in another dimension where he doesn't exist and he has to cope with losing his family and friends who never knew him because-"
"Sounds like It's a Wonderful Life." I noted. She mock glared at me.
"Silence, you fiend. No it doesn't. Anyway, they never knew him because he never existed. Then he finds out that the only one who can see or hear him is a little girl named Grace, and that's about as far as I've gotten right now." I smiled at her and snuggled closer to her. I closed my eyes and breathed in her distinctive Blake smell.
"I named my car after you, you know." She snorted as she went back to reading.
"I know, Weiss told me."
"Aw, that blabbermouth."
"Mm." I knew I was losing her. . .To a book. I pouted.
"Pay attention to meeee!" I whined, nudging her. She sighed.
"And you guys say I act like a cat." She leaned over and put her book on the shelf before rolling over on top of me. "So, what'll it be? Kissing? Cuddling? Sex?" I blushed a bit at her sudden change of attitude.
"Er, can I have a second to look over the menu?" She smirked that sexy, magical smirk of hers and I knew how this would end up. I cupped her cheek with one hand and rested my other hand on the small of her back. "On second thought, I think I'll have my usual." I pressed my lips to hers and she smiled into the kiss.
"All three it is." She said when she pulled back. I slid my hand along her thigh and up under her shirt. "Ah, Yang!" She giggled and squirmed on top of me. "Geez, your hands are freezing!" I grinned and slid my other hand down to her waistband.
"It won't take long to warm them up." She smirked again and sat up, straddling me and shrugging off her vest. Then, she bent down and planted a quick kiss on my neck.
"It'd better not." I sat up and unbuttoned my jacket before sliding it off my shoulders and wrapping my arms around her waist. She ran her fingers through my hair, her nails scratching lightly at my scalp.
She dipped her head to kiss me and I-
"I'm back!" Ruby chirped happily as she opened the door. Then she saw us, turned right back around, and left. Blake rolled her eyes.
"She'll get over it." I laughed.
"She'd better, I'm sure as hell not driving her to therapy." Blake grinned.
"Where was I?" I grinned back.
"Don't worry, I bookmarked your spot." Her golden amber eyes twinkled and she smirked at me.
"Why Yang, that was very thoughtful of you." She kissed me slowly and I kissed her back.
"You know I love you, right?" I whispered to her. She smiled.
"Of course I do. And you know that I love you." I smiled and went to kiss her again.
Chirp chirp. I sighed and grimaced at Blake.
"We're not going to get to finish this, are we?" She smiled sadly.
"Probably not." I lifted my hips off the bed and slid my scroll from my pocket, mildly annoyed at whoever it was that interrupted me and Blake's sexy time. I saw the message and the annoyance drained from my face.
From: Anna-Marie Verführer
To: Yang, Ruby, Blake, Weiss, Spencer, Date, Skye
Subject: The Fourth
Hey guys. So, you know that 'fourth' that Spencer was talking about? Well, she's standing right next to me. Meet me in the Ballroom ASAP, or sooner.
Blake flopped onto the bed next to me, threw an arm over my stomach, and leaned her head on my shoulder.
"Who is it?" I showed her silently and her eyes widened. "Oh. . .Guess we'd better get dressed." I turned toward her.
"Yeah. . .I guess so." I stared into her eyes and we both knew neither of us was going to be getting dressed for a while.
3rd Person POV
"Gah, where are Blake and Yang?" Anna grumbled. Ruby shivered a bit, eyes wide.
"They're gonna be a while."
*(A/N: Think Shawn and Gus. . .unless you've never seen Psych. In which case, use your imagination.)
Wow. That feels so much better. Getting back in the groove, even if it's temporary. I was so in the groove, I wrote an extra chapter ^^; But it won't be showing up until much later. I'm pretty upset because it's gonna take a bit longer than expected before Grace can come live with us, so I did what I do best. I wrote the most heart wrenching thing that came to mind. So I apologize in advance for when you read that. I hadn't planned to have so much of team KING in this chapter, but they kinda forced their way in.
The World According to Dante: I decided to add in this little spot I call 'The World According to Dante' for random thoughts and facts about me, because let's face it, nobody looks at my profile.
TWAD #1: Yes, for those still confused, I am indeed of the female gender and of the homosexual persuasion (my technical classification is somewhat bi-sexual). I am only somewhat bi-sexual because I like girls and Matt Smith XD.
