chapter 13 the new addition to the family.

I chuckled as I watched my mate pace up and down the nursery den.

"Freespirit it's going to take time, I still have a few more days before our egg comes." I said with a smile.

"I know that Nightaxe it's just very exciting! the first night fury hatchling in generations!" My mate said with excitement.

I shook my head. "Go on a hunting patrol to calm yourself down Hiccup."

His eyes connected with my own. We haven't really used our older names for the last two years. I grinned in amusement. Finally he sighed and gave me an affectionate lick before leaving the nursery.
The other queens in the nursery laughed.

"Your mate is very interesting." Said speckletail, a dusty scaled gronkle.

I nodded. "He is something, but that's his best quality."

Duskpelt chuckled. "Of course it is Nightaxe."

I smiled at the dusk purple natter.

I couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead for our hatchling, that Oman two years ago, that made me worry that if it did come true then Hiccup could very well die. I didn't want that to happen.
A voice broke me away from my thoughts.

"How is my daughter-in-law doing." Nightcutter asked.
"Hello Valka, I'm doing good, I've never seen your son so jittery about something." I said with a laugh.

She smiled. "Well he is going to be a father, as well as that you both are having another Night fury." Valka exclaimed.

I frowned. "I know... everyone won't stop reminding me."

"I understand this is new for you Astrid, and I know it will take some time getting used to the big crowds of kin wanting to witness the child for themselves, that's why I've got my flight to make sure that when the egg is ready to hatch the hatchling can have time to be with Hiccup and yourself. Hiccup also as requested your flight to stand guard as well." Valka exclaimed again.

I noted this and knew I was going to have to thank my mate for that.

"Thank you valka, that'll be a big help." I said.

She smiled. "You're welcome my dear, you don't need a crowd, my son's stress is already more than enough for you." Valka said.

I laughed and nodded.
Valka left and I feel asleep.

(Later)

I groaned when I awoke. My muscles were sore. 'When was the last time I had walked around again?' I thought to myself. My mouth was dry so I tried to get up; unfortunately I couldn't. Curse the fact I couldn't get up.

"Here you go my love, food and water." I heard him say.

I cracked open my eye spotting some wet moss and a dead rabbit. I did my best to move. For only one egg this was a bit overboard. I smiled up at Hiccup. "Thank you Hiccup, for this and the flight." I said remembering what Valka had said.

He just smiled.
I ate all of the rabbit as well as enjoyed the cold water.

(one week later)

Hiccup could barely keep still as I rolled our egg into the water were it exploded and a small black hatchling pulled itself onto the rocky shore. Hiccup and I couldn't believe our eyes. The hatchling was female her eyes were turquoise.

"So what's her name going to be?" I asked.

"Her name is soul." Hiccup said.

"Soul, I like that name." I said.

Soul ran and cuddled with both her mother and father. I lay down on her nest and soul drank milk. Both Hiccup and I lay down and watched our child.
I love her, she is my child and I will protect her.
