Anna POV
I sighed to myself and flipped to a fresh page in my sketchbook, twirling my pencil absently in my fingers and waiting for inspiration. I sat cross-legged on my bed and stared sullenly at the door, willing Cali to open it.
"Where are you?" I wondered aloud, the loudness of my words startling me slightly. Where do you think she is? I thought back to myself, giving voice to a question that I didn't like the answer to.
"With Dante of course." After a moment I rolled my eyes at myself and sighed. Well, good to know you're also an idiot in denial, along with being a pathetic creep.
"Oh, shut up." I muttered, shaking my head. The sooner you get it out, the sooner you can stop talking to yourself like a mental patient.
"Okay, fine, she probably went to see Amber and make sure she got settled in okay." And why is that a problem? I sighed and shook my head.
"It's not, I just. . ." You're just jealous of a girl that Cali hardly knows. She's new, and Cali was the first nice person she met. She was also being attacked, so what did you expect? To introduce her to everyone and then forget about her?
"That's not it, it doesn't even have anything to do with Amber. It's just that I feel like Cali and I haven't hung out together in a while. By ourselves anyway." There was an incredulous pause and I winced. Tell me you didn't just say that out loud. You're fucking kidding me, right? It's been two or three days since you met everyone. You see her every morning and at night. It's only been two to three days that you didn't spend every second alone with Cali. You sound like a fucking crack addict. Congratulations, Anna-Marie, you've achieved possessive obsessed stalker level.
"You know, I don't think I like you much." I muttered. Well, I guess that makes two of us.
Amber POV
I watched silently from my bed as Skye, who was two beds over, disassembled her alarm clock. She'd arranged seemingly random parts and components on her bed, which I'd thought strange at first, but it wasn't until she started taking apart her clock that I started to feel slightly disturbed.
"Uh," She looked up at me briefly as I found myself speaking. "What are you doing?" She grinned slightly.
"Taking apart my alarm clock." I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at the obvious answer. I knew what she wanted me to ask next.
"I can see that. But why?" Her grin widened and she motioned me over. I crawled across the bed between us and sat down on it. She swiveled in her chair and held out her hand.
"First things first, the name's Skye Delacour." I nodded as I shook her hand.
"Yeah, I know." She snorted and let go of my hand, crossing one leg over the other.
"I know you know, I was just reintroducing myself. I realized I probably made a pretty bad impression earlier." I raised my eyebrows.
"No, not really." She shrugged.
"Just checking. With that out of the way, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret." She leaned forward dramatically, her dark purple eyes twinkled mischievously. "I'm making a bomb." I felt like my eyebrows might have rocketed up off of my face at this point and I stared at her, wide-eyed.
"What? Really?" She held up a small tube of clear liquid.
"Do you know what this is?" My stomach dropped and I shook my head.
"No," I said slowly. "but I assume it's dangerous." Skye chuckled.
"You bet your ass it's dangerous." She said as she twirled it between her fingers. "It's Nitroglycerin." I scooted back a bit, feeling my heart start pounding a thousand miles a minute.
"W-what?! Really?" She gave a crooked smirk.
"No. That was a joke, it's actually rubbing alcohol. But it was funny to see your reaction." I smiled back tentatively and leaned closer, eyeing the parts on her bed.
"Can you really make a bomb out of this?" She nodded.
"Yeah. It's a bit of a hobby. I can literally make explosives out of toothpaste, aluminum foil, and baking soda." I furrowed my brow.
"Is that possible?" She winked.
"When I do it, yes." I nodded, a bit unsure of what to think.
"Is this how you are when you're alone?" She blinked, then shook her head.
"No, that'd imply that I talk to myself. And I don't. Only idiots and the criminally insane do that." I shrugged.
"I talk to myself sometimes." She laughed and went back to disassembling her clock.
"Guess that proves that there's an exception to every rule." I smiled.
"You know, you're a much nicer person than you seem at first glance." She shot a fleeting look in my direction, then shrugged.
"If you say so." A knock sounded on the door and Skye glanced at it. "That's probably for you." I blinked.
"Huh? How do you know?" She shrugged.
"Spencer and Date never knock, and I don't know anyone else here well enough to warrant a visit to my dorm room. Logic dictates that they're here for you. Especially if it's who I think it is." I nodded slowly.
"Okay, I guess that makes sense." When I didn't move, she raised an eyebrow at me.
"So you should probably go open the door now." I flushed.
"Oh, right!" I jumped up and made my way over to the door, stepping over suitcases and assorted articles of clothing. I made it to the door just as my visitor was knocking again.
I opened it after the second knock, and got the third and fourth on my forehead.
"Oh, h-hey Cali." I said, rubbing my forehead a bit. Cali gave a little wave, looking sheepish.
"Oh! H-hi. Um, sorry about that." I shook my head.
"N-not a problem, it's fine." We stood there silently for a moment, then both spoke at the same time.
"So, what did you-"
"How are things so-" We both stopped abruptly and stared at each other.
"What were you-"
"Sorry, you go-" Again it happened, and again we stopped. Then we burst into a fit of nervous giggles.
"What were you saying?" I managed after minute. She shook her head, still smiling a bit.
"How are things so far?" I made a so-so gesture with my hand.
"It wasn't bad. Ms. Goodwitch took me on a tour, but I wasn't really paying much attention, so I still don't really know where anything is." I grinned sheepishly and she smiled nervously.
"Uh, you could. . .message me?" My brow furrowed.
"Huh?" She stared at her shoes.
"If-if you need something." I blinked.
"What?" She pulled out a silver rod that split apart when she pulled on the sides, connected in between by a holographic screen. She held it up.
"You received one, yes?" I nodded and slid mine out of my pocket.
"Um, yeah, Ms. Goodwitch called it a scroll." She put hers back into her pocket, holding out her other hand for mine. I handed it to her and she flipped it around so that I could see what she was doing.
She tapped an icon that looked like an envelope.
"This is the messaging program." I nodded.
"Okay. So. . .Um, I just. . .type in someone's name, then send them mail?" She nodded.
"It also does voice mail." I nodded again, my mind churning with questions.
"Um, so do you need a person's. . ." I trailed off when I realized she was staring at me. Intently. Wow. I thought, staring back. Her eyes are amazing! Wait. . .What was I about to say? I shuffled a bit before recapturing my train of thought. "Oh yeah, do you need their full name?" She blinked rapidly, then looked away, her cheeks reddening a bit.
"Y-yeah, you do. Um, good question." She tapped the bar labeled 'To' and typed in Esther. A drop down list showed a list of people with the first name Esther, with accompanying pictures. She selected Esther Caligo, which strangely didn't have a picture, and handed the scroll back to me.
I typed in 'Why doesn't your contact have a picture?' and sent it. Her scroll chirped and she pulled it out and checked it. Her eyebrow raised and she typed something back.
My scroll pinged and I jumped, then looked down.
From: Esther Caligo
To: Amber Drake
Subject: (Blank)
I don't know. I just never took one.
I wrote back 'Oh. Is there a way to shortcut contacts? It seems inconvenient to re-type it every time.'
Cali pointed to a small icon with a plus sign next to her name. I tapped it and her name appeared in a column labeled 'My Contacts'. I nodded.
"So. . .What else does it do?" I asked, referring to the scroll. She shrugged.
"Games, Notes, Calculator, et cetera." I cocked an eyebrow.
"That's it?" She shrugged, tapping her toes absently.
"Dunno, explore it a bit." I nodded and smiled.
"Thanks, Cali. You're a lifesaver." She shook her head quickly, though she blushed a bit.
"N-no I'm not." Somewhere behind me, Skye snorted.
"Just say 'you're welcome'!" She called. Cali looked away and shoved her hands in her pockets.
"Oh. Um, you're welcome." She mumbled quietly. I giggled.
"Anything else I should know?" She thought for a moment.
"Not that I can think of." I flashed her a thumbs up.
"Alright, I'll message you if I need anything." She nodded and shuffled her feet for a moment more, then left. I closed the door and Skye snickered.
"You guys are both painfully awkward, you know that right?" I flopped face-down on my bed.
"Well, you don't meet many people when you get chased out of town and have to live in a tree." Skye was silent for a moment.
"Yeah. I suppose you're right." She was staring down at the piece of clock in her hand. She blinked, then smirked. "I can understand that, but I can't help but wonder. . .What is up with that Esther Caligo?" I buried my face in my pillow.
"I honestly have no idea."
Dante POV
I rolled out of bed and hit the floor with an almighty crash. I struggled to kick off my blanket (which was doing its best impression of an anaconda) and rolled myself over onto my back. I panted heavily and wheezed a bit, feeling more out of breath than I had in ages. I felt the goosebumps standing up on my arms and the cold sweat beaded on my feverish skin. All my senses were in overdrive, working lightspeeds faster than normal.
With great effort, I hauled myself up to my feet and I wondered why I felt so weird. I lifted my arm to wipe my face, only to smack myself in the face. I scowled at my palm and shook my head. I examined my wrists and realized my weight bracelets were gone.
That explains it then, Cali must have taken them off. I bounced up and down on my toes and grinned. It's been so long since I was free. I felt a sick churning and gurgling in my stomach, and I rushed to the bathroom. I made it just in time.
After I'd finished ejecting the contents of my stomach, I looked in the toilet and grimaced, then sat back and groaned.
"Ew, that's just gross. I was so hungry I forgot I'm a vegetarian."
Lol, talk about awkward moments. Another one bites the dust. Sorry it took so long guys, but unfortunately it'll be a while before I can properly write again, since my dad took my laptop and all. Good thing I always back my stuff up to a flashdrive, eh? ;3 Anywhore, I'm saving to buy myself a laptop that is COMPLETELY mine, that way I can do whatever the flippin' hell I feel like doing, and he can't restrict my access. So this will probably be the last you see of me for a while, but I'll still be writing. Albeit on the dinosaur of a computer DJ has in his basement. DX
By the way, he's the one uploading this, since I'm pretty much friggin grounded. Ah well, that's my shitty life for ya. By the way by that other previous way, sorry if you've been trying to get in contact with me and I haven't been responding, I'm unavailable at the moment, but I will certainly get back to you at the earlist opportunity.
On another note ERMAGERD RWBY VOLUME 2 HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED! AND SO HAS RvB 12! YAAAAYYYY! XD Anyweyz, I gots ta go nowz. Buh-bye (for now). :)
TWAD #4: My dad's an asshole. But you probably already guessed that, huh?
