Spencer POV

Hey Spencer, would you mind going to the library and finding Blake for me?

"Why the hell did I say yes?" I grumbled as I moved through the library, marveling at how a place full of so many people could be so quiet. Because it was Yang that asked. I answered myself silently.

My head swiveled back and forth as I looked for Blake, wondering how I was ever going to find her in here.

I sighed and I guess it was a pretty frickin loud sigh, because like three different people turned and shushed me.

I turned into an aisle labeled Historical Non-fiction, wondering if this might be the kind of place she'd be.

No dice. I suppressed a groan and turned to leave.

"Ah!" A girl yelped and stumbled back when she crashed into me, dropping her book and sprawling onto the floor.

Several people shushed her.

I rolled my eyes at them and picked up her book in one hand, holding out the other to help her up.

She grabbed my hand and let me pull her up, then busied herself fixing her sweater.

As I watched her, I surprised myself by thinking to myself, She's kinda cute.

Her pink, wire-rimmed glasses slid down her nose and she pushed them back by the bridge before smiling sheepishly. She looked familiar somehow.

"Sorry, sometimes I forget to watch where I'm going." She whispered as I handed her her book back.

"Not a problem. It was kind of my fault too." She began turning the book over gently in her hands, checking it for damage I suppose, and I was once again struck by how familiar she looked, though I couldn't place her. "Um, have we met before?"

She glanced up at me, then did a double take and flushed, her cheeks burning red.

"Spencer?" She squeaked, ducking her head. Her glasses slid down her nose, and she pushed them back up, then froze.

The color drained from her face and she snatched them off her face, then squinted up at me. She sighed and replaced her glasses, spreading her arms in a little here I am gesture.

"It's me, Gina." I stared at her for a moment, then I saw it.

She'd pinned her long bangs back from her forehead, and tied the shorter hair in the back up in a little ponytail, but her hazel eyes, pink tank top (which was all but covered by her black sweater at the moment), black sweats, and flip-flops hadn't changed.

"Oh, hey Gina, you wear glasses?" She nodded. "Cool. So...what's shakin'?" She shrugged, a little sardonic smile on her face.

"I'm sure you've noticed, but if you're talking about the asses of most of the girls on campus, not much." I chuckled and nodded.

"Yeah, they are kind of lacking." She sighed mock sadly.

"Unfortunately, I'm one of those sadly lacking girls." She said with a little wiggle of her butt.

Though her words may have seemed like it, somehow I could tell she wasn't fishing for a compliment or anything. If anything, she thought it was genuinely funny.

Other than the hairstyle and glasses, there was no mistaking this as the girl who'd come up to me a last week and introduced herself, thus saving my ass from being late.

Flashback time, motherfucker

I was walking along, minding my business and trying to find the amphitheater for a class called Applied Combat, when a petite blonde girl appeared in front of me and stuck out her hand.

"Hi, I'm Gina. Welcome to Beacon Academy." I grimaced and shook her hand.

"Yikes, I look that new?" She nodded solemnly and patted my arm.

"Yeah, kinda. But don't worry, in a few weeks, you'll know this place like your crotch area." I stared at her for a long time, then burst out laughing.

"What the hell?" She shrugged, a small smile curling her lips.

"Think about it, how well do you really know the backs of your hands? Or the fronts for that matter." I thought about it for a moment, then nodded.

"I see your point. I'm Spencer." She smiled wider.

"Nice to meet you, Spencer. Anyplace in particular I can help you find?" I nodded, and held out my schedule.

"I'm trying to find the amphitheater." She turned back the way I came and pointed at a large, admittedly amphitheater-esque building not far away.

I sighed with relief and smiled at her.

"Thanks a lot, I owe you." She shrugged.

"First one's free, second one's half off." I shook my head at her and started away. After a minute, I turned and called to her.

"Thanks again, it was nice meeting you!" She waved goodbye and called back as she turned away.

"You wanna do what to me?" I blinked.

"No, I said-"

"I know," She cut me off with a laugh. "I was just messing with you!"

I was already inside before I realized that she still had my schedule.

End flashback...

"So, whatcha doin'?" I sighed.

"Looking for a friend." She batted her eyelashes at me.

"Well you found one." We laughed and again, several people glared our way and shushed us. She rolled her eyes and grabbed my hand, dragging me around the side of a nearby bookshelf.

"Not that this isn't nice, but I'm looking for a specific friend. Blake."

She tapped her chin thoughtfully.

"He a regular?" I shrugged.

"Blake's a girl, and I think so. Are you?" She shrugged back.

"Yah, pretty much. What's she look like?"

"She's about...this tall," I demonstrated Blake's height with my hand. "Black hair, bow, golden eyes..." She nodded slowly.

"A-hmmm..." Her face brightened suddenly. "Ah, you mean Black Ninja Blake!" I nodded, relieved.

"Yeah!" I paused. "Wait, Black Ninja?"

Gina grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, it's a Battle Beast song. It's how I distinguish her from the male Blake when I talk about or to her." I nodded, beginning to understand.

"Oh, okay."

She stepped forward, but tripped on her flip-flop and tumbled against me.

My arms encircled her waist to keep her from falling and I stumbled back into the bookshelf. She stared up at me from over her glasses, which had slid down the bridge of her nose.

"Ah, thanks." She said, blushing. I nodded.

"No problem." Her mouth opened like she wanted to say more, but a new voice stopped her.

"Gina!" The voice whispered loudly. "Did you get the-" A guy with messy black hair and a black shawl/cape looking thing turned the corner and saw us.

His dark eyes flicked from my face, to Gina's, then back to mine. His lips twitched and he reached out and took the book from Gina's limp fingers.

"Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt." He winked at Gina. "When you're ready to finish the assignment, you know where to find me." And then he turned and strolled away.

"Nyx! Don't you dare-!" She cursed under her breath. "He's so gonna tell Ienzo." I watched her expression of dread curiously.

"He your boyfriend?" She looked up at me and laughed.

"Who? Ienzo? Never! I don't date guys that take themselves too seriously." She grinned at me, and I was suddenly reminded of our proximity.

"Uh, Gina?" Her eyebrows rose.

"Yeah?" I nodded at our bodies, which where still pressed together.

"You're, uh, kind of close." She smirked coyly.

"Something wrong with that? And don't blame me, buddy, you're the one who won't let go of my waist." I snatched my hands away and she stepped back. "Blake's usually in the back right corner, in the armchair. Good luck!" She winked, pushed up her glasses, flashed me the peace sign, and was gone.

"Um...Okay?"

Well, here's a little filler/character development for you. Sorry about the short length, but I'm more focused on BNSDLS at the moment. I'm uploading a new chapter soon, so there's that. Did I mention that my Dad's a major dick? Because he is. Blame him for my recent absence. He keeps finding reasons to take my laptop. -_- So I'm back on my little brother's iPod.
