Chapter 5
Lina's plane had finally landed in Romania and she had gotten to a small village outside the Carpathian mountains where she lived almost 2 thousand years ago. So much had changed but Lina still felt at home, at ease in this remote but beautiful land. Lina's exhaustion began to take over her as the sun was close to rising. She needed to find a place where she could rest until Darcy was able to get there. Lina began scanning the area and found a small usable cave, perfect for her to safeguard and heal. She knew she was too exhausted to fly there but it wasn't too far away. She could reach it walking and safeguard it before the sun had risen too high, so she decided to begin walking.
What am I going to do? He's actually gone... Lina's own thoughts echoed in her head as her realization that she would never see Richie again hit her. She would never see her best friend, the man who had saved her life when she had refused to eat. He hadn't known either Darcy's nor Lina's secret but he knew they had secrets. He knew he could never know and he wasn't discouraged at being there for them one bit. He knew their unusual ways and he had no memory of Lina taking his blood but he always sustained her. He had told her that it was his duty, his honor because he loved her. She had taken those memories from him but she would never forget them.
Darcy...He's really gone...Richie! Lina had broken down into a mess of emotions she couldn't handle when she reached the cave. She couldn't even safeguard the area or use most of her powers through her intense emotions and exhaustion from the last 2 days. Darcy could feel the emotions swirling in Lina's mind, her entire body was heightened in feeling and she had no control anymore. Darcy knew she had to get to Lina, and she had to get there fast. Her best friend, her only friend, her sister was in serious danger now and if she fell asleep before safeguarding the cave she was in she could be in even more.
Darcy raced through the skies like lightning. She had to cover many more miles before she could reach her friend but she could stand the sunlight. The sunlight couldn't harm her the way it harmed Lina. Lina would be unable to even protect herself in a few hours. Darcy decided she would have to expel all her energy on getting there before worry over anything else, or they would both be in serious danger. Lina groaned in agony as she cried. She cried and moaned and spouted out wordless saying that meant nothing but pain and misery in her forgotten language.
Lina knew the sun grew higher in the sky and Darcy could only get closer. She decided she would be positive and try to control herself before she walked into the sun. Meu Amour. What is wrong my love. Why do you block me out? I can feel your emotions. You are weak and defenseless why do you do this? Olivier's voiced suddenly echoed through Lina's head and everything else seemed to stop in those few moments as she breathed a calm breath. Lina had never known the power of a life mate, and she hoped she never would. She knew no one would accept her into the Carpathian race especially her brother, the one she was never allowed to meet. She knew everything about all of her brothers and all of the clan until her father passed. Lina knew everything she could but she would never open herself to them, she knew they would only bring her death. Olivier was no different to her. He could only bring about her death and yet just his distressed voice calmed her to her core. She felt like she knew nothing anymore.
Darcy suddenly felt the emotions swirling in her partner stop and she almost fell out of the sky. Darcy had been so focused on helping her friend and getting there that she was unable to process all of the commotion going on with Lina. Darcy knew she had to act faster than she was. Nothing would stop her from getting to her friend's side as fast as she could, if not faster!
