Chapter 10: Sakura, and Feimei's Emergency

A year ago Sakura had decided to confess to Li Syaoran. Her one sided crush was going on 3 years, and she finally got up the nerve to confess.

She remembered how she had peeked up and down the hall, and had hurriedly stuffed her love note into his locker. Heart pounding, she had sped off to await his answer. In all honesty, she really had not expected an answer really at all. Countless rumors swirled about similar moon eyed girls confessing their love to him to only be flat out rejected.

She recalled opening up her letter after he handed it to her to only be greeted by red marks and a big shining D- on the bottom. He was so cold and thought of himself so highly. She even told him so the next day after her house had been destroyed. This jerk needed to be put in his place, but the joke was on her when later she found out she had to live with said jerk.

Sakura laughed to herself closing her journal. She really couldn't believe that it had been almost a year now. So many had things had changed in between them. Sure she and Syaoran weren't exactly… well she wasn't sure how to describe it, but he defiantly acted different towards her now. She also had noticed a subtle change in him that seemed for the better. He smiled more now, and his shoulders were relaxed. That stone wall that he carefully built up seemed to be crumbling day by day. Yelan swore up and down that it was her doing, but Sakura still wasn't so sure.

It was now September and fall courses were in full swing. Syaoran still lived apart from the family, and still refused to tell them all where he lived. He had even gone as far as to get his own cell phone plan, and refused to share his number. However, he still kept his promise, and was coming to family dinners as much as he could. And Sakura tried to drop in on his café at least once a week to say hello.

So life had continued as it does, and Sakura was more than happy to greet fall. The oppressing heat of August had really started to get to her.

Going down the stairs she smiled to Yelan and Leiyun as they gathered their suitcases by the door. "You're sure you'll be alright?" Yelan fretted.

Leiyun had got an offer to go to Thailand, and the couple was making an anniversary weekend out of the trip.

"Hai!" Sakura cheered.

Feimei looked at her mother imploringly. "I'm going to starve to death." Sakura shot her a look.

"Oh Feimei! Sakura-chan will be more than capable of taking care of you," Yelan laughed, but on a second thought she added, "Are you sure you don't want Xiao Lang to come home for the weekend?" she asked Sakura.

Sakura's face heated up at thinking of them being alone in the house again. "No! No! We'll be fine!" she said grabbing Feimei by the shoulder and hugging her close. "Girls weekend!" Sakura cheered as Feimei tried to pull away making a face.

"If you're sure," Yelan sighed.

After hugs were exchanged the couple was on their way. Sakura smiled closing the door. It was just her and Feimei all weekend. Her father was away on a business trip.

Later that night while making dinner Sakura noticed that the usual lively Feimei had got very quiet. By dinner she was pretty lethargic and refused to eat. "Oh my cooking isn't that bad," Sakura chided guiding her over to the table.

Sakura ate happily. Pancakes were her best recipe, and she even had made a smiley face one for Feimei. Well… it had meant to look like a smiling face, but it kind of looked like it was grimacing.

Feimei picked at her plate slowly, and her head drooped. "Are you okay?" Sakura asked worriedly.

"I don't feel good," the younger girl whimpered holding her stomach.

Sakura quickly got up and felt her forehead. She pulled back in alarm; she was running a pretty high fever. "Come let's take you over here," Sakura said steering her over to the love seat. She wrapped her in blankets and sat back worriedly.

They stayed like that for 15 minutes with Sakura dabbing her forehead with a cool cloth. She didn't seem to be getting any better. Was it my food? She thought worriedly. Did I give her food poisoning? But as the minutes ticked by Sakura wasn't so sure. She had tried to call Yelan but she couldn't get through. Her phone must have been off while flying.

Maybe I should called Syaoran-kun she thought reaching for her cell phone but then stopped. Wait I don't know his number. I'll try calling the café she thought dialing the number.

"Thank you for calling Café Koohii; how may I help you?" a pleasant voice answered.

"Hello, is Li Syaoran available?" Sakura stammered into the phone. She had never called him at work before.

There was a pause before the girl said, "I'm sorry but he's not working today. Could I take a message for you?"

"No… that's okay. Thank you for your help," Sakura said politely hanging up the phone.

Looking at Feimei her heart started to beat fast. The poor child looked like the fever just wasn't getting any better, and now she was clutching her stomach in earnest. Alright Sakura think. She told herself. You volunteer at the hospital what could this be?

Finally she decided that she had to get her to the hospital with sweaty fingers she dialed Julian. "Julian!" she faltered as he answered.

"Sakura what's wrong?!" came his worried voice.

"I-It's Feimei," she said trying to hold back her tears. "I'm watching her for the weekend and something is wrong. I-It's her stomach. Julian I'm scared."

"Call an ambulance," he advised and on a second thought he added, "Have you tried to call Li-kun?"

"I don't know how to get a hold of him," Sakura sniffed. "He's not at work. He won't tell us where he lives or what his new phone number is."

Julian clenched his teeth. He had to compose himself for a moment before he said, "Sakura call an ambulance. I'll find Li-kun, and bring him to the hospital."

"Thank you Julian!" she cried hanging up the phone and calling the ambulance.

Tomoyo and Chiharu met Meilin in front of her apartment. The girls had got the call from Julian explaining the situation.

"Do you know where he lives?" Chiharu demanded.

Meilin fidgeted uncomfortably. "No… he won't tell me."

Tomoyo expertly hid her smile. So he hadn't told Meilin either. "What's the name of the place you two work at again?"

Julian raced into Café Koohii breathless. Everyone gasped, and a waitress ran up to him alarmed. "Are you okay?" she asked.

"I need to speak to Li Syaoran-"he got in between breaths.

"He isn't here today-"the waitress started to say before being interrupted by a punk looking, spiky haired guy.

"Syaoran is working late at school today. He'll be in the science department."

"Thank you," Julian bowed before running off again. He grinded his teeth as he ran. Over the last 6 months he had started to get to know Li Syaoran. He should have with how much Sakura talked about him. He had also watched how they interacted. He just couldn't read the guy, and that's what infuriated him the most. It would seem like he genuinely cared for Sakura one moment, and then the next would deliberately ignore her. He didn't know how lucky he was to have someone like Sakura love him.

Julian was just running up to the gates of Hitsubashi when he noticed Syaoran walking out. "Li-kun!" he shouted. Syaoran looked at him perplexed, as Julian ran up to him.

"Sakamoto? What are you doing here-"Syaoran started to ask when Julian interrupted.

"It's Sakura!"

Syaoran paled, and ran up to him. "Is she okay? Where is she?" he asked swiftly.

"She's fine," Syaoran visibly relaxed "It's Feimei. She's sick. Sakura took her to the hospital. She needs you there."

Syaoran nodded, and hailed a cab. "Taxi!"

Sakura sat shaking in front of the doctor. He looked at her sadly, and patted her knee. The poor girl had refused to eat or drink anything since she had got there. "The child needs emergency surgery," he tried again. "She has appendicitis, but since she's a minor I can't have anyone that's not family sign off on it." Looking at her pale face again he asked, "Can you get a hold of anyone?"

Sakura shook her head slowly. Her pig tails had come undone awhile ago, and her hair hung limp around her pale face. Julian wasn't answering his phone, and she wasn't for sure he had been able to find Syaoran or not. She gazed sadly at Feimei's small body lying on the hospital bed. She looked so fragile like a little doll that could break at any moment. "Please hurry Syaoran-kun," she whispered.

A door sliding brought her back to reality. Scared emerald met amber, and Sakura rushed to Syaoran. "Syaoran-kun!" she cried.

"It's okay I'm here," he said reassuring her.

"Feimei she needs surgery-"Sakura said hastily, but Syaoran quieted her.

"Its okay I already signed all the paper work," looking towards the doctor he nodded as the doctor took off down the hall. Pulling her aside they let the nurses, and operating room staff wheel Feimei away. Sakura pulled her light sweater closer in worry.

The three of them stood together awkwardly and waited for Feimei to return. Stuffing his hands in his pockets Julian turned to Sakura. "I'm glad I could help you Sakura. I think everything will be okay now."

She smiled gratefully at him. "Thank you so much Julian. I don't know what I would have done without you."

Syaoran swallowed, and averted his eyes. "Sakamoto," he said quickly before Julian could leave. Julian turned, and was surprised to see Syaoran doing a deep bow. "Thank you very much."

The blonde haired boy scoffed and shook his head. It really wasn't in his nature to get angry, but something about Li Syaoran absolutely infuriated him. "You are so selfish." Syaoran looked up stunned. Sakura's mouth fell open. "It's fine if you want to live on your own. I respect that, but you have to tell your family where you are and how to get a hold of you. How would you feel if something had happened to your little sister today if we hadn't been able to find you? Huh? Do you know how that would have made Sakura feel?!" he yelled pointing at Sakura. "You know she would have blamed herself for the rest of her life. You know that's her type of personality. She would never blame you because she loves you too much, "he bit out.

"Julian-"Sakura tried, but was cut off.

"A man can't live by himself. You have to let people know what you feel, and not just expect them to read between the lines. Just say what you feel," he ended. Looking towards Sakura he said, "I apologize Sakura, but it needed to be said. Call me later," and with that he left.

"Syoaran-kun?" Sakura asked laying a hand on his arm. He stiffened for a moment and then relaxed.

He stood and let Julian's words sink in. His words were completely true. He really had been very selfish. He had been so determined to rebel against his parents that he hadn't stopped to think how is actions affected others. He vaguely heard Sakura say she was going to try, and call his mother again before she walked out. He watched her go with sad amber eyes. Julian had said to say what he felt. But what did he feel?

He really was not used to experiencing emotions before. Before Sakura came everyday had been the same, and he would just put himself on auto pilot. But with her he started to experience a whole spectrum of human emotions that he never had before. Today he had experienced fear. When Julian had first said Sakura's name he thought something bad had happened to her. He wasn't for sure why, but for some reason the thought of her being in any kind of pain really disturbed him. He tried to say it was for his mother's sake, but he knew he was lying to himself.

"She would never blame you because she loves you too much," Julian's words echoed in his head.

Standing stiffly he made his way outside to where she was. Almost as if going off instinct alone, and letting the universe guide him to her.

Sakura stood out in the crisp fall cold on her cell phone. "Hai she needed an operation," she said speaking to Yelan. "Hai she will be okay. Syaoran-kun is with me," she nodded listening to Yelan speak. "Okay. Have a safe flight back home. See you tomorrow," she said hanging up her phone.

She didn't know if it was from the cool fall air, but she found herself shaking. And once she started she couldn't stop. Unexpectedly, she found herself being pulled back onto a broad, warm chest. She gasped, as he hugged her from behind.

"Thank you Sakura," he barely whispered in her ear.

Her shoulders relaxed, and she let her flood gates open. All the tears she had been holding back all night she let pour out. "I was so scared," she admitted shaking. He hugged her closer. Swiveling around she flung her arms around his waist and hugged him. This time he didn't even stiffen. He allowed himself to enjoy her warmth, and her familiar scent of cherry blossoms. He hugged her closer, and leaned his cheek upon the top of her head. "I was so scared," she sobbed.

Slowly he reached up and patted her hair. "Everything is okay now. It's alright Sakura."

She sniffed and pulled back. Putting on a brave face she said, "Nothing comes from crying right?" but her trembling lip betrayed her.

She was surprised when he pulled her closer yet, and hugged her tightly. "No Sakura. You're allowed to cry," she blinked up at him mystified. Smiling down at her he said, "Your emotions are what make you who you are. Stay the way you are Sakura," he said pulling her close again. She gave a small smile, and closed her eyes.

Awhile later Syaoran sat in front of the head surgeon. "The operation went very smoothly," the doctor explained. "She will need to recover over night so why don't you and the young lady head home?"

"Home?"

"Yes. You can't stay in the ICU, and there are no overnight accommodations here. Why don't you come back in the morning?"

"Thank you very much," Syaoran said bowing deeply.

The doctor regarded the young man shrewdly. "The child is very lucky to have had that girl there," Syaoran looked up surprised. "Appendicitis is not life threatening if its' caught early. She made the right decision by getting her to the hospital as soon as she did. That girl saved your sisters life. Your sister and you are very lucky to have her in your life."

Syaoran bowed deeply again letting the doctor's words sink in. Walking out into the waiting room he took in Sakura sitting in the lobby. This wasn't the first time he had wondered how different his life would be if it wasn't for her. Seeming to sense he was thinking about her she stood up and made her way to him. "How is she?!"

"She's fine. She's going to recover overnight."

Sakura nodded, and then smiled at him. "Okay. I'll stay with her overnight. You can go-"

He stopped her. "You can't," seeing her confused face he added, "She'll be safe in the nurse's hands. We should go get some rest."

Sakura nodded. She did feel very tired. Once outside the two looked up and down the desolate, dark streets. A light sprinkling that had started earlier had now turned into a downpour. Sakura hugged her light sweater closer and her teeth chattered.

Seeing her shiver he said, "It's pretty cold out, and I think we've missed the last trains for the evening," he looked up and down for a taxi but didn't see one.

"What are we going to do?" Sakura worried rubbing her cold arms.

"Let's go to my place," he found himself saying.

"Hoe?" she gaped staring at him. "Your place?!"

Not meeting her eyes he said, "Yeah it's very close to here actually," peeking at her he removed his jacket and handed it to her. She took it confused. "Put that on. I don't want you to get sick."

"But you don't like to be cold-"

"I'll be fine," he said brusquely walking away in a hurry.

Sakura stared at his retreating back, and swallowed. Spending the night at Syoaran-kuns?! HOEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

He lived in a nice studio apartment on the 7th floor. Opening the door he welcomed her into his home. She took in her surroundings in wonder. So this is Syaoran's apartment she thought. It was pretty sparsely decorated. The kitchen was there to left, and across from it was his bed. He also had a desk, and a very small TV. She blushed at seeing the bed.

"Has Meilin been here?" she couldn't help but to ask.

"No…You're the first," he answered taking his jacket back from her, and hanging it on a peg by the door. She nodded slowly not meeting his eyes. "Do you want to take a shower first?" he asked.

Her cheeks flamed scarlet. "NO! I mean… no you can go first," she laughed lightly plopping first on his bed, and then quickly scurried over to his kitchen table. "I-I'll call Yelan and tell her the operation was successful."

After her phone call Sakura couldn't help but to stare at the lone bed. You've been alone together before she chided. However, this time felt different. They were different.

Sakura looked up at hearing Syaoran come from the shower, and she thought her heart would explode. He just had pajama pants on, and no shirt. Her mouth went dry taking in his rock hard chest. Seeing her stare at him he smirked which only caused her to blush more. She quickly averted her eyes, and stared anywhere but at him. A towel plunked on her head, and she heard him say, "It's all yours."

"Hai," she said before scurrying to the shower. But his arm stopped her. She tried not to stare at his bicep.

"Hold on," he said looking through his dresser. Finally he pulled out green flannel pants and a white shirt and handed it to her. She blinked at them. "They probably won't fit, but it's all I got."

"Thank you," she squeaked before dashing to the bathroom. Once in the safety of the bathroom she let herself react. What was he doing walking around half naked?! She slumped up against the door, and remembered his abs once more. Her cheeks heated up as she quickly shook her head. NO NO NO NO. She said pacing back and forth now. Hentai Sakura. Hentai.

After awhile she emerged from her shower and she was relieved, and secretly kind of sad to see that he put on a shirt. He was calmly reading a book, and barely looked up at her as she walked in. Taking a seat at the table she leaned across it and smiled sweetly at him. "Thank you Syaoran-kun."

"It's no problem," he said bored not looking at her, but he seemed to be reading that same page twice. Coughing loudly he closed his book and stood. "I'm tired. I'm going to go to bed."

Sakura nodded quickly standing almost knocking over her chair. She laughed nervously. "Yes. Um… It's your place so you can take the bed-"

"Yeah I agree."

"What?!" she gasped.

He laughed. "I was joking. Of course you can take the bed Sakura. I'll sleep on the floor," he said taking one of his pillows, and getting out a blanket.

"But-"

"Just go to sleep," he said lying down on his makeshift bed.

Sakura nodded climbing onto his bed. Settling in she stared up at the ceiling and smiled to herself. His whole bed smelt like him, but she really did feel bad making him sleep on the floor….

"Good night," he said turning off the light.

Her heart beat quickened. The dark! She couldn't sleep in the dark… but she was in his house maybe he needed the lights off. Wait was that a ghost over there? HOE! What was that noise?! GAH! What was crawling on her arm?! Oh… it was just her hair. "Ne… Syaoran-kun-"she started to say, but a small light was turned on. She leaned over and looked at him.

"You don't like the dark right? Now go to sleep," he said lying back down.

She nodded lying back down, but shortly after she found herself staring up at the ceiling again. Syaoran had to be cold. He hated the cold! She really did feel guilty taking the whole bed. No don't bother him again and just go to sleep she tried to tell herself, but it was no use. Tentatively she leaned over and stared at him. His back was to her so she didn't see him also staring at the wall in front of him wide awake.

"Ne, Syaoran-kun, are you cold?" she asked.

"Of course I'm cold," he huffed.

She quickly sat up. "Please let me sleep down there. I feel awful. This is your house and I'm a guest and-"

"Alright! Alright!" he said sitting up and looking at her. "I'll sleep in the bed too."

She blinked at him his words sinking in. Sleep… in… the…bed…too? Cheeks flaming she tried to get off. "No I'll sleep on the floor-"

"It's okay. You'll leave me alone like this," he said sliding into bed next to her. She stared at him speechless. "Good night," was all he said as he curled up his back to her.

Heart pounding in her chest Sakura laid back down, and found herself staring at his back. So… they were in the same bed. She gulped. What had he said to her the last time they had found themselves on the same bed: "Are you here to make love?" he had whispered huskily. Her cheeks burned at the memory. Of course he had just been joking then but now… Was it the same? She couldn't help but to feel a little disappointed. I can't believe he's not trying to make a move. I guess this finally settles it for me. He must not find me attractive she sighed. She remembered his word boyish and sighed loudly.

"Are you sad?" he asked out of nowhere.

"Hoe?"

"I know you're thinking badly about yourself because I'm not trying to make a move on you," he said not rolling over and looking at her.

"No I'm not-" she laughed but he quickly said, "I…. no longer think that your boyish. I don't know how I ever could have," he said still not looking at her, but keeping his eyes fixed on the wall ahead of him. "I also don't want us to go the way our parents planned. If mom finds out you spent the night, and that we did something… that's exactly what she would want. Then they'll definitely control the rest of my life," he muttered.

Sakura stared at his rising and falling shoulders sadly. "I could see that," she whispered.

He sighed. "That's why I didn't want to tell them where I lived or my phone number. I knew mother would be over here all the time, and I know she would find a way to track down where I lived if she knew my phone number," turning towards her finally he said, "I sometimes wonder if you didn't come into my life would I have followed their path for me exactly? Gone to Tokyo University, still be at home, and taking over my father's company," She blinked at him. "You make me want different things for myself Sakura. I wanted to live on my own to discover what I wanted to do with my life."

"So that's it," she said smiling. "It wasn't because of me."

"Baka," he said pinching her nose. "I said I was going to stop running away from you."

She made a face at him like old times. Suddenly his face got serious again. "You were the one always causing me trouble, but today I was the one that troubled you."

"No it's okay I understand," she said. Sinking in further into her blankets she mused, "Being there for Feimei today felt right to me. I felt like it was the best way that I could help," looking at him she said, "I really like to care for people. But ne, Syaoran-kun, you're a genius. You can do anything. Watching the doctors today I couldn't help but to think what a great doctor you'd make. People need someone like you who can make decisions quickly and rashly. Today made me realize how fragile the human life is."

He nodded. "Today was new for me too. Up to this point I thought our lives were decided for us."

"Syaoran-kun, you have so much potential that you can be anybody you want to be," she said smiling at him again reaching out and bolding brushing his bangs back like she always wanted to do. He stopped breathing for a moment. "I believe in you one hundred percent," she said tiredly yawning eyes closing.

He gave a small smile as he returned her hand underneath the blanket. He allowed himself to hold onto it for an extra moment. He stared at her sleeping face and said, "My life was so boring, but now it's full of life. I think I'm starting to understand how life should be lived and what my interests and likes are…" he whispered.

She smiled in her sleep. Staring at her sleeping face he allowed his eyes to close.

Syaoran awoke in a fog; he opened his eyes and tentatively reached out for Sakura, but was surprised to find when she wasn't there. Sitting up quickly he looked around, but couldn't find her in the apartment.

Finally, he found her note by the door it read: Syaoran-kun, I went back to the hospital to be with Feimei. Take your time coming I know we stayed up late. P.S. No matter what you decide just know that I believe in you 100% -Sakura

He smiled at the note. Her grammar had got much better. A+ he wrote in the bottom right corner.

"Your girlfriend got here early this morning," the nurse explained escorting Syaoran back to Feimei's room. "Your sister seems to really care for her," Syaoran smirked. Opening the door the nurse smiled at seeing Sakura sound asleep with her head resting on Feimei's bed. "Ah she must be very tired. Let's not disturb her," the nurse said smiling before leaving.

Syaoran stared down at the sleeping girl and smiled softly to himself. Her golden hair was fanned around her head and her eyelids fluttered. Finally his eyes landed on her pink lips. Sitting quietly down next to her he brushed some stray hair out of her face, and let his fingers linger on her cheek.

Feimei's eyes slowly opened and she took in her brother sitting on the edge of her bed. "Gege-"she started to say but stopped at seeing him lean down, and plant a soft kiss upon Sakura's lips. She mumbled and seemed to smile. Syaoran stared at up Feimei and held his fingers to his lips smiling. She nodded slowly and watched him leave.

Once he was gone she regarded the girl sleeping at her foot of her bed. So she was right. Her brother did love Sakura after all.

Author's Note:

WHEE! I've been looking forward to writing this chapter pretty much since I started. Besides the obvious 2 scenes in Itazura na Kiss this scene is my favorite. I think I was fan girling the whole time I was typing it. I recently had to have emergency surgery on my abdomen so I really feel for poor Feimei. It's a long recovery process. So lot's and lot's of fluff this chapter. I think you guys deserved it after how much drama there's been haha!

Also thank you to everyone else who has reviewed so far. I admit I was kind nervous about writing again. I was worried the CCS fandom just wasn't alive anymore, and I'm happy to see it's still alive and well.

Please Review! Until next time!
